Hey guys, Stephanie with AmericanMuscle.com, here with a Mishimoto Performance Transmission Cooler for all 1979 and up Mustangs. A transmission cooler offers a big benefit to anyone that's done some performance mods for more power output and/or has a high stall converter. This cooler from Mishimoto is a universal application, so it'll work for any Mustang with a Mishimoto aluminum rad. When do you need a trans cooler? Well, it's safe to say that you can always just add a trans cooler. It's never gonna hurt anything as long as it's installed properly, so it won't be a source of leaks or headaches. You'll really start to need a trans cooler for your Mustang once you have a higher output of horsepower and torque. Even if you have a stock converter still, the higher output from the motor will cause a stock converter to stall higher. The higher stall will heat the fluid more than normal and cause high trans fluid temps. You're also gonna want to look into a trans cooler if you've got a high stall converter, for the same reason that I just mentioned. A higher stall means there's gonna be increased fluid forces and pressure within the torque converter, which is how the fluid temps rise. There are many benefits to keeping lower trans fluid operating temps. Cooler temps are better for the life of the transmission and to keep the balance of durability, consistency, and performance from the trans. But just like too hot is bad, so is too cool. You don't want the trans temps to be too cool either. You run into the same problems there that you do when the fluid is too hot. Consistency and lubrication. And too hot leads to fluid breakdown, and then trans failure. This trans cooler is the basic cooler design. There's no need to reinvent the wheel. It's also lightweight and has a three-eighths push-on fitting which makes for an easy install. But it'll also make it a proper sized fitting so you won't have leaking issues. It has a tube and fin design, and it has universal mounting, so you can use it for any application. As far as price, you're looking at spending under $100 for this cooler. Mishimoto does also have a heavy duty trans cooler that comes with an electric fan, if you think you need something more along those lines. And that's gonna cost about $60 more. So, I wouldn't call the install here difficult. The cooler is going to come with some items to help you mount this, like some ties, connectors, foam pads, and O-ring clamps, but you can always fob [SP] up your own way of mounting this, if you're so inclined. Since this is universal, there isn't one correct way to install this, but there are some tips I can give you to help make sure this thing isn't going to cause a ton of issues for you.You do have to be a little bit careful with the install. If it's not done properly, you're gonna be playing around with this thing a lot to fix it. You only wanna use the correct sized hose for the size fittings and lines that you're working with, and you don't want to use fuel hose. Trans fluid does have a specific hose that's rated for the pressure and chemical properties of the fluid. You also wanna make sure that you're using high quality clamps. Now, these clamps are okay, but if it were me, I would check these occasionally to make sure that they're still tight. Overall, you're looking at a two out of three wrenches on the scale, and about two hours of your time to get this installed.Wrapping things up here, this trans cooler from Mishimoto Performance is a universal application cooler that can offer some good benefits for the automatic trans Mustangs that are out there. It's gonna work to keep the trans fluid at the optimal temperatures to keep the trans properly lubricated and functioning to the best of its abilities. Protect Your Investment. Keep your Mustang's automatic transmission running cooler for better performance and a longer transmission life with a Mishimoto Transmission Cooler. Keeping your transmission fluid cool means it can do its job better and breaks down more slowly. This keeps your transmission's internals lubricated better. Better lubrication means a longer lasting, better shifting transmission.

This cooler works great when your stock transmission cooler can’t keep up with the temps anymore. Was seeing temps upwards of 200 degrees with stock cooler, put this one on hasn’t gone past 180 even 80 degree daysHelpful (4)

Mishimoto transmission cooler
The shop I took car to made a bracket that went across the new radiator and the cooler was mounted to the left side of radiator and air conditioning cooler, and that put trans. cooler in the direct air flow and left plenty of air space for the radiator. One problem was that the hose that came with the cooler would not fit on it unless a heat gun was used to soften the ends of the hoses a little then it was still kind of hard to push hose ends on cooler. I also added a mishimoto cooler with fan and a fan temp. controll module, and I have not seen temp on my aeroforce o.b.d gauges go above 175 degrees.Helpful (7)

Dont think twice. Just buy it. Light weight and compact. Mounts anywhere you'd like. This cooler will pay itself off wether your racing or a daily driver. Extends the life of your trans regardless of its use. Mishimoto made a great product. Being its a universal cooler, you can use the supplied plastic straps or fab up your own metal supports like I did. 5 star all the way. Thanks AM.Helpful (6)
Can this just mount in place of the existing factory transmission cooler? Or does that still need to be kept in place and this would just be an additional cooler? 2005 V6 Automatic.
This is an additional cooler and it would not be recommended to replace the existing cooler with the use of this one, it is an add on cooler to provide extra cooling for the transmission if experiencing harder driving conditions such as racing.
Does this cooler allow for the use of additional transmission fluid? If so, how may more quarts could I add.
This cooler does not allow much more room for extra trans fluid, due to the extra line, it would be best recommended to add 1/4 quart of transmission fluid.
I'm not seeing any reviews on this cooler when used on the S550 10 speed automatic. Is this going to fit and work? Is there any history? Thanks.
So this cooler only works with a mishimoto radiator and not the stock 2002 mustang gt (auto) radiator?
I own a 97 mustang gt v8 with an auto tranny. I just want to make sure but will it work with autos? Think I saw a yes before but I want to make sure. Also, is there anything else that is needed to make it fit?
This will fit on automatic transmissions.
This will work with your vehicle, assuming it is an automatic transmission. However, some custom work may be required due to the universal nature of this item.
This would need to be used with a Mishimoto aluminum radiator.
The Mishimoto Performance Transmission Cooler will allow the use of a manual trans radiator for cooling levels close to stock, or this can be used in conjunction with an automatic radiator for greater cooling by running both coolers.
This Mishimoto Performance Transmission Cooler is a universal fit item, and can be installed on almost any application as long as the inlet/outlet nipple in the transmission is the same diameter as the hose used in the kit.
No, this is specifically designed for automatic transmissions.
The Mishimoto Performance Transmission Cooler is a universal cooler kit and can be installed on almost any application. Depending on the mounting location, you may need additionally, tubing for installation.
The Mishimoto Performance Transmission Cooler (79-17 All) is a universal cooler kit and can be installed on almost any application. Depending on the mounting location, you may need additionally, tubing for installation.
This is made to be used with mishimoto radiator. I am sure your stock radiator does not have the ports required to run the coolant to the transmission cooler.
Yes, this is a universal transmission cooler that is used to cool automatic transmissions in combination with one of Mishimoto's aluminum radiators.
