Prop Rod? Are you still using that old style factory prop rod that Ford installed in your S197 Mustang? Well then join the new millennium with a set of Modern Muscle Design Hood Struts from AmericanMuscle for clean modern looks and convenience.

Style And Strength. Designed to get rid of that old ugly prop rod, this set of two powerful yet sleek MMD gas struts not only makes opening your Pony's hood much easier, but also holds it securely in place. Made from lightweight steel and aluminum, they feature a carbon fiber appearance to give your engine bay race inspired styling.

No Drilling Required. The stamped steel brackets included in this MMD kit are designed to bolt into the existing mounting holes in the hood so there is no drilling required for installation. Struts can be installed on factory hoods as well as aftermarket hoods that use the factory bolt location. If your aftermarket hood is lighter than the factory hood, use caution when opening the hood due to the power of the strut.

Application. This Modern Muscle Design Carbon Fiber Hood Strut Kit is specifically designed for use on the 2005 to 2014 Ford Mustangs, including the V6, GT, Bullitt, BOSS and Shelby GT500 models. The Kit includes two gas powered struts, mounting brackets, and all the required mounting hardware.

Quick mod that makes all the difference.

These worked just as advertised, bolt right on the the car and they lift the hood without question. No need to try and realign the hood just follow the instructions and it should shut perfectly.

Hood struts for Shelby ? Hi - I have a '08 Shelby Super Snake with the fiberglass hood provided at Shelby. Will these struts work flawlessly with this hood also and require no drilling ? They will go great with my carbon fiber trim parts from Shelby if so ! thanks - Cam

  • The MMD Bolt On Hood Strut Kit - Carbon Fiber is designed to fit all 05-14 Mustangs with the stock hood. As long as you still have the factory hood on the car, you should not have any issues with these Hood Struts. The installation of these Struts do not require any drilling. It is a fairly easy install. If you follow the link below, it will take you to a detailed installation guide. http://1.cdn.lib.americanmuscle.com/files/2015-install-guide-images/41282-100336-manu/P3002.pdf

Great Product, looks good and fuctions well; Instruction left out.

You will like the Product, once installed and I hope to save you a headache or two in the installation process. The bolt-on hardware goes in place nicely following the installation flier. When you attempt to, just pop on the struts, they don't (at least on my product). You can use lubricant, use a rubber mallet and still they just won't "pop" on. Here is what MMD left out and the manufacturer recommends. Each strut has two retaining springs, one each end. Take them out by using you fingernail to ply them open and then slide out all these retainers (They are small, don't lose them). Now the struts will just pop into place easily. Once installed, replace the retainer clips by sliding them into their original holes and rotating back over the shaft. They are small and it's tricky to handle with struts in place, but it works. Viola! You're done. Now, how to avoid stupid . . . take it from an expert. Before removing the fender and hood bolts in the first steps, cover the recesses of your engine compartment with a cloth leaving no place for a dropped bolt to fall. I did not, dropped a hood bold and it went between the fender and the battery and came to rest below the battery box. Yep, I had to remove the battery and the battery box to get it adding about an hour and a half of unnecessary work. Now that was stupid, indeed and the air was blue for awhile! Don't repeat my error.

    It's all in the details

It's 2014, these should be OEM! The carbon is nice, not cheap or low quality. Popping open the hood is quick and the prop isn't in your way if you want to top off your fluids or show off the rest of your American Muscle upgrades. A little pricey for hood struts, but how many people can say they have CF hood struts!

    Must do mod

Why I waited so long to convert over to hood struts from the old prop rod is a mystery. Time? Money? Difficulty? Not sure. I pulled the trigger on the carbon fiber struts, and the finish is top notch. The install makes for a great father son project as it is very simple. They lift my Trucarbon hood without any issues and it lines up perfectly. I would put this on your short list of upgrades.

Why did I wait so long

Great product really cleans up under the hood by eliminating the ridiculous hood prop rod. Why Ford thinks its ok to continue to put this on a 30k-40k car is unbelievable. Easy install and it looks great. Don't wait pull the trigger on these today.

    Looks Good

The carbon fiber prop rods definitely do look good, especially with a black mustang. They were hard to install with one person only though. Lining up the hood with all 3 holes the bolts had to fit in was definitely not fun. Neat installation, but I wish it was cheaper.

    Tomz dream

This is for me one of those must have mods! I have a bad left shoulder and the stick that Ford gives you to prop the hood open just didn't work for me. So now, I can open the hood with ease and style. I paid a little more and got the carbon hinges and believe me people do notice the carbon. This mod was priceless for me but also looks sharp. The hood opens with no effort. Thanks again Am.

Great upgrade from stock hood prop

I really like being able to pop open the hood and have it stay up on its own. It also makes closing the hood feel less like I'm slamming it down since the shocks make it lower a lot slower. My only issue is that the carbon fiber cover or tube on the strut broke free so its not connected anymore. This made me realize its probably just glued onto the strut kind of cheaply. Almost wish I just went for the plain black struts. Aside from the appearance flaw, I love the struts and what they do to clean up the engine bay.
