    Review & Installation Video

Hey, Justin here with AmericanMuscle.com, and this is my brief look into the SR Performance cold air intake kit fitting the 3.6 and 3.9L motor found in all 99-04 V6 Mustangs. This budget friendly intake sports a very popular design when it comes to the Ne

Improves Horsepower. This SR Performance V6 Mustang Cold Air Intake kit completely replaces the restrictive factory air box and paper filter element in your 1999-2004 3.8L and 3.9L V6 Mustang with a high flow filter assembly for a noticeable increase in horsepower and throttle response while filtering out harmful power robbing dust particles. This V6 CAI pulls cooler denser air from inside the inner fender well to make more power that you can feel.

Reusable Filter. Included in this kit is a SR Performance High Flow reusable air filter. So there is no need to go out and buy a new filter every few thousand miles. Just clean the filter, re-oil it, save money and go!

Powder Coated Finish. The SR Performance Cold Air Intake will not only improve horsepower and acceleration, but it will also improve your Mustang's under hood appearance with a flat black powder coated finish. Now you can have the best of both worlds - performance and style.

Simple Install. The SR Performance Cold Air Intake is relatively easy to install with only basic hand tools needed. No extra modifications are required for the installation. See the video below for an overview of the installation process.

Application. The SR Performance Cold Air Intake is designed to fit the 1999-2004 3.8L and 3.9L V6 Mustangs.

Technical Note. The Mass Airflow Housing and Sensor are not included. This kit is designed to reuse the factory unit.

    Ask a Question

Do I have to tune a new air intake? Or is it just recommended?

    mynickname

    • This SR CAI does not require a tune for installation. However, with any Cold Air Intake, it's recommended to get a custom tune as it will give you maximum performance from the upgrade. Hope this helps!

How much hp would I expect combined with bama tuner and catted x pipe

    Alfredo

    • Hello! SR Performance reports an increase of 14 HP and 15 TQ. Unfortunately for an accurate assessment of how much power you would gain with the x pipe, we would need to know which one you were interested in.

I see the other SR performance intake is made of aluminum with a chrome finish. Is this one aluminum with the black finish, or is it plastic? Of course my concern here is the temperature difference.

    HenryVillani

    • The SR Performance Black Cold Air Intake (99-04 V6) will be a plastic construction.

How much HP does it add if you don’t use the tuner

    Anthonyg

    • With the SR cold air intake, you'll see roughly 5-10 HP and TQ without a tune.

I have a 65mm BBK throttle body, and a Sr black cai. The coupler is too small to slip on the throttle body do you have a coupler that fits?

    GaryA

    • The coupler included with the SR Performance Black Cold Air Intake will fit over a 65mm throttle body, however you will need to either use a silicone spray lubricant to lubricate the coupler prior to installation, soak the coupler in hot water, or a combination of the two to ease installation.

Great product, fairly easy to install. Now I have a nice growl under the hood and can see a bump in power I shift.

      5th gear problem

This product is a very sound product it has increased my power in 1st thru 4th but for some reason my 5th gear power has declined quite a bit. The sound is amazing and the torque is powerful. Love the product

Will work, just don't expect flawless installation

Granted I no longer work on my car like this very often, but thought after watching several videos it would go a bit smoother. Took my time and took about 2x longer than estimated. Just a couple tips, your car will likely have some unique features; my 2001 V6 is now 17 years old and all stock as purchased, yet my MASS was like a later model GT and electrical lines were routed a bit different such that the fit was much tighter at the intake. A slight application of grease greatly helps installation of the coupling hoses (might save you some blood) and installing a rubber or foam piece between the metal tubing and the strut tower will mitigate a stunning vibration sound when the compressor kicks in. You should probably just plan on replacing the vacuum line with one about an inch or so longer, my original reaches but is stretched and has deteriorated with age. Aside from that, the engine seems to run quieter, starts a little easier and idles much steadier. I did not expect to see significant performance improvement (hp) and I don't but it does seem to run better. Glad to have it installed.

      SR performance CAI

Took a little less than an afternoon since the connectors were too small that came in the back, so I had to spend $20 on a new one at a auto parts store. Also after installing there is a loud squeak that appears every now and then, but I'm sure it's from my lack of experience as this is my first car and my firs time modifying my car. Overall still worth the money, looks and sounds way better than the factory intake.

SR Performance Black Cold Air Intake

This cold air intake was a much needed addition to my 99 V6 Mustang. In 5th gear, I was loosing a lot of power with the stock intake. Not only did the intake resolve my 5th gear issue, but the addition air coming through the system provided a nice boost in HP. The only downfall was the lack of a new vacuum line which is not provided with the purchase. Ended up having to go to Advance auto and purchasing a fuel line (3/8) to suffice for the replacement part and force on the part. Other than that, I would definitely recommend the product.

Does not fit V6 Mustangs! Avoid!

This intake did not fit the car it claimed to support. I have a 2000 V6 Mustang and none of the parts fit within the engine bay. The vacuum line inlet was too small, the upper portion of the tube did not have enough clearance for the strut tower, and the coupling hose did not fit over the throttle body. I tried shaping the intake as best I could, and was able to get it in position, but it is so cheaply constructed that it did not seal properly, created huge vacuum leaks and just looked plain awful. This is intake is a total waste of money and I will never buy parts from this company ever again. I thought this was a cheap alternative to a KandN intake but I was wrong and regret it. The price of this intake is too good to be true and you get what you pay for. What a joke! American muscle, you should take this poor quality product down from your website!

      cool for the price

It sounds good, I love the growl and whistle when I get on it. Was not hard to install in my 1999 v6 mustang, took about 50 min due to wiggling it around the side of my engine bay. Can't beat the price.
