      If you're tired of breaking the stock T-5 transmission in your modified Fox Body but don't want to step into a more expensive TKO or T56, the super heavy-duty T5Z from Tremec and Ford Performance would be a great compromise. Now, the upgraded T-5 here will feature a 300 pound-foot torque capacity along with that upgraded case to handle some increased abuse over the factory transmission, along with a plethora of upgraded guts, all for just south of two grand.Now, the site is gonna peg this one at a full three out of three wrenches on the old difficulty meter and a day or so to get everything knocked out. So, as many Fox Body owners can attest, the factory T-5 manual transmission wasn't exactly known for its strength. Now, sure it was a great transmission at the time but once you started adding some horsepower along with a more aggressive clutch and a stickier tire, it was really only a matter of time before they met their demise. And at that point, you had a couple of options. You could either rebuild your factory trans, which isn't exactly cheap, depending on your carnage, or you can upgrade to something stronger altogether. Now, the problem with that is that upgrading can get very expensive, depending on what you upgrade to. For instance, switching over to a TKO 600 would mean upgrading your bell housing, your driveshaft, your clutch, and your crossmember on top of the already expensive Tremec transmission, which leads us to the Ford Performance T5Z which we're talking about here today. And this guy is going to live somewhere between a stock rebuild and that TKO in regards to strength and price. Now, some Ford fans might already be very familiar with the T5Z transmission as an early variant can be found in cars like the '93 Cobra over for instance, and a lot of the guts that made that trans unique can still be found in the trans here today. That does include the 295 first gear ratio along with that very highway cruiser-friendly 0.63 fifth gear ratio, you're also getting the moly coated gears and countershaft for strength along with upgraded synchros and bearings loaded into the latest and greatest housing. You're also getting a steel input bearing retainer and that Cobra style pocket bearing and the 10-spline input shaft with that 28-spline output shaft, making this, again, a direct bolt-on for any T-5 equipped car. Other notable additions to the T5Z transmission from Ford Performance and Tremec include the 7-tooth speedo drive gear along the included short throw shift base which has already been bolted up for you. Now, the trans will ship dry so be aware of that but will utilize either Mercon or Dexron fluids and weigh in right around 83 pounds dry. Installing any transmission according to the site is gonna get a solid three out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter and we call it about a day or so to get everything installed but depending on your expertise, you might be able to bang this one out a little bit quicker. But if you're tired of rebuilding the stock T-5 in your Fox Body and you don't want to spend thousands and thousands of dollars on a TKO or a Magnum, the Ford Performance T5Z would be an excellent choice and you can grab yours right here at americanmuscle.com.

      Built Ford Tough. The Ford Racing T-5 Super Heavy Duty 5-Speed Transmission features improved synchronizers and bearings, double moly 2nd speed, 3rd speed and counter-shaft cluster gears and carbon fiber 3-4 blocker rings. It comes equipped with a 10 spline input shaft, a 28 spline output shaft, 7 tooth speedometer drive gear, cobra style pocket bearing, steel input bearing retainer and is designed to use Mercon fluid or Dextron 3.
