Review & Install Video

Hey, I'm Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I'm taking a closer look at a couple of upper and lower pony-delete billet grille options, fitting all 2010-2012 V6 Mustangs. If you're looking to ditch that factory running-pony emblem, or you just want to go full-on retro, then these billet grille options are without a doubt the way to go. As you can see, they've totally transformed the look of our 2011 V6 behind me. As for construction, both grilles are made from 100% billet aluminum, and are available in your choice of either a black option, or a polished option. Now, the nice thing to point out is that both grilles are overlays, so you'll simply need to remove your factory running-pony emblem from your upper grille first, before getting started with the install. After you get that out of the way, getting each grille installed should only take you about 30 minutes apiece. Of course you always have the option of purchasing either the upper or the lower grille by itself, but if you purchase both grilles at the same time, you'll not only achieve a more dramatic look, but you'll also save yourself a few bucks in the process. So if you're searching for ways to change up the look of your V6 and to dig a little bit of that retro billet styling, then you'll definitely want to check out a set of these grilles, right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Aggressive Thirteen Bar Grille. Add an aggressive edge to your Mustang with a 13 bar Horizontal Billet Grille Overlay. Featuring precision cut openings, this one piece Upper Grille eliminates that huge pony grille emblem. This Mustang upper grille is an overlay that attaches over the stock upper grille. Some minimal trimming of the corral surround is required.

Matching Lower Grille. The optional 8 bar Lower Billet Grille is a perfect match to the upper to complete the appearance of your Mustang. The Lower Grille is an overlay that attaches over the stock lower grille.

Quality Construction. Designed with the original OEM CAD data from Ford to ensure a perfect fit, both the Upper and Lower Grilles are constructed from strong lightweight billet aluminum that is completed in a durable semi-gloss black powdercoated finish for an aggressive appearance and corrosion resistance.

Application. These Modern Billet Black Pony Delete Billet Grilles are designed to fit the 2010-2012 V6 Mustang, excluding Pony Package. The Upper and Lower Grilles are available separately or together as a Combo Kit. Please select from the ordering options above.

Need grill to replace Stock one /I have pony package I just want a plain black grill.I want to remove the one i have.

  • This grill will not fit the pony package grill, you would need to install a stock grill. Then cut out the pony mount. Then install tthis grill. You could sell the pony package grill to recover some of the cost.

can i replace my stock grille with this? I got in a minor collision & am replacing my hood & grille. The upper grille was bent up a little bit right above the bumper, so i assume its going to have to come off. Will this grille still fit there when i take it off or will i have to buy a new factory grille first?

ThunderUp

  • Unfortunately, this billet grille is an overlay and not a direct replacement. You will need a new factory grille to attach this to for a complete installation! Hope this helps and good luck with your rebuild!

    Great Grilles Ghetto Style! :)

I've had these grilles on my car now since the weekend i bought it. they look great and the price is phenomenal. i didn't want the stck grille behind the billet grille so i decided to as my friends say, ghetto it. i removed the stock grille (upper) completely. just pop all the clips around with a flat head and tug. definitely easier with two people and be careful not to scratch the bumper. Then i lined up the grille and zip tied it through the same clip holes on the bumper. there is no play and you can't even see them. it looks great. the lower grille i installed as they recommended and you can't even see the stock one behind it. Great products!

    Aggresive

Installing this grills were very simple. Need to cut out the pony on the factory grille to install properly which was not hard at all. I recommend buying screws with a smaller head because the ones they provide for the top grille will scar up the paint. Easy to touch up though. Makes your car look more aggressive.

Excellent Grille, Not so great instructions...

So you might see my Silver 2011 Mustang on the pictures above if American Muscle approves them. This Upper/Lower Grille set does work on the 2011 Mustang. I did not install the Grille myself, I had the dealership do it for a nominal fee, but guarantees if they mess it up, they fix it also... The dealership says the instructions on the website for installation is not accurate... I have to agree after reading others reviews. You actually have to cut the original factory grill to remove the large Pony emblem and then drill holes into the old to secure the new billet. So the more you cut, the better, otherwise you'll see honeycomb in the back. Myself and the dealer agreed to only cut the potion of the original honeycomb that allowed air to flow though, we left the portion of the honeycomb that doesn't allow air to flow. This allowed them to drill into the original leftover honeycomb to secure the billet. The lower honeycomb was not removed at all, they just drilled right into it to secure the lower billet. Everything looks AWESOME AND AGGRESSIVE!!!

    Great product cheap hardware

Love this grill. I have a grey/silver 2010 v6 with black louvers and custom black stripes. This grill was the icing on the cake to this 2 tone machine. Only things don't like is that the screws do rust. I have had it on for a week and rechecked the fitting and there is already rust on a few of the screws. Also the screws are two long and hit the grill housing when trying to sap the clips into place. But nothing a hacksaw won't take care of. IF YOU HAVE THE PONY PACKAGE LIKE I DO. BUY THIS GRILL, TAKE OFF PONY PACKAGE GRILL, STORE IT, BUY A BASE GRILL ON EBAY. I GOT MINE FOR 35 BUCKS BRAND NEW. FORD WANTED SOMTHING LIKE 300! Screwwwwww that. All n all great product highly Recommend for any mustang color.

Just got it in and put it on, easy to install for the most part, cut out a section of the original grille to maximize airflow, but it turned out looking great. its sturdy, shiney, and gives my mustang a much more agressive look. i love this grille.

