Review & Installation Video

Hey I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I’m checking out the Raxiom 2010 style smoked headlights, fitting all 05-09 Mustangs. These lights are the creation of industry leader Raxiom, who continues to produce a wide variety of aftermarket lighting for your Mustang, all backed by a 2 year warranty. The lights were designed to give your S197 the look of the very popular 2010-2012 style headlights, with some additional features to crank up the styling a little bit. For starters, as you can see these headlights feature a black housing, with a dark smoked lens, making for a very sinister look, in addition these headlights also feature LED halo accent lighting, which further increases the modern styling. Finally, these headlights convert the dated factory reflector style headlights to a more contemporary projector style. Not only does this look much better, but it’s also going to improve the total light output thanks to that bright focused beam of light. Installing the Raxioms onto your S197 will require the removal of the front bumper, along with some minor wiring for those halo accents, while it’s nothing more than a few bolts and those quick splice connectors, figure about an hour’s time to get everything installed. So if you’re a fan of the 2010 style lights and you dig all the extra features these lights are equipped with, then you have to check out Raxiom’s smoked 2010 style headlights for your S197, right here at AmericanMuscle.com

Sleek 2010 Styling. Inspired by the redesigned 2010 Ford Mustang these Smoked Headlights feature a LED Halo accent that encircles a projector style light to add sleek modern styling to your the 2005 to 2009 S197 Mustang.

I live in Canada and wondering about Daytime Running Lights Just wondering how this is handled with these lights? Do the Halos turn on for the day time and the projectors turn on for the night?

yyuksel

  • Unfortunately I have found that the halos are on regardless of the DRL or fully switched on lights. It's not the halos that are the issue but the H9 headlight bulb in the projector - they're on all the time which diminishes the halos effect. I'm kinda bummed and wish there was a way to disable the DRL on my car here in Canada! Safety, bah!

So how good is the lighting? I read a few reviews that are making me refrain from squeezing the trigger on these...

JCleezy

  • I can't comment on these, but I have smoked ones on my 2003. I never was happy with night driving and mine made it tough to see no matter what bulbs I used. My dilema was that they looked cool so I didn't want to replace them. After some looking into, I got Xenon kit with ballasts. Now I have both the look I wanted and bright lighting. It was almost a plug and play kit. I just had to mount the ballasts. (If you try this, get the anti-flicker.)

Which raxiom bulb works? AM has a ton of raxiom bulbs on the website. I was wondering which would work for these headlights and which one is best.

tylerdinbo

  • These headlights require an H9 series bulbs. The Raxiom H9 bulbs would be very bright and would work great! Check out the link below!

I purchased these headlights for my '06 GT and love the way they look, but the halos are very dim. I haven't been able to find a solution while scouring the forums and google. I have the halos wired to the parking/marker lights (as I have done in the past with other halo headlights) and they operate as they should, just very dim. Any ideas?

WindveilBlues

  • Since the Raxiom 2010 Style Smoked Headlights have a smoked lens, they are definitely going to be dimmer than they should be. Unfortunately there is no way to make them brighter as they are hardwired into the light fixtures.

Love the look of these lights on my 2009 V6! They give it a stealthy look and look great! Had trouble with one headlight and Raxiom sent out a new pair very fast and it fixed the problem.

    Great upgrade

I installed this as a replacement for the bigger Halo light. The other halo offered by AM which is not Raxiom looks really good as a daytime runner but Horrible as a functional light. These on the other hand are wayyyyy better...they still are not as bright as the stock light but still very good and the look is OUTSTANDING

    Cant complain, awesome service

The product looks great! Install was pretty straight foward, watched the video with my 8yr. son. I let him help so we went slow but, still installed it in 3 3/4 hrs. I have to agree with other reviews about lighting not any better than stock! That needs to be improved. I have to give american muscle props for their service. I had my lights for about 5mo.when the light bulb went out, which is no big deal, but unfortunately the housing for the bulb was charred so I couldn't replace the bulb. I called AM and they immediately sent me a new pair of headlights so I could use them for replacement parts. I just used the bulb housing that I needed and shipped the charred one back w/ the headlights they sent at no cost to me. I have purchased a lot of items w/ AM and for the most part I haven't had any problems w/ their items. The 2 times I hav had an issue, they have taken care of it quickly and to my satisfaction.

