Review & Install Video

I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and this is our detailed breakdown of the Pypes Black Pype-Bomb Axle-Back Exhaust for the 2005-2010 Mustang GT. The Pype-Bomb is a true muffler-delete system, which is really going to free up that exhaust flow, all while helping you achieve one of the most aggressive tones you can get while using an axle-back system. I know this looks like a straight pipe, and it pretty much is to a certain extent. However, these massive 4 inch tips have been engineered and resonated, which reduces that popping sound often heard with other muffler-deleting kits. The Pype-Bomb is constructed from durable 100% stainless steel and then finished off in a sleek and stealthy black powder-coated finish for a very unique look. Getting the Pype-Bomb installed on your ride is very easy and should take you about an hour. Now let’s hear how Pypes Black Pype-Bomb Axle-back sounds compared to our factory exhaust.

Aggressive Sound. The Pypes "Pype-Bomb" Axle-Back with its Muffler Delete design provides the most aggressive sound and free flowing exhaust possible with the stock cats in place to produce more power that you can feel and hear.

Resonator Tips. The engineers at Pypes designed their new muffler delete exhaust system with specially engineered tips which include resonators to eliminate that loud annoying popping noise that other muffler delete kits can cause.

Quality Materials. Constructed from free flowing mandrel-bent 304 stainless steel, this Pypes "Pype-Bomb" axle-back exhaust features a pair of 4" resonator tips completed in a black powdercoated finish for aggressive good looks.

Application. This Black Pype-Bomb Axle-Back exhaust system is designed to fit the the 2005 to 2010 GT, Bullitt and Shelby GT500 Mustangs for aggressive good looks and impressive sound. This axle-back is made to be a direct bolt on to the stock location without any modifications required.

Technical Note: Americanmuscle recommends adding the 2005+ Mustang 304 Stainless Steel Exhaust Hanger Kit from the drop down option above, to provide more strength, stability and a cleaner installed appearance. If you have a 2007 Mustang you may need the kit for correct installation.

Will these work with an h-pipe? I'm considering getting this Axle-back kit but I don't know if they work with an H-Pipe. I want to get the Pypes Off-Rode H-Pipes and I would love to get those two sounds together. I just don't know anything about the exhaust systems to know what works with what.

MrDakota0

  • Sure, this axle-back can be combined with any mid-pipe designed for your GT, including the Pypes Off-Road H-pipe (find link below). This is because the mid-pipe and the axle-back do not directly connect to one another. Hope this helps!

  • The Pypes Black Pype-Bomb Axle-Back Exhaust (05-10 GT & GT500) will be able to fit on a 2009 Bullitt Mustang as mentioned in the "Will It Fit My Mustang?" portion of the page.

Question Resolved

Will these work with an X pipe? i plan on buying the Pypes cut and clamp X pipe and they say to order a catback system, but will this exhaust work ok with the x pipe instead of a catback?

DanL

  • Unfortunately not. The mid-pipe and axle-back do not directly connect to each other - there are flow tubes in between the two. The catback has the necessary piping from the mid-pipe all the way to the rear axle for a complete system. We do carry the Pype-Bomb as a catback, which I've attached below for you. Give us a call if you have any further questions!

Tune needed? Is a tune required? Would I get more out of the exhaust with a tune?

EMSPro159

  • "required"? no. Recommended? Always. Getting a tune on an otherwise bone stock s197 will increase performance. The stock tune is fairly conservative. Ford's usually are. After that, any time something's changed on the car, a tune will help maximize your gains.

    Quick and dirty

Finally got a day off so I knew I had time to bolt the Pype Bombs onto the car. No need for jack stands or ramps--however I did use the decline of the driveway out of the garage for a little work room. As others have written, getting the original mufflers off the car was a little tricky. Using a short ratchet and a 1/2 inch socket I got the old mufflers off in about 30 minutes and installing the Pype Bombs was quick and easy--like fifteen minutes-- taking my time and getting a good fit. After a test drive around the block I noticed a little rattle, so I dropped the hangers and tweaked the clamp a little bit. Second time was a charm and no more rattle. Acceleration sound is great as the RPM's build, but cruising sound is an acceptable rumble. Seems like the combination of the K&N CAI and the Pype Bombs is a winner.

