Built like a tank, the best.
This aluminum pan is big. 15.8125" long x 11" wide x 5.75" high. The seal that runs around the top is .5625" thick. Weighs 10.6 lbs....empty. Not having a dipstick is upsetting..esp with a blower! You could easily be down 1-2 qt's..and never know. My 2010 GT auto has almost 29K miles, so decided to solve several issues at once. I added a catch can to the 5r55, 5 speed automatic, so it no longer loses ATF when in blower mode. This new, deeper pan holds an EXTRA 4 qts! Stock, the 5r55 holds 11.3 qts. With the new pan, it's now 15.3 qts..which is a 35.4% increase in ATF. I also bought 16 x qts of Royal Purple MAX ATF. #AM part # 45001# This RP ATF is 100% synthetic, and will take high heat too..vs the burnt ATF that is in there now. With a much bigger fluid capacity, the torque converter will lock up sooner, and shifts will be smoother.
I took careful measurements with a straight edge below my oem exhaust..and the new pan will NOT hang too low. The oem exhaust is still the lowest thing, plus suspension parts.
There is 13 ribs running the length of the pan. Each rib is .187" wide...and also .187" tall. There is .5" between ribs #inside to inside#. Now Aluminum conducts heat aprx 4-5 times better than steel. All those ribs increase the total surface area by a huge amount vs oem. Since it hangs aprx 1.7" lower than the oem pan, it's more into the airstream too. The pan is very thick..and also heavily re-enforced where both the drain plug is..and also the dipstick. The dipstick is .75" OD. It come out next to the battery. The top of the dipstick uses a triple layer rubber seal, with a 90 deg snap down lock to it. Push the stick all the way down, then flip the lever 90 deg, and it's now locked down solid, doesn't budge ! The dipstick appears to be anodized steel, and will be very easy to top up ATF, if required. It also has a support bracket welded to it...that uses existing bolts on the car. #no holes to drill#
I also bought the dual aeroforce interceptor gauges
#AM # 53903#..which will be mounted in the dual A pillar pod #AM #81010# . The digital gauges will be installed this weekend. I will run a series of extensive tests, since the aeroforce gauges will measure a number of parameters on the 5r55 automatic... like transmission TEMP, slip, TQ converter lockup status,TQ delivered to transmission, etc, etc.
I want to establish what the typ transmission temps are, under normal driving condx #factoring in ambient temp outside#..and also when in blower mode, eng rpm, gear, etc .
After that is all done, THEN in goes the new deeper Performance automatic transmission pan..+ dipstick.
Then I will repeat all the various tests...and compare the 2 results. I'd buy it just for the dipstick alone. I will use some RTV, or silicone rubber cement or similar, where the dipstick exits the side of the pan, just for piece of mind. It uses the standard flared fitting, with lockdown nut. BTW, performance automatic now also makes a deep pan for the 2011-2013 automatics !
Stay tuned for an update to this note.