SUPER easy to install and adjust (compared to Halo Projector LED Headlights). Lights look great and I prefer them to the Projectors. Took about 1 relaxed hr to install and adjust.

    Great look, horrible visibility

First off, these lights look great. Installation isn't bad at all, and they really change the look of any mustang. But, they have one major flaw: your ability to see at night with them installed. Dont let these other reviews kid you, these lights are WAY too dim to be safe. The only way that I could see this product being functional is pair with some sort of hid kit, which puts your end price in the the 3 to 400's.

    CAUTION!!!!

I purchased these headlights and I gotta say I am highly disappointed. The lamps do look cool and the LED halo looks awesome however the bulbs are wimpy. The visibility is terrible limited to about 7 feet ahead of your stang. I purchased these lamps as a "ready to go" option to upgrading my Pony but all I got was a trip to my not so local performance shop to purchase bulbs that in my opinion, should have been included in this package. If you dont have a problem with going out and buying bulbs after you just dropped $250 for these lamps then its a great buy...for you.

    Great appearance cheap bulbs

I absolutely love these head lights and constantly get compliments on them. My only gripe is the bulbs that come with them aren't very bright at all. I suggest upgrading to HID's as I did, it makes such a difference. The install was fairly simple, although you have to completely remove the front bumper to gain access to the mount bolts. But aside from the cheap bulbs that comes with it, it is a great product made with quality and style.

Gave my 07 California Special a facelift.

I highly recommend these headlights! They look quality made. As soon as I had them installed on my car It was as If I was looking at a newer car. The lighting could be a little brighter, but I was still able to see. I think they have to be just a little adjusted that's all. It took me a little less than an hour to install on the count of that I already knew where all the parts I had to loosen were. If not it could take you about an hour to an hour and a half.

    Nice Lights

I recently bought these lights to change up the front look of my mustang. installation was a breeze and im very happy with the overall appearance. The halo and accent light look really cool. But my cons for these lights are generally the same as these other reviews. First, the little quick splice connectors that come with the lights are garbage. They don't hold a strong connection as I could see the halo lights flicker on and off by simply touching the connectors. I just spliced the wires into the factory park light wires and soldered them and it works just fine. Next is the visibility. The bulbs supplied just aren't bright enough to shine through the smoked lens. If you have a GT or v6 with fog lights its not terrible since you can still use those. Although I highly recommend upgrading to an HID kit which leads to my last con. If you're gonna upgrade to HID's there's some things to look out for. Somewhere I saw that people were putting H13 bulbs in these lights. THEY DO NOT FIT. these headlights are designed to fit an H9 bulb. Me being dumb, I didn't bother to check the bulb before I bought a kit and ended up buying an H13 kit and when i was installing them i kept trying to figure out why they werent fitting and accidentally broke one of the HID bulbs so now Im out money and have to go buy an H9 kit. Still happy with my purchase and they make the front of my mustang alot cooler!

    Sharp/Clean Look

I've had these for almost 2yrs and I love these smoked headlights! The install is very short and easy. It looks great on blacked out Mustangs. The only downside for me is that after awhile my halogen bulbs would repeatedly burn out, so I replaced the wiring harness with (h9) heavy duty ones, added dielectric grease, and taped the surrounding rubber boot of the headlight so there wouldn't be condensation buildup (just for precaution), no problems since. Also just an FYI, the side marker light on the headlight isn't amber, it's white. Overall, I love the style of these projector headlights!

    installing HID

i do not recommend using the quick splice connects that raxiom supply with this kit. I just cut them off and used a simply butt splice. The bulbs that come with these headlights, suck.. so I got a high quality HID kit and installed very easily into these headlights. i only got a 35 watt kit due to rumors of melting.. but i can see much better with them now.