    Quit researching and get these!!

When I was trying to decide what axle-back exhaust I wanted to get to replace the current ones on my car I thought long and hard, read tons of interviews and listened to numerous sound clips before I finally decided to get the Pype Bombs. I bought mine used and it already had after market exhaust that were nice but i wanted something a little more aggressive. Two things that sold me on the Pypes were the price and the positive reviews. However I must admit that when I first got them and saw the design i was afraid they would be too loud and/or have an unbearable drone at cruising speed. I couldn't have been more wrong!! These bad boys really made my car sound like a true muscle car and there is a slight power increase that's always a bonus. Even the wife likes them and i have gotten quite a few compliments from other people, both male and female, as well! Installation was not bad. Luckily i have a friend that has an air compressor and a nice air wrench that certainly cut a little of the labor out. Be sure and have a good 13mm socket and an open/box end wrench as the wrench will be needed to take the forward most hanger bracket off. I had to remove both hanger brackets on mine and i would assume that all 2010's are alike. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase and the great customer service from AM. I will be adding pic in the next few days as my Stang is black and the black exhaust tips add just that more "fast" look to it. As the title says, stop your research and get the Pype-Bombs!!

    Attention Grabber

I just added these to my 2007 GT/CS which was purchased over the winter with 6000 miles. I desired to keep a mostly stock look for the CS, and the 4" black Pypes tips look amazing with the black CS air spltter on the back and add a mean and aggressive look appropriate for a performance Mustang. There is a very limited selection of black tips on the market and I was concerned about the loudness for an (almost) straight pipe; they are loud but not over the top or obnoxious. The exhaust note is very aggressive and will definitely grab attention. It sounds amazing at idle (reminiscent of a 60's era Mustang) and continues the amazing (and loud) sound throughout the throttle band, sending chills at WOT. There is a small amount of drone at 1800-2000 rpm however that was more or less expected and it is within tolerable limits. With the FRPP intake and BAMA tune installed before the exhaust, there is a small, but noticable increase in performance and throttle response with this setup. Installation was very easy and took about 2 hours, most of which was devoted to getting the boring factory boxes off due to rusty bolts and limited access to the bolts. (A 15mm deep socket is reccomended for the clamps.) It should be noted that there are notches on the factory H-pipe (if you're only installing the axle back) which would not line up with the grooves on the Pypes. This required taking an angle grinder to remove the notches, which only took about 10 minutes. After that the Pypes installed easily with the provided clamps and some muffler cement for a perfect seal. It is worth replacing the rust prone factory hangars while everything is off the car. The price was fair costing much less than other axle back solutions and as always AM provides quick shipping and great customer service. Highly reccomended.

    Black Pypes Pype Bomb

Well, the first set I received had to be returned, because I was sent to passenger side pipes, but AM was great and sent me a new set that day and they arrived the following afternoon. That said, these black pipes look mean on the car, much more agressive than my Borlas did. Install took me about 30 minutes, my only gripe is that the notch on the passenger side pipe didnt match up with the stud on the over-axle pipe at all. No biggie though, just something I thought I'd mention. I was more or less blown away when I cranked the engine. The sound is loud and deep. It sounds scary, its amazing. Theres definitely a drone around 2k, 2.5k, but its not that bad; my Borlas were worse. I noticed that the car was a little quicker, and my MPG improved from 17.9 to 18.2. Buy these pipes!

    Pype Bomb Low Down

(2006 redfire mustang gt)Ok, so if your anything like me, you have already spent countless hours on AM and youtube looking up clips with different combo's of exhausts. Just so I can save you some time I decided to give you my two cents. The pype bombs came very quickly as always with AM, it was about 6 in the afternoon here in OK so the sun was pretty much gone...like that was going to stop me. So I got out there with my flashlight and wrenches and completed the removal and installation in about an hour, maybe a little more. I spent probably double the time getting the old ones off. My advice is to use WD-40 and save yourself some cursing. Once they were off and I cleaned up the pipes, the Pype Bombs were on in about 15 minutes tops. Since, I could feel slight but present increases in HP, don't expect crazy amounts after all its just axle backs. The sound is great, yes it is loud as everyone has said so don't buy it if you don't like it. I happen to fully enjoy it. There is some backflow of air that you can hear going back through the chambers whenever you let off the throttle after getting on it some but it isn't enough to bother me. The resonation is present but again, the drone is present for maybe 500 rpm throughout the range and goes away upon gear change. It was everything I was looking for and I was looking for a good year due to me not actually having the car yet! But the anticipation was well worth it and I would fully recommend them given you are looking for the things I listed above. Happy shopping gentlemen (and ladies!). *Also this is the only mod currently on the car so any gains/sound improvement is solely from the Pype Bombs.

