      Video Review & Installation

Justin: You should be checking out the Bama SF4 Tuning Combo for your ride if you are after a solid custom tuning option for your '99 to '04 V6 that will offer large improvements in both performance and drivability. Now, the two included tunes will be loaded onto the Bama SF4 device and can be had for the low $400 price point. So right off the bat, guys, the site claims Bama Tune new edge V6's will pick up roughly 10 horsepower, 10-pound-feet of torque to the tires on average. Now, the tuning team from Bama is able to accomplish this by adjusting things like your ignition timing, also your air-fuel ratio along with some other parameters to ensure you are getting the most out of your setup by doing so safely. Now, the Bama Tunes will also offer an overall better driving experience with things like improved throttle response, firmer shift points on some of those automatics out there, and at the same time still maintaining the reliability of a factory car with no weird driving issues, no stalling, or no idle surges. Now, you will be receiving two custom tunes from Bama which are tailored specifically for your ride, a performance and a race tune. Now, the Bama team will ask you a series of detailed questions about your new edge V6 and all of its modifications before getting to work and creating a specifically built tune for your ride and, again, all of your installed mods. Now, those two custom Bama Tunes are gonna be loaded onto your X4 or SF4 device here, which I would say is definitely one of the most commonly used tuning devices in the aftermarket and for a good reason, right? Very easy to use. It's gonna offer a number of different features and is relatively affordable overall. Now, in addition to carrying and uploading the tunes, I think you'll find the X4 is gonna be a pretty useful little device that can do a number of things for both you and your ride. First and foremost, it will be used as a monitoring device which is gonna be capable of reading and displaying a bunch of your vehicle data in real-time. We're talking things like air-fuel ratio, intake air temperature, cooling temperature, RPM, and so much more. And, by the way, it can all be viewed on your screen in real-time, like we said, but it can also be very easily data logged at a simple push of a button. But along with all that, the X4 here can be used as a diagnostic troubleshooting tool to basically read and clear check engine lights and you can also return your car to stock at any point using this device. Now, the X4 can also take care of future firmware updates wirelessly which does certainly come in handy and the device itself is capable of holding up to 10 different tunes at any given time. But perhaps one of the best things about going with a custom tune such as the Bama X4 besides the power gain is the ease of install. Hands down, one of the easiest modifications you will ever do to your car and you don't even need to get your hands dirty. That's why the site's just gonna call this a simple one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter and roughly 15 minutes or so to complete from start to finish. But now here is an AmericanMuscle customer to walk you through the job on their new edge.Man: Okay. So as you can see, these are the pieces that will come in the box when you order the Bama Performance tuner from AmericanMuscle. Comes with a USB cable which will be used to upload your custom tunes that are provided to you by Bama Performance and it comes with the cable that's specific to your vehicle. Now, if you have a Ford, like I do, then the tuner's gonna come ready for the Ford with a plugin for the Ford computer system. As you can see, when we go to install the Bama Tuner at the top, it's got two plugins. One of them is for an HDMI plug and the other one, that is a cable that's used by the programmers. I'm sure you've seen that before on your computer. And if you look under here, you can see where this is plugged in. There's a plug that's how everything gets programmed on your car, or detected, or reset and it just goes right on there like that, which this plug also comes in the box from AmericanMuscle. So once you put the custom tunes on it disappears. But as soon as you plug this in, it turns on. So what we do, okay? To set this is we go to Program Vehicle. Okay? And once you click Program Vehicle, it says street use notice, which we know about California laws. Then it says to turn the key on, which is simple. So what we do next, we get the key, get in the ignition, turn it forward, and then click Continue, which is the one that's lit up in red, and hit OK. Now it's processing. It might take a second. Now, you can see, it says pre-loaded tune support disabled. Okay. So all the pre-loaded ones, the generic ones, you can't get to, which they're pretty good. So I'm just gonna go with the 87 because it doesn't seem to use as much gas as the 91, 91 says race. So I'm clicking 87. It's processing the data. And now these are all the settings that are changed by Bama Performance. And if you know what you're doing, go ahead and you can alter them if you want, but I don't suggest it unless you really know what you're doing. And then click Approve. Okay? Click Continue. Turn key on, turn key off. Now it's off. Now it's gonna want me to turn it back on. Once they changed the cable to the car, everything changed. Now, here we go. Third time's a charm. And that's kind of been the scenario for me, is every time I get the 110BE error, I just have to do it two, three more times, and whatever that does, it secures your connection between the car and the unit. It might be because of the cable. I doubt it. It's brand new. I mean, this isn't space-age technology. I mean, this stuff shouldn't give you that kind of problems. I'm thinking it has something to do with the computer on my car and what it's telling this computer. And I read online that some guys had some problems because of either battery not being fully charged or because I just drove the car and the temperature sensors are giving it a temperature that I believe it's not happy with. So when it's showing that it's too hot, this thing just doesn't even bother trying to do that until you try it a few times and then finally figures out what the real temperature is. I think it has more to do with temperature than anything, but you can see here download time, downloading the tune. It's not very long. I mean, it's a very simple process of communication between the Bama Performance and your Ford vehicle, and just the amount of torque increase and the amount of horsepower that you get is unbelievable. Now, I was having problems where my entire transmission was vibrating because of...well, I thought it was torque converter. Everybody said torque converter, that's what happens. I had already changed change the training mount, which was bad, and the worst part of that was that it was an aftermarket training mount which do not work on the V6's. They have to be stock OEM training mounts. And once we changed that, it took a lot of vibration out except between 1,000 RPM, and 2,000 RPM, and now there's just a little bit of vibration left. But when it was shift into overdrive, the whole training would vibrate really bad suggesting that maybe the overdrive unit's bad. But as soon as I installed this tune, all of that went away and the shifting performance is greatly increased. You'll love the way that it shifts after you do this. It'll make you wanna put more horsepower into it. I mean, this motor already comes stock 195 horse. Doesn't take long to heat up to 250. And I don't know if you remember back in the '90s, that's what a stock V8 Mustang came. So if you can get a V6 with that much torque and that much horsepower.Justin: So wrapping things up, guys, if you are looking for an affordable custom tuning solution for your '99 to '04 V6 Mustang, be sure to check out the Bama X4 Tuner and Tunes right here at americanmuscle.com.
