Professional Products 75mm Satin Throttle Body Installation Guide (96-04 4.6L 2V)

AmericanMuscle Installation Garage

The below installation instructions work for the following product:
  • Professional Products 75mm Satin Throttle Body (96-04 4.6L 2V)
  • smallimage
Here at American Muscle, we're all about DIY (do it yourself). Of course, there's nothing wrong with seeking out a little bit of tech help prior to taking on an installation on your own. Our Mustang installation guides will provide valuable instructions and hopefully answer any how-to questions that you may have along the way.

Please read through the instructions carefully before starting this project.  Take the time to get all the materials together as well as all the safety equipment.

    Tools needed:

    • Flat Head Screwdriver
    • Philips Head Screwdriver
    • Socket Set (preferably metric, but English will work too)
    • Either an impact driver, cut-off wheel (or other grinding tool), or a new Throttle Position Sensor

    Removal:

    1. The first step in installing the throttle body is removal of the air intake tube from the throttle body itself.

    2. Remove the hose clamp around the intake tube to the mass air flow sensor.

    3. Remove the hose clamp around the throttle body.

    4. Remove the other two hoses that are connected to the side of the air intake tube.

    6. Once the air intake tube is removed you’ll want to disconnect the 4 connections that are attached to the throttle body.

    8. Throttle Body Spring – metal spring (top, left of picture)

    9. Throttle Body Cable – metal cable (middle, left of picture)

    10. Throttle Position Sensor – electrical plug connection (right of picture)

The four bolts that hold the throttle body to the plenum will be the next to come off.

    12. The Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) will need to be transferred to the new throttle body, the screws holding the TPS to the throttle body are attached with a lock-tite type adhesive and the only way to get them off will be with an impact driver. The other options are to buy a new TPS or to grind the head off of the screws to free the TPS, I just opted to buy a new TPS to make the install quicker.

    13. The throttle body comes with the hardware required to install the new throttle position sensor (TPS) so if you couldn’t disconnect the TPS without destroying the screws it isn’t a big deal. After installing the new throttle position sensor I attached the new throttle body to the plenum.

    14. The plenum doesn’t need to be removed from the intake manifold, I bought the plenum and throttle body together so my pictures might look a little different.

    15. Once the throttle body is reinstalled to the plenum you can reconnect the 4 connections (the cruise control cable, throttle body spring, throttle body cable and the throttle position sensor) that were removed previously.

    17. The cruise control cable connects pretty easy, you just snap the plastic end of the connection to the tab provided on the new throttle body.

    18. The throttle body spring was the easiest of the three connections on that side of the throttle body, you simply connect the spring onto the throttle body then reconnect to the other end.

    19. The throttle body cable doesn’t fit easily into the opening provided, I don’t know if the hole that was machined wasn’t to the best tolerance or what but you might have to force the metal head of the cable into the hole in the throttle body.

    20. The throttle position sensor wiring harness just plugs back into the throttle position sensor.

    21. Now that does it for the throttle body installation, now all you have to do is reconnect the air intake tube to the throttle body and to the mass air flow sensor and you’re ready to go.

    22. I reconnected the tube to the new throttle body before connecting to the mass air flow sensor.Simply slide the tube back onto the throttle body and tighten the hose clamp back down until snug.

    23. Reconnect the intake tube to the mass air flow sensor then reconnect the hoses that are attached to the side of the intake tube.

    24. Finally, make sure all of your connections are tight and everything is reconnected to the throttle body and you are done.

    25. Go enjoy the extra 10 horsepower you just bolted on!
