    Hey I’m Justin with, and I’m checking out the Mustang GT California special spoiler fitting all 2010 and newer Mustangs, available either unpainted or pre painted. This spoiler is identical to the pedestal style spoiler found on the 2011 California special, this is a special edition Mustang that originated back in the 60’s, then later resurfaced in 07 for a few years, and then later in 2011. These limited run cars came with some pretty trick styling one of which included this spoiler. As for the spoiler itself, you can see why it gets that pedestal name, as opposed to a GTR or GT500 spoiler which mounts flush to the trunk lid, the California special is raised like a pedestal, thanks to the 4 legs or risers that give it its own unique look. Build wise we are looking at a full ABS plastic construction, which is going to be equal parts lightweight and durable. As I mentioned earlier, there are a couple of different options when it comes to picking the spoiler up, there is an unpainted option which I have here, obviously you’ll need to have this thing prepped and painted before installing on your ride, or on the other hand, you can spring for a pre painted color matched option for a few bucks more, which we have install on our 2011 GT behind me. The color matched option is sprayed right here at AmericanMuscle headquarters, using the same base and clear coat Ford uses in their factories, so basically you can expect a perfect color match for your ride. While the cover does install using the 4 existing holes left by your factory spoiler, you will need to drill 4 additional holes to get the California special bolted up. If this isn’t something you feel comfortable doing, then your local body shop should be willing to help you out, however if you are going to tackle it, take your time, use the included alignment strip, and you should be able to knock everything out in about 2 hours. So if you’re a big fan of the California special appearance package, and you like the looks of a more pronounced pedestal spoiler, then this spoiler option would make a great choice for your ride.

    color Is pre painted? I need in White


    • Unfortunately, this spoiler is shipped unpainted and will arrive black. I'm sure a local shop will be able to paint match this wing for you though! Hope this helps!

    S197 As extreme and irrational as it may sound is there anyway this wing would fit on yhe S197 stang? I love the style of this one and none of the S197 styles look great in my opinion.


    • 2005 through 2013 are all S197 5th gen mustangs. This wing is vehicle specific to th 10-13 model years as the trunk is a different design. If you are referring to a 2005-09 model you could probably mount it, but its not designed for that body style or trunk design. You would be better off looking for a California special spoiler for those years.

    Is there a chance to get this painted ? Bodyshops here at the beach have a devil of a time matching this color and you folks did a great job on the 1/4 louvers, can I get it painted and how much more would it cost?

      The GT/CS spoiler looks great. With the help of my bro-in law it took about 3 hours to install. My Mustang didn't have a factory spoiler on it. We had to drill all 8 holes for the fitment. I wish that the instructions would have covered this scenario. It wasn't difficult to do it just took extra time to measure and align the spoiler.

      the California spoiler looks amazing and the paint was done excellent. I work at a ford dealer and when I install spoilers they come with template so you know where to drill the holes. I think that would have been a real time saver when installing this spoiler. Send a template with this spoiler!!

      Be different

      Product is well built. Mine came unpainted(would recommed painted if you have the cash) You will still need to drill a few holes (2013 stang)So remove the pockets you just added like I did put to side a paper or blanket in trunk makes clean up easy.Just set on trunk for approx mount area then remove put masking tape on trunk lid where the holes need to go.Place spoiler on the masking tape pencil the area(measure twice for proper location) remove spoiler take gaskets to mark where the holes need to be really check they hole making so they are correct.Start with a small drill to act as the punch center then drill. You will need 4 bolt a little longer when you get ready to install because of the trunk re-enforcement bars (remember metric) when you install you could use a litle locktite remember not to over tighten as to not break out the nuts from spoiler have fun and enjoy oh don't forget to put back your trunk rug and pockets

      Going back to Cali

      This spoiler is SWEET!!! Install was smooth, just take your time. When removing your old spoiler, make sure you clean the dirt from the crevices under the factory spoiler as dirt can be trapped in there and scratch your paint. Take your time, double check your marks before you drill and when bolting on the new spoiler be careful not to drop the bolts in the holes! If you're nervous about installing this yourself, most body shops will charge about $100 to install. it may be worth it to you to have professionals install this.

