    Review & Install Video

Hi I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and this is our breakdown of BBK’s tuned length shorty header, available in your choice of either ceramic or chrome for the 2005-2010 Mustang GT. So why would you want to use a set of shorty header versus a set of long tubes? Well in a nutshell, a shorty header is a great entry level header. For one, they’re generally less expensive than a set of long tubes, and they’re going to be easier to install thanks to the fact that you don’t have to modify your mid pipe like you would using long tubes. A shorty header might not make as much power as a set of long tubes, but it’s still going to be a solid upgrade over those cast iron factory manifolds. These particular headers feature what BBK refer to as their tuned length runner design, which basically makes them a hybrid between a long tube and a standard shorty header. In the end, BBK claims slightly more power using these headers versus your standard shorty design, while still maintaining a no modification needed, direct bolt on. Taking a closer look at these headers, you’ll see they feature 1 and 5/8” mandrel bent tubing for better flow, and laser cut flanges for an OEM like fit. As I mentioned before you do have the option of picking these shorties up in either a ceramic coating, or a chrome finish. So what are the differences going to be between the two finishes? For one you can see the chrome finish is a little brighter now, but that’s going to change as these headers heat cycle, turning that bright silver chrome color into a more copperish blue color. However, the ceramic coated headers will stay that bright silver color over the years. Secondly, that ceramic coating is going to be much better at reducing underhood temps, which is always better for performance. Those added benefits do come at a price as ceramic coated headers are generally more expensive than chrome headers, or even stainless steel headers. Doing the install on any set of headers can be a little intense, so it’s a great idea to leave yourself a full day, just in case anything goes wrong. As always if you don’t feel confident with the install, don’t be afraid to give your local shop a call, they should be able to help you out. So if you’re looking for a bolt on header with the installation and price benefits of a shorty header design, with the performance to back it up, then you’ll definitely want to check out a set of these BBK tuned length shorty headers for your ride today.

More horsepower and torque. Improve the horsepower and torque of your 2005-2010 GT pony with a set of BBK Shorty headers. These BBK Shorty headers will improve your mustangs exhaust flow increasing your pony's horsepower and torque.

Silver Ceramic Coating. These Tuned Length Shorty Headers are completed in BBK's Polished Silver Ceramic Coating that not only looks great, but reduce under hood temperatures to help increase horsepower and extend the life of the headers. Ceramic Coated headers will long out last both chrome plated and polished headers.

Quality Construction. These BBK Shorty Exhaust headers are manufactured from 1 5/8" CNC mandrel bent tubing for unrestricted airflow and one piece laser cut 3/8" flanges for added strength. The headers are then finished with BBK's high-temp Silver Polished Ceramic Coating for good looks and to lower under hood temperatures.

Application. Designed to fit the 2005-2010 4.6 3V GT Ford Mustang. These BBK Ceramic Coated shorty headers include high-quality mounting hardware and gaskets, so that they will bolt right up to your Mustangs stock Mid Pipe.

Technical Notes. These BBK Shorty Headers are CARB certified (CARB EO Number: D-245-16) and 50 state legal.

Just wondering what type of additional horsepower should be expected and will this have an impact on fuel consumption? Also are there any long term disadvantages to making an addition like this? I am not someone that races my vehicle I just like it to look good and sound awesome. I currently have k n cold air intake and Flowmaster exaust on my 2008 GT. Thanks for your help.

    • The headers, with a good tune, will give you upwards of 15 or so extra hp. You may lose out on a few mpg's (it really isn't much though) due to your added power, but there are no negative aspects aside from this. In fact, the ceramic coating will not only allow for the headers to preform at their full potential in hot conditions, but in being able to handle hot conditions better these will last much longer than your stock headers would.

Will this work with the pypes off road x pipe??

    • These shorty headers will work with all 2005-2010 Mustang GT models with either an aftermarket or stock mid-pipe.

Will these work on an 08 GT, manual, with SLP catted x pipe?

    • Yes, these would work on any 05-10 GT with an aftermarket or stock midpipe.

Well I need a tune if installing these and a Pypes o/r H pipe?

