    Heavy Duty T-5. Is your high performance 5.0L Mustang making more power than your stock manual transmission can handle? Then you need to upgrade to the Ford Racing T-5 Super Heavy Duty 5-Speed Manual Transmission. This T-5 transmission is a heavy duty replacement for the stock T-5 and has a torque capacity of 300 lbs./ft. making it perfect for street and strip applications.

    Built Ford Tough. The Ford Racing T-5 Super Heavy Duty 5-Speed Transmission features improved synchronizers and bearings, double moly 2nd speed, 3rd speed and counter-shaft cluster gears and carbon fiber 3-4 blocker rings. It comes equipped with a 10 spline input shaft, a 28 spline output shaft, 7 tooth speedometer drive gear, cobra style pocket bearing, steel input bearing retainer and is designed to use Mercon fluid or Dextron 3.

    Gear Ratios. 1st 2.95; 2nd 1.94; 3rd 1.34; 4th 1.00; 5th 0.63

    Application. This Ford Racing Super Heavy Duty T-5 5-Speed Manual Transmission with Short throw shifter is designed to be a direct fit upgrade replacement in the 1979 to 1993 5.0L V8 Mustangs, including the LX 5.0, GT, and SVT Cobra models.

    Im looking at this to upgrade from the 4 speed SROD in my 83 GT Convertible. Can you tell me al what I need to do this conversion?

    • Installing the Ford Performance T-5 Super Heavy Duty 5-Speed Transmission will require a new bellhousing and transmission crossmember, as well as a new driveshaft. Additional components may be required however at this time we do not have a comprehensive list for this swap.

    • The 1995 Mustang GTs came factory with a T5 transmission, so you would be able to install this and still use the factory driveshaft without any spacers.

      Nice Cheap

      My reverse gear was chipped in my Stock '90 LX Sport 5.0 Convertible. Some the whole 5 Speed manual transmission was 28 years old, instead of rebuilding it, I bought this new one. It runs great now. All gears transition easy and no more grinding or noise. I love it!

      No Speedo

      The Ford Performance trans is a good trans for a street/track car.It shifts good into all gears,and has pretty good performance too. for some reason the T 5 I bought the speedometer did not work when we Installed it,I took the speed sensor out and i did not see a drive gear in the trans,I call A/M they gave me a credit to repair it.come to find out the clip that holds the drive gear in place had moved on assy the gear was there it slid back I just had to Replace the clip and it worked fine .It just sucked because that was a Brand new trans ,new fluid,extra time I had to RandR the trans to make the Repair.All in All its a good trans.

      Amazing upgrade

      To be honest was really thinking about just rebuilding my original transmission and keeping it all original however after some time constraints I went with purchasing this transmission. The performance and as well as the 5th gear for cruising speed is amazing to say the least with having 4.10 gears in the rear end driving on the highway was a nightmare. With this transmission I honest feel like I am driving my daily driver whenever I take it on the highway and you still have all the performance for taking it to the strip.

      This trans really makes a difference over the stock ford trans.

      My 89 fox GT has transitioned over the years with the addition of some major power upgrades. My stock ford trans just wasn't keeping up. I noticed grabbing 3rd gear was starting to make some noice. Changing out the stock trans for this Ford Racing upgrade is huge, no more shifting issues. The trans came with a nice short throw shifter but I chose to reinstall my Pro 5 0 shifter. For the money this transmission is a very good option over stock. I do wish there were an option to buy the transmission without the shifter, saving that cost. Still a great deal and product. Thanks American Muscle for all of the great deals you offer us Stang enthusiasts.

      Peace of mind

      The cost of the transmission out weigh the cost of transmission assessment and rebuild cost especially when you don't have the time to do it your self. I now have peace of mind of having a brand new Ford Racing product (better than stock) dependability. I can boost my Fox and have a reasonably priced trans that limits you to mild street and strip. Also cheaper then other web sites with super fast shipping. Combined with a Clutch kit and fly wheel from AM you cant go wrong. I wish AM would include a Trans Fluid combo offer with this.
