Dave with, and I have with me an item that’s highly reviewed and highly rated by our customers. It’s the Pypes polished shorty headers for the 2005 – 2010 Mustang GT. A shorty header is a great entry level header, especially when compared to your factory manifold. The factory manifolds are cheap, one piece cast iron designs, and they are easy to manufacture and extremely restrictive. In fact, they retain heat, they restrict exhaust flow, and look rusted and ugly before you even know it. A shorty header is going to go directly in place of your factory exhaust manifold, meaning it is going to go into your same exact location, it’s going to have the same length as your factory manifold, and bolt up to the head on one side and your factory midpipe on the other, meaning there are no other items to purchase and no other modifications required unlike when you run the long tube headers. Unlike your bulky and restrictive factory exhaust manifold, these Pypes polished shorty headers, they’re made from stainless steel, they’re 1 5/8” diameter and they’re guaranteed horsepower and sound the moment you bolt them onto your Mustang. Since these are going to allow the motor to expel the exhaust gases faster from the car, you can count on these delivering not only more sound, but about 8-10 more horsepower, with no tuning required. A common question our customer services reps get all the time is “Hey, if I pick up a shorty style header, do I need a shorty mid pipe?” The answer is no, a shorty style mid pipe is only utilized when you pick up a long tube header. A shorty style header is going to go ahead and use your factory length mid pipe to ease installation. Just by looking at these headers, you can tell they’re a high quality product. They’re polished to a shine, and they’re mandrel bent, to guarantee you’re going ot get top notch looks, and performance out of these headers. Pypes has taken a lot of time to do in house testing on these headers, which are made from 304 stainless steel, they’re making sure they’re going to outshine, outflow, and outlast your factory exhaust manifolds, and like all other manifolds from Pypes, they’re backed by a limited lifetime warranty. The high polished shine is going to come in handy when trying to view the header, it’s located way down in the engine bay and can be a bit of a bear to view, as well as to work on, so if you do leave the install to the professionals there’s no shame in that. If you think you’re up to the challenge, I’d recommend you leave yourself a full afternoon if not a full day, and I would certainly lay out the tools beforehand to make it that much easier. You’ll want to have a full socket set with extensions, you’ll want to get some penetrating oil to get the factory manifold bolts off, you’re also going to want to have some gasoline remover to make sure everything is cleaned off before you install your new headers. Even though these headers are designed to bolt up to your factory mid pipe, we recommend you have the entire exhaust system upgraded at the same time to get yourself the maximum gains in flow, and the maximum gains in performance. I’ll tell you, by getting rid of the factory mid pipe and upgrading everything at once, you’ll absolutely notice a tone change by the added airflow. The Pypes polished shorty header comes with all the hardware and gaskets needed for installation, and it works well with your factory length mid pipe or aftermarket full length mid pipe, to add performance and sound to 2005-2010 3 valve Mustangs.

Manufactured from 1-5/8" mandrel bent 304 stainless steel tubing for strength and improved airflow, these Pypes Shorty Mustang Exhaust headers feature a one piece 3/8" thick header flange for additional strength and an OEM fit. Pypes headers are then polished to a bright finish for impressive under hood styling.

Application. Designed as a direct bolt on, these Pypes Shorty Headers will bolt straight up in the stock location to the factory Mid-Pipe without any modifications on the 2005 to 2010 4.6L GT Mustang to improve exhaust flow and sound.

Are these shory headers compatible with other exhaust manufacturers? Hello, I have a V8 2010 GT Premium. I recently just purchased a flowmaster axle back exhaust. I now would like to buy a set of chrome shorty headers and shortly there after a mid-pipe, but i am not sure if these (pypes) will work with other manufacturers? Should I stay consistent with Flowmaster for a complete exhaust? Any suggestions or recomendations you can offer would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Rob

  • yes, you can mix and match....on my '05 gt i have bbk shorties, after market h-pipe, after marker over the axle mid pipe and slp axle back and it sounds muscular (not crackly like an x-pipe) headers will "blue" on you quickly...i use 304 stainless on my headers (409 stainless will blue, too) and most of my exhaust so it'll last forever (they'll never "blue" on you)....ceramic wil keep their color, too...whatever your budget and desires can handle....flowmasters make a good complete system for your car too

Will this work with pypes off road H-Pipe? I was considering buying new headers and a mid-pipe for my 2007 GT/CS. The car already had Bassani mufflers already on the car when I got it. I like the sound of the exhaust that results from the combination of the Pypes off road H-Pipe and the Bassani mufflers. I was wondering if the Pypes shorty headers would work with the off road H-pipe and if it would keep the old school rumble that results from the H-pipe.

  • As long as you keep an H-pipe, you will get the old school rumble. Your exhaust will get slightly louder though.

Are they leagal in california

  • The Pypes Polished Shorty Headers for the 05-10 Mustang GT has not been tested or approved by the California Air Resource Board (CARB) meaning it is not legal for use upon highway in California.


I would like to know if these go out into a 3" pipe at the mid pipe side.

  • Hi, These Pypes Polished Shorty Headers are designed to bolt up to either a factory or aftermarket mid pipe i suggest using the BBK Off-Road X-Pipe Item #56120 it is the largest diameter midpipe we offer it is 2-3/4" Here is the link

Do these headers come with a carb sticker for smog? Would they be smog legal in California?

Header question Is anybody running these headers with stock mid and axle back violators on? Just wondering how much the tone will change? I can't be cracking obnoxious but Deep loud good.

  • The Pypes Polished Shorty Headers will definitely cause a change in sound and will be louder, however, the crackling is typically associated with an x-pipe. If you keep the factory h-pipe, you should not have a problem.