    • These shorty headers will not require a tune after installation. However, getting a custom tune would help you obtain the optimum performance out of your upgrade and we would recommend a tune. A Tune would be required to disable toe cats and prevent P0430 and P0420 codes for catalyst efficiency with an o/r H pipe.

If I’m running a twin turbo set up, can I install these in my garage and drive without a tune until I can get my car to a dyno?

    • We suggest reaching out to your tuner to see if the BBK 1-5/8 in. Ceramic Tuned Length Shorty Headers will work properly with the tune you are running now. It may not be safe to change the headers and drive with them.

Hello, Looking to add these headers to a Pypes Offroad H Pype and Flowmaster Axle Back Outlaws. I do not want to lose any exhaust note (read in reviews that these will do that at lower RPM's). I love the way my car sounds and want it to sound even better. People hear me before they see me. I am also running a Steeda 90mm CAI and Ford racing 4.10 gears. With my set up will these be a nice addition sound wise and performance wise with a new Bama Race Tune? Thank you. 1 answer

Shorty Header + Supercharger? Is it inadvisable to use shorty headers with a supercharger? Eventually looking to supercharge, but with my current X-pipe exhaust setup shorty headers will fit without having to re-do the exhaust, can't say the same for long tubes. Worth it

These are great headers. I love the sound they make compared to the stock ones. I would say this is a medium to large job not a light job. I have noticed some gains in the mid to higher rpm.

Had installed and found passenger side was leaking from poor weld. Wanted to return just tht one bad one and was told I had to send both bak instead of just the bad one. Poor customer service had to deal with bbk direct for a replacement

      Great shorties

These shorty headers sound great, definitely more engine sound and feel the power increase but the only issues is one of the bolts you have to hit into place cause of clearance issues but otherwise good product

      Tough install

This project was a lot of work. The drivers side was much more difficult than the passengers side. On the drivers side the third bolt from the front had to be shortened to fit into the flange whole do to it hitting the header pipe. Only the two front factory studs on both sides could be used, the rest are the bolts that come with the headers. Other than that they looks great and have a noticeable gain in torque and horsepower. If you are not mechanically inclined I would not recommend this as a do it yourself project.

      Tuned Length Shorty Headers

Much better flow and overall performance over the factory manifolds. I was super tired of using the factory manifolds for my single turbo setup and these were a perfect fit and function for my setup. Also the appearance is much much better would strongly recommend.

These headers are great with the direct bolt on and the ceramic finish is awesome, A lot of people say to go with long tubes but if you already have a nice mid-pipe that cant support long tubes, this is your product, adds low end torque and looks great!

      Great sound, nice power gain.

Had these installed by the shop I use, 5 hours, $442. Since it's been documented that the install is a b_tch, I wasn't surprised. But I noticed the power change immediately. Definitely more torque from a dead stop and it feels like it'll wind up the RPMs faster, tho I haven't had a chance to really get on it as yet. After a few days, I've noticed a more distinct sound in the exhaust, like the firing of cylinders are more separated at idle. The engine is for sure breathing much better. It's too bad they aren't more visible under the hood, because I really like the ceramic finish.

BBK shorty ceramic headers- 07 Mustang Gt

Great product and fitment very satisfied takes about a day of install doing it yourself if you are mechanically inclined you can do this with 4 jack stands, remember you will have to jack your motor remove motor mounts, steering arm, starter nothing major. My car has 70,000 miles you might break a header bolt on the on the original Rusty cast iron duds if so carefully drill out or ez out. I only broke one it was no big deal again highly recommended perfect fitment. Car will breathe much better I am considering cat deletes currently running original cats and do like it the way it is. Let's not forget this looks great under the hood 2!

      Great Headers!

Nice intermediate mod for my S197. Removed engine mounts one at a time for installation of headers. Might have been able to install without removal but made job much easier. Fit is great but make sure there is no play in steering shaft u-joints or shaft will hit header. I got a kick out of BBK's install time estimate: 2 hrs! Took me that long to line up the beer. All told was 2 days with time to run after swivel joints and extra extensions.