      Looks good but took some engineering on my part...

      The CS wing looked great out of the box with the exception of a few minor scratches on the trailing edge. There was no damage to the bubble wrap so that indicates it got by quality. While I feel that is worth merntion, it wasn't worth returning. It was quickly cured with a Sharpie of similar color. Removing the factory lip spoiler and tape took longer than I anticipated. After marking the hole locations as shown in the instructions, I drilled 1/4" holes as specified. As it turns out, 3/8" holes worked better because trying to line up eight holes is no easy task. The kit came with 8 screws of the same length. Four proved to be too short due to the holes lining up on the trunk lid stiffeners. I cured this by drilling larger holes the same diameter as the factory holes from the inside. I bought a set of fender washers which turned out to be perfect. Two hours later with help from my son I was done and the wing looks great. A full size alignment/drill template would be a great addition to the installation kit at very little cost to American Muscle.

      Review from Rear GT/CS Style (California Special) Spoiler - Unpainted (10-14 All)

      things you will deal with to install

      First out of the box there were no installation instructions. The fit between the bottom of the wing and the trunk deck was not the very accurate. the two parts had gaps up to about .080 thousandths. (been a machinist for 30 years so I measured the gaps between the two parts.) The foam pads included took up the gaps but can be seen when finished. The bottom of 2 of the pedestals had drops of paint sticking up making the fit worse. I used a sharp knife to cut the top of the bumps off and improve the fit a bit. Next the 6 mm x 1 bolts did not thread into the holes in the bottom of the wing. I had to use a tap to clean out the paint and other materials left over from painting. be careful not to cross thread the tap in the holes. The method used to locate the holes on the trunk worked very well. That was nice. very easy to stick onto the bottom of the wing pedestals, and then tape them down to the trunk once the wing was aligned on the trunk .Be careful when lifting the wing not to pull off the strips. Before I purchased I asked if I would need to drill the inside sheet metal reinforcing sheet so I could install bolts from the inside. I was told no. Actually 4 of the holes needed to be drilled through both skins, and then the inside skin had to be enlarged so the bolt and washer would go through and tighten up on the back of the outside sheet metal skin. This was not fun. The only way I could figure out how to do this was to use a stepped sheet metal drill bit. The problem was the two skins were too close together to go on in with the bit without hitting the outside sheet. The two sheets on the outside holes are only about 5/8 apart. So as I drilled from size to size I cut off the end of the bit with a cut off wheel. This way I could move from step to step with out drilling into the outside sheet metal. It ruined the bit but I got the holes enlarged. I used some auto body sealer puddy around the bolt threads next to the bolt heads to seal the trunk. ( no sealer was included with the wing.To keep the screws from falling off getting them through the inside skin of the trunk deck I put a small amount of puddy in the Philips pocket in the bolt and the screw driver stuck to the bolt and it was easy to get the bolt started. The wing looks good on the car but the foam strips do show up. Instructions would have been good. It would have helped overcome the problems with the inside sheet metal. I would recommend this product but it isn't just drilling the holes and slapping it on. I kept wondering how the manufacturer dealt with enlarging the holes in the inside sheet when installing the wing. respectfully Dale

      Looks great

      Super easy to install. 50 minutes and I was done. Unibit really helps. My brother dropped a bolt so now I hear it rolling around ever time I open the trunk. Don’t drop the bolts! Excellent paint job. GET IT!

      Great Product!

      This spoiler is awesome! had it painted at a local body shop to match my car. It adds sick styling the the rear end of your stang! The install took some time but it was worth it! Just a side note for all you guys out there that are thinking of installing it yourself, this spoiler does not just use the holes from your factory spoiler(if you had one) you have to drill more holes to install properly! So if you're not comfortable drilling into your trunk you may want to consider having a shop install it! But over all great quality product! The body shop I had paint it said it was one of the best spoilers they've ever painted! They said they usually have to sand the other spoilers they get but this one came smooth with no imperfections and ready to paint!