They will hear you from miles away

These pipes are amazing. The sound from them is just fantastic. not the high raspy sound you hear on alot of aftermarket pipes. These are a deep roar! Only problem is trying to talk in the car under acceleration is a thing of the past. Even with sound deadening its almost impossible to talk through. Talking through the cars bluetooth while accelerating is not going to happen.

    Sounds awesome, fitment wasnt great

The driver side hanger didn't fit 100%. had to heat up the hanger and bend it for it fit flush with bumper. These axle backs also stick out a couple inches from the bumper. Wasn't a big deal but it does look silly. sound is amazing 100% what i wanted. it turns heads even with the stock H-Pipe. i cant even imagine what an off-road x pipe would sound like. overall 4.5/5 good product.

    Not worth it

Got this for a first axle back and was hoping for that awesome sound that was acclaimed, got them installed in no time the hardest part was taking the stock ones off. After getting them on I noticed the passenger side didn't fit as well as other, they both stick out the same and look good but it's like the exhaust pipe isn't same size as the stick pipe and it won't tighten all the way and it rattles every so often when I'm driving or Idling and the guy at local muffler shop said the best solution is welding it which I didn't want to in case of an upgrade. I then got an offload H pipe for it and now it is annoying and raspy loud. For the price of these its not worth it it's better to just buy a better exhaust system.

    For anyone with a v6!

My v6 started with a single flowmaster, then dual ebay brand exhausts (pype x pipe), and now finally stock manifolds/cats , x pipe, and then the pype bombs. It is impossible to find a good sounding exhaust, but I have found it. By far the toughest, most aggressive option. I've ran straight pipes on my 6 and it sounds horrible. I wanted something as close as possible in terms of loudness but without the harsh sounding popping and stuff like that. This I believe is the loudest possible exhaust that you can live with day in and day out. Cruising speed is quiet enough to hold a conversation (barely) and a little throttle it will turn heads. I am in love with this exhaust. First day driving it had two people try to race me in the same night. Loudness is as good as it gets if you like loud with good quality sound 5/5. The note is as good as it gets for the volume. Sometimes you have to sacrifice a little tone for volume and this is a perfect mix. My only complaint is fit and finish. Exhaust came in with a couple dings (luckily not noticeable once mounted so I didn't return them) and if the tips are in the right light you can see swirl marks on them. For a brand new in the box never used muffler just from the powdercoater I expected MINT condition. However once mounted, there black, they blend in, and they look amazing. So tired of chrome tips. the v8 is usually pretty easy to get good sound out of, and if this sounds good on a v6 I can guarantee they sound even better on a v8. ;)

    Way too Loud

I have headers and high flow cats on my GT, along with the stock mufflers. These axle backs are just too loud and take away the great mustang sound that I am used to. I'm sure they are not as loud with the stock exhaust. Just doesn't work for me, love the look on my Alloy Metallic GT, would love to see a manufacturer make the black tip on a muffler style axle back....

    Great sound!

I had flowmaster american thunders on my car and the constant loud drone was unbearable. The pype bombs are great! Very deep v8 goodness all the time, although it's not a quiet system while cruising, after a few hundred miles there is NO DRONE. I still have stock manifolds/midpipe so once i have long tubes and offroad h, they'd get pretty loud I'd imagine. But if you just want aggressive sound, save the $ and get these over flowmasters, can't speak for other brands.

Truthfully I will never buy any other exhaust again. I ran it on a 98 Gt and now on the 06 both of them I ran the X-pipe. I think they are the best sounding pipes out there. They will make everyone look at any speed you are going. I'm even going to run them on my truck. Awesome product with an awesome price.