Great look, but not a short install..

First off, this package looks great on my stang, it really gives it that aggressive look I was wanting. But the installation posed a couple of challenging hurdles to overcome. Luckily, I had full access to a mechanics shop, where I found it necessary to use an assortment of tools to get the job done properly. I removed the stock pony from the grille using a small cutting wheel and grinder. Took my time, but looks great. My car is ingot silver, so after the installation was complete, I realized that the old pony showed through the new grille due to my car's color. But once I figured out a way to cover that panel up with something black, you would never know it was there. Great looking product none the less!

    Top Grille needs better hardware

I bought the upper/ lower combo which arrived very fast, thanks American Muscle. The grille is easy to install, bascially just unsnap the old grille and drill a few holes for the new one. My only complaint about this product is the screws for the upper grille, the heads on them are too big and they will damage the bars if you use them. I had to touch up my grill afterwards because screw does gouge it if you use them. The lower grille has the correct screws so that one installs very smoothly. So save yourself some trouble and check the screws before you start and replace them if necessary. The new grill does look great so it's well worth the minor hassle with the screws.

NOT as easy for the 2011

The grill does fit on the 2011 but you have to modify the original one to fit on there. It looks great though!!!! O and if your gonna put the emblem on there make sure you put it on Before you lay the billet grille on :(

Great grilles! Really made an impact on my 'stang

I ordered the grille combo for my '12 PP stang and installed both in about an hour. I ended up cutting the whole middle section of the stock upper grille out instead of just the pony. I think it looks much better and now there's less honeycomb to see underneath the billet. Lower grille installed right over the stock one as suggested and still looks awesome. Great bang for the buck! Really toughened up my front end. Thanks AM!

Review from Modern Billet Black Billet Grille - Lower (10-12 V6)

    Nice looking grill!

I bought the upper and lower grills package and am very happy with the end result. The installation took longer than I expected at about 3 hours, but it was well worth it. To echo what other reviewers have said, it is necessary to cut the Pony out of the original grill (I used a rotozip and it worked pretty well). Don't stress too much trying to make the cut look neat and clean (as I did) because you really won't notice it once you put the new overlay on. I was also disappointed in the quality of the screws that were sent with the grill, they rusted very quickly. I ended up just painting the heads so as not to have to undo everything. Again though, these grills are great looking additions to the car, and I have no regrets whatsoever with the purchase.

Review from Modern Billet Black Billet Grille - Lower (10-12 V6)

    Excellent grille

So I bought this with the upper grille. It's a great grille overall; it holds up pretty strong and looks mean on my Kona Blue '12. The reason it took me a few hours was because I have the pony package which means you can't only lay the upper grille over the original. What I ended up doing was taking a dremel and cutting off 90% of the middle on the original grille. Attached the new one to the old frame and it was good to go! This way, you also don't have to look at the original under the new one any more, and you get improved airflow! The only thing I'm not super hyped about is the fact that I can't use my engine heater any more as the plug originally fit out the honeycomb grille perfectly. I might try to find a way to get it working again as the snow is starting to hit haha

Review from Modern Billet Black Pony Delete Billet Grille - Combo (10-12 V6)

I had a real tough time. V6- you will have to cut out the pony!!

I really struggled with this upper and lower grille setup. I have the v6, so I was not thrilled to find out that the pony needs to be cut out of the existing grille. I would love to see a video on how simple and easy that is. My lower grille didn't come with screws, but it didn't matter since the upper screws were corroded and rusted out. The screws that come with these grilles do not allow you to put the grille back into the bumper. They extend too far and you won't be able to set the clips back in place. I had to remove everything again and cut the screws (that came with the grille!!) I also had to touch up the are of the grille where I had to drill through to install the screw, as it is very difficult to not scratch the finish. Overall, if I knew I would have to hack up existing parts on my car to make this work, and deal with a laughable amount of issues while installing, I probably would not have done it.

    Easy installation

The installation was quick and easy. the grill bars were bent a little and had to be straightened. They changed the look of my car completely. Going from honeycomb to billet bars made a huge difference and looks great. For the price, they had the most impact on changing the looks of my car!

Love this grille! Take your time and do it right!

None of the videos I found addressed what to use to cut the pony out which is why I am writing this review. I used a jig saw which cut the plastic easily but, was very hard to get a nice straight cut. I removed almost all the honeycomb in the surround center so it was one big elongated rectangle. This makes it so you don't see any honeycomb behind it and the results are worth the effort. My car is Sterling Grey so I did not paint over the area behind the pony. A small circular saw or a dremel would have gotten a cleaner cut but, you don't need to have it super clean cut either. With the honeycomb removed, the grille looks OEM and not like a bolt over. I did not modify the lower grill and in certain light, you can still see the honeycomb but you really have to be looking for it. Overall, this is a great upgrade I recommend if you want an aggressive, custom look!

    Easy instalation

The instalation went quick and easy after I figured out that you did not have to take out the old grille. The ad and the instructions should have just said "mounts over existing grille" also ad should tell you you have to cut the pony emblem out. It looks great, installed both in about two hours.

    Grille

Grille is very nice, very sturdy and gives a nice clean look. Changes a v6 to something more. Easy to install, only thing i had to do was when removing the pony emblem there was a metal sheet behind that was the color of my exterior (gold) that you could see. so i had to paint that black. but now it looks great!
