At first, I wasn't concerned about the big lettering that says "MADE IN MEXICO" on the box. But now it's regretful. My personal T56 Magnum has a horrible internal noise at low RPM, higher load (1500-2000rpm, half throttle and higher). Almost a metal on metal growling noise or bad bearings, then goes away. It also does not like to shift into 2nd gear above 3500rpm without grinding horrendously. All clutch/flywheel parts were checked and measured before install, so it is not that. Fluid was changed and it was as metallic as a pearl paint job on a lowrider G-body. Not saying this is for all the Magnums they sell, but this is my experience so far with 800 miles on it. Looks like a call to Tremec is on the schedule as from other reviews, AM directs you to Ford Racing.Helpful (40)

I have put 4000 miles on my transmission and it has already broken causing me to get the car towed home over 200 miles. It has had a rattling sound since about 2000 miles Ford Performance Parts DOES NOT offer a warranty. Now im out a transmission, $3,050, a hefty tow bill, and my only vehicle i would not buy again.Helpful (28)

Shifts like butter
I would recommend this trans to anyone, it shifts very smooth. Gear shifts are crisp and effortless. I have about 1000 miles on mine with no complaints. It comes with a shifter base but you will need a handle for it. It does require an 03/04 cobra bellhousing, crossmember, and shortened driveshaft, or aftermarket equivalents of those. For the price I feel like you cannot beat the bang for your buck with this trans.Helpful (24)

T56 Magnum for new edge mustangs
I have not gotten to drive the car with the magnum installed yet, but I have completed installation. There are some modifications needed to make this swap happen in a new edge. Anyone not already running a Cobra T56 will need a stock Cobra bell housing, crossmember, clutch fork, possibly even clutch cable setup would be best. In addition, the crossmember holes will need to be slotted 1/4" or so since the T56 magnum sits differently in the car. Your driveshaft will need to be shortened (measure for this once installed) roughly 1", maybe more, and a 31 spline yoke is required, stock cobra is a 27 spline piece. Anyone planning on running a twin disc clutch will need an adjustable pivot ball, and modifications to the clutch fork will be required for clearance. The Magnum already has a couple slots machined in the face of it for the clutch fork to sit in, but it is still not enough room for a twin disc. I know this sounds like a ton of work but it's really not bad. I am told the swap is completely worth it! I will update after I have completed trans break in mileage with driveability etc.Helpful (21)

Love Tremec transmissions
This is a great transmission. I love the way this thing shifts and its super easy to drive. I have not had a 6 speed before and was a little concerned about getting into 5th but after driving I have no worries. If you buy one of these make sure you can source a clutch fork if going on a cobra.Helpful (25)
Will this fit my stock bellhousing on my mustang V6 2000?
The Ford Performance TREMEC T56 6-Speed Transmission is for use with 999-2004 Mustangs equipped with a small block Ford 4.6L SOHC/DOHC or 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 engine. Unfortunately, this transmission will not work with your vehicle if you have the 3.8L V6 motor.
Would this work w a 2003 mustang v6?
This can be used with all Mustang models, however it is not a direct bolt on application.
I have a stock 02 GT and my tr3650 is toast so I wanted to upgrade. My question is will the stock engine be able to handle these steep gears and what will I need to do the swap? If not what would be a good transmission to swap (preferably 6 speed)? Also will I need to change to 4:10 rear end ratio or not? Hopefully in a couple of years there will be a 5.0 coyote and I don't want to have to buy a stronger transmission so I want to set myself up good for the future but the 5.0 is only a dream right now due to school and the lack of knowledge/money. Thank You!
The Ford Performance TREMEC T56 6-Speed Transmission - 2.66 1st Gear will work in your 2002 GT. The shift points are going to be completely different because you are going to putting in a 6-speed transmission. You will need to order a Quiktime bellhousing, a custom driveshaft (which will need to be shorter than stock), and a 26-spline clutch with a new flywheel to match. You will not need to change your rear gear ratio, but if you prefer to do so, I strongly suggest going with a 3.73 gear as the 4.10 gear is good if you are going to race your Mustang.
Given the difference in Input shaft and output shaft splines, is this a direct replacement for the T56 in my 2003 Cobra? Same bellhousing, shifter, speedo connections etc?
Not a direct 1:1 swap. (few parts will make it a faster swap) Shifter is different that the normal 4 bolt on the factory T56. (6 bolt you see in the picture is in the correct location) You will need to change to a 26 Spline clutch. You will need a shortened drive shaft due to the longer tail shaft. Speedo/other connections still work with no extensions. You will need to re-use your factory K-Member . I bought a aftermarket steel bellhousing instead of re-using the factory as it makes the top bolts easier to access. I also had to slightly reform my trans tunnel. Did this swap on a 2003 Cobra.
Looking to put in a 94 cobra with fully built stroked to 318 c.i. engine with a procharger. What gear ratio would be best if driving on street and highway?
This would not be a direct bolt on. Please contact your installer for a comprehensive list of additional components.
This will require custom modifications and is recommended to talk to your mechanic.
Even though it may "bolt up" so-to-speak, it's still not designed for this application inside a GT, so something like the length would likely be off. No matter which way you come at this build, your driveshaft will be more than likely need to be custom made one way or the other.
This Tremec T56 transmission may require a shorter driveshaft, a modified crossmember/trans mount and other minor modifications for proper installation. For SBF 302/351 Windsor engines use Quicktime bellhousing (part# 8031), for 4.6L/5.0L/5.4L modular engines use Quicktime bellhousing (part# 8080).
While this will bolt up it would require further modifications to work with a 96 GT.
The T56 has been installed in a number of vehicles stock, from the viper, to the corvette, Camaro and Firebird, and 203-2004 Cobra as well as numerous aftermarket versions. This Ford Performance TREMEC T56 6-Speed Transmission is not a stock transmission, but is loosely based on the 2003-2004 cobra OEM variant.
Ford performance dealers only have the ability to swap overdrive sets, however, it is a long process. We do carry the same style transmission with the specs you are looking for, Ford Performance TREMEC XL t56, item 348604. https://www.americanmuscle.com/frpp-tremec-magnumxl-t56.html
It would be a good idea to either rebuild your current transmission or buy an upgraded one. This Tremec Transmission will not be a direct bolt on to your V6 Mustang though. This Transmission is only designed for 1999 to 2004 Mustangs equipped with a small block Ford 4.6L SOHC/DOHC or 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 engine. You will have to do modifications in order for this Transmission to bolt up to your engine.
Mine was just the transmission with the shift on top; no handle.