    Horrible fitment

    Installed these and the steering shaft is hitting the headers. Moved the motor over some still hitting and vibrating. Used washers on motor mounts to raise it off the header and it helped a little but caused a huge vibration now. I had o/r x pipe and slp loudmouth and these headers quietened my car down. It sounds like I have the stock cats back on it. As for the power hard to tell a huge difference

    Shorty headers

    I have 2005 Mustang GT I have supporting mods K&N cold air intake 373 gears exedy Mach 350 clutch bama tune hurst short throw shifter off road x pipe flowmaster 40 mufflers and it was really load and sounded great but for some reason after installing these headers and it changed the sound all together and made it very quiet I thought headers would make it a little louder but I was completely wrong

    excellent product!

    Ive installed headers on different vehicles before so it really wasnt that bad, but I did have an issue with the steering shaft rubbing against the flange to the down pipe. I also have the pypes down and o/r x-pipe. so I just disconnected the steering shaft and filed down the flange just enough for clearance. no problems other than that.

    It only took me about 5 hours to get them on but i had a lift which made it alot easier! so far i havent had any problems losing the nuts but its only been about 2 weeks.. great headers!

    Spins third

    I already had the Pypes Violator axle back kit installed. I finally ordered the Pypes off road mid pipes with "X" pipe ,and these headers. After paying to have these installed the exhaust note became extremley aggressive and very loud. Also I gained the ability to easily spin 3rd. Great product! Thanks AM.

    Only one problem

    Got these on my 05' gt and arent a bad product, but I don have problems with the nuts coming loose on these repeatedly and disappearing. Tried double bolting since it gets to hot for lock tight. Thats the only other concern, these heat up and heat up fast.

    sound great hard install

    so after 12 hours of trying to install these with my buddy i finally gave up with them complete minus a stud.....way too many leaks to name but after a trip to the shop and 150 bucks they sound awesome and i can feel the improvement on pick up. bottom line if you are a hobby mechanic like me just pay to have them put in.

    Rubs my Steering column!

    First off I love the sound of these headers along with Pypes o/r X-pipe and Flowmaster axelbacks! Sounds like an animal! I do have a problem with my steering column rubbing and making it hard to turn so im gonna have to go back and lift the motor a tad bit but thats a quick fix! Cant wait for my next purchase from American Muscle!

    Pypes shorty headers

    I ordered these to go along with my pipes o/r x-pipe and catback, "the beast" package-Before my car was obnoxiously loud and had a raspy sparatic sound. I WAS going to try to install it myself at a local shop on miramar mcas, funny thing is when I went there was another guy there trying to install shorty headers on his mustang. He was there for 2 full days and was in the process of removing his front axel. I asked him, "would you rather have just paid $300 for a professional install?" he said, "dude I'm thinking about towing it right now." soo I took that advice and went to another local shop and paid $300 for the professional install. It took them 6 hours and the said they had to lift the motor and remove the engine mounts. When I went to pick it up, and they started my car, a tear ran down my face cuz it sounded so good! It was deffiently quieter BUT it sounded so smooth and it just absolutly roared. When I drove it, I immediately noticed my first and second gears were shorter(cuz I was going faster). I don't care what anyone says about shorty headers not giving you power. It's complete BS, cuz I deffiently noticed a difference. All in all though, I'm very happy with the selection I made by going with pypes shorty headers. I'd recommend them for anyone, especially at the price they're at.... A really nice upgrade over stock.

    pypes headers

    I sent a review already but the headers fit good, the insturctions are good, headers fit better if you use the supplied bolts, I put them on by myself at home. I reccomend them and american muscle, great thanks Gene

    Love These Headers

    I installed these headers at home in about 4 hours. What an improvement in exhaust flow and sound! I also installed a complete pypes M-80 mid muffler system with pype bomb resonators and off road x pipe. Installation was fairly easy due to the excellent fit of the pypes system. I recomend removing the motor mounts completely to allow for an unobstructed view of all of the mounting studs/nuts. I also recomend driving the car for a few days and checking for tightness. After I went over the nuts/studs the second time they were perfect. Simply put, these headers are outstanding for the price and increase in power!

    Great product, horrible fit

    I love the way these headers changed the tone of the exhaust. It finished up everything I had to give it that muscle car sound I was looking for. Only down fall which I was a little upset about was that the fit of these headers was horrible!! I read tons of reviews of everyone saying they didn't have any problems with them fitting properly but the shop I took it to had nothing but problems. I even tried taking to Lamotta and they turned me away saying they don't deal with anything pypes because they have nothing but problems with the way they fit. Overall the sounds great.     Very Nice!!!

    Ok let me start by saying I love these headers! I'm not much of a mechanic however, my buddy is. I wanted to actually get in there and get my hands dirty, because I usually have everything done at a shop, that's what money is for right? Getting my hands dirty is exactly what happened! After about 5hours of working we were able to get one side on, and decided to come back the next day and finish up. I however had other plans and that was to have a truck come pick up my vehicle and drop off and a local shop. After about 3hrs he was done and he also made sure that the work my buddy and I had done was good, which it was besides one bolt, that we could not get to to tighten. I informed him about that ahead of time though. Unless you have your own shop or, are a very good mechanic, I would not recommend doing yourself. The headers made my "Pype Bombs" sound even better. Maybe its just me but the car feels lighter, I'm completely on to the Pypes hi-flow cats!!!

    Not Recommended

    I had these installed and the driver side header flange was warped. The next time i buy headers won't be Pypes brand and they will be long tubes for sure. Shorty Headers = visual upgrades NOT performance ones as the stock headers flow just as good.
