- How to Intall JBA Cat4ward Shorty Headers on Your 2005-2010 Mustang GT
Hi I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and this is our breakdown of BBK’s tuned length shorty header, available in your choice of either ceramic or chrome for the 2005-2010 Mustang GT. So why would you want to use a set of shorty header versus a set of long tubes? Well in a nutshell, a shorty header is a great entry level header. For one, they’re generally less expensive than a set of long tubes, and they’re going to be easier to install thanks to the fact that you don’t have to modify your mid pipe like you would using long tubes. A shorty header might not make as much power as a set of long tubes, but it’s still going to be a solid upgrade over those cast iron factory manifolds. These particular headers feature what BBK refer to as their tuned length runner design, which basically makes them a hybrid between a long tube and a standard shorty header. In the end, BBK claims slightly more power using these headers versus your standard shorty design, while still maintaining a no modification needed, direct bolt on. Taking a closer look at these headers, you’ll see they feature 1 and 5/8” mandrel bent tubing for better flow, and laser cut flanges for an OEM like fit. As I mentioned before you do have the option of picking these shorties up in either a ceramic coating, or a chrome finish. So what are the differences going to be between the two finishes? For one you can see the chrome finish is a little brighter now, but that’s going to change as these headers heat cycle, turning that bright silver chrome color into a more copperish blue color. However, the ceramic coated headers will stay that bright silver color over the years. Secondly, that ceramic coating is going to be much better at reducing underhood temps, which is always better for performance. Those added benefits do come at a price as ceramic coated headers are generally more expensive than chrome headers, or even stainless steel headers. Doing the install on any set of headers can be a little intense, so it’s a great idea to leave yourself a full day, just in case anything goes wrong. As always if you don’t feel confident with the install, don’t be afraid to give your local shop a call, they should be able to help you out. Install is easy if you know how to work on cars. Took 1 day. Follow instructions and take your time. Premium gaskets that come with them worked fine no leaks. They do change the sound of your exhaust. But you can feel the horse power. Ceramic coating looks good. Overall pleased with these headers.Helpful (0)

Was not a direct bolt on
My mechanic advised against me adding these after he showed me they were not a direct fit and had to alter a few minor things to make it work. My car already sounds good and it wasn’t worth the modifications to add. They are cool headers but not what I was dreaming ofHelpful (0)

Tough squeeze but worth it
Installed this on an 08 GT w/ 102K miles. Screwed two 2x8s together and used them on jack to raise engine by the front oil pan bolts. Must use a claw pick up tool to install the bolts on left side. #7 tube requires a 20mm long bolt on top, not the 25mm bolts in the kit. #4 tube requires a bolt on the bottom; stud interferes. Use only 6 point sockets; 12 points round off your fasteners. Best way to clean the gasket surface is an oscillating tool and a green Scotch Brite pad; blue pads do nothing. Use bungie cords or cargo straps to hold up the midpipe. Makes it much easier to install. Mileage is a little better. The sounds is a little more staccato. This took longer than any other headers I've ever installed.Helpful (2)

These headers as I was told from my exhaust shop are a real pain to put on due to small space. However, my stock manifolds bolts were rusted so they had to heat them up. Just something to look for when installing. As for how they look well great compared rusted OEM manifold. But the sound is incredible with full exhaust! Before it sounded all lumped together after I can hear the exhaust pulses. Sounds similar to if I put on different cams but I have OEM. Great product and can feel more power and very responsive.Helpful (1)
Does the order include the pair or just one ?
These are sold in pairs.
Just wondering what type of additional horsepower should be expected and will this have an impact on fuel consumption? Also are there any long term disadvantages to making an addition like this? I am not someone that races my vehicle I just like it to look good and sound awesome. I currently have k n cold air intake and Flowmaster exaust on my 2008 GT. Thanks for your help.
The headers, with a good tune, will give you upwards of 15 or so extra hp. You may lose out on a few mpg's (it really isn't much though) due to your added power, but there are no negative aspects aside from this. In fact, the ceramic coating will not only allow for the headers to preform at their full potential in hot conditions, but in being able to handle hot conditions better these will last much longer than your stock headers would.
Is all REQUIRED hardware included? I've already purchased recieved, but not had the opportunity to install yet. A friend said he had to purchase new bolts. My hardware bag has ONLY 4 new studs several smaller bolts.

I have a general question here. Are the long headers generally louder than the shorty headers? If so, over all how do you gauge which ones of the loudest group are more superior than the other?
Yes, the long tube headers will have a much more aggressive sound when compared to the shorty headers.
Will this work with the pypes off road x pipe??
These shorty headers will work with all 2005-2010 Mustang GT models with either an aftermarket or stock mid-pipe.
Yes, these would work on any 05-10 GT with an aftermarket or stock midpipe.
These shorty headers will not require a tune after installation. However, getting a custom tune would help you obtain the optimum performance out of your upgrade and we would recommend a tune. A Tune would be required to disable toe cats and prevent P0430 and P0420 codes for catalyst efficiency with an o/r H pipe.
We suggest reaching out to your tuner to see if the BBK 1-5/8 in. Ceramic Tuned Length Shorty Headers will work properly with the tune you are running now. It may not be safe to change the headers and drive with them.
We do not have just the carb EO stickers, however, you may be able to get them directly from BBK.
These will add some great sound and power, especially with a Bama custom tune. We would highly recommend listening to a few sound clips to with the headers and a similar set-up to your own to see if the sound difference up to your liking.
No, these headers will only fit V8 GT models
these bbk shorty headers replaced my stock manifold perfectly. its not an easy job , not much room to work with but you will like the end result. I installed these in my 2007 Shelby GT .
These shorties are CARB 50-state legal (and work well with a S/C). But, if this isn't a concern to you, go long tubes for greater gains in hp and torque.
These shorties will fit directly to your stock mid-pipes without add-ons.
The coupling is in the same location as the stock manifolds, so I would think that it would.
