    Review & Installation Video

Hey, Justin here with AmericanMuscle.com, and this is my brief look into the SR Performance cold air intake kit fitting the 3.6 and 3.9L motor found in all 99-04 V6 Mustangs. This budget friendly intake sports a very popular design when it comes to the Ne

Improves Horsepower. This SR Performance V6 Mustang Cold Air Intake kit completely replaces the restrictive factory air box and paper filter element in your 1999-2004 3.8L and 3.9L V6 Mustang with a high flow filter assembly for a noticeable increase in horsepower and throttle response while filtering out harmful power robbing dust particles. This V6 CAI pulls cooler denser air from inside the inner fender well to make more power that you can feel.

Reusable Filter. Included in this kit is a SR Performance High Flow reusable air filter. So there is no need to go out and buy a new filter every few thousand miles. Just clean the filter, re-oil it, save money and go!

Powder Coated Finish. The SR Performance Cold Air Intake will not only improve horsepower and acceleration, but it will also improve your Mustang's under hood appearance with a flat black powder coated finish. Now you can have the best of both worlds - performance and style.

Simple Install. The SR Performance Cold Air Intake is relatively easy to install with only basic hand tools needed. No extra modifications are required for the installation. See the video below for an overview of the installation process.

Application. The SR Performance Cold Air Intake is designed to fit the 1999-2004 3.8L and 3.9L V6 Mustangs.

Technical Note. The Mass Airflow Housing and Sensor are not included. This kit is designed to reuse the factory unit.

    5 Top Rated Questions

Do I have to tune a new air intake? Or is it just recommended?

    • This SR CAI does not require a tune for installation. However, with any Cold Air Intake, it's recommended to get a custom tune as it will give you maximum performance from the upgrade. Hope this helps!

How much HP does it add if you don’t use the tuner

    • With the SR cold air intake, you'll see roughly 5-10 HP and TQ without a tune.

How much hp would I expect combined with bama tuner and catted x pipe

    • Hello! SR Performance reports an increase of 14 HP and 15 TQ. Unfortunately for an accurate assessment of how much power you would gain with the x pipe, we would need to know which one you were interested in.

I see the other SR performance intake is made of aluminum with a chrome finish. Is this one aluminum with the black finish, or is it plastic? Of course my concern here is the temperature difference.

    • The SR Performance Black Cold Air Intake (99-04 V6) will be a plastic construction.

Which would be better for getting the most cold air the aluminum one or the black one?

    • Both of the SR Performance Air Intakes provide the same amount of induction.

      More power better economy

For $50 it's a must. Some uneven spots in my acceleration have been ironed out, there is noticeably more power and torque and I'm even getting a little better gas mileage. This probably has nothing to do with the intake but since it went in, I've got better gas mileage

      Great for the price

The SR performance cold air intake put a little pep in my V6 mustang. The product was made with quality parts and arrived quickly. The installation was a little tricky due to space and fitment. The cold air intake does sit against the firewall at one spot but does not affect performance. The intake sound is great and you also gain a nice growl at the exhaust.

      Awesome

My SR performance air filter came in within a week . It was so easy puting it together and it took about 30 minutes to install it. Love the filter it sounds and performs smoother . Will definitely be ordering more parts from SR performance.

      Great for the price

If your on a budget it's a perfect product. The only problem with it is you have to extend a vacuum line but other then that its extremely easy to install

      Needs a vacuum line

Needs to include a new vacuum line. The one on the intake is bigger than the OE vacuum line. Other than that it's a straight forward and easy install.

      SR cold air intake

If you put the filter on first and slide it in to the fender well it works well that way. Also put the two holding studs on the car first instead of the holding bracket. Looks good and sounds great.

      WITHOUT BAMA TUNE REVIEW.

(Sound and horsepower review) Makes the car definitely a lot throatyer and louder, not a huge horsepower gain but definitely noticeable, has a super cool noise you”ll hear air getting sucked in everytime you tap the gas or shift gears unlike the factory stock. (INSTALLATION review) the coupler could hardly fit over the mass air flow sensor after putting a little soap around the edges and and pushing around it slid on 3 mins later, putting it in the engine was a lot of man handling but nothing that was impossible. This definitely takes a longer than said but be patient and it’ll go right. Was it worth it? Yes noise and sound with more horsepower than before

      the sound....

I installed with a screamin' demon coil pack and the sound of just a flowmaster 40 muffler and stock everything else makes my car sound so much better on acceleration and just idle alone. I do have huge complaints about this cai however. To install it was way more that it should have ever been. The coupler that came with the cai WOULD NOT fit over the mass airflow sensor to save my life the majority of the install was me breaking my fingers and doing everything i could think of to attempt to put the rubber coupler on over the sensor. another issue is that it does not exactly fit flush inside the actual engine bay which made me scrape paint from the engine bay onto the cai and vice versa so engine bay now does not look as good as it could. FINAL issue is that the vacuum hose that runs to the cai had to be replaced which did not cost that much but still there should be some kind of warning before buying that, "hey, the stock vacuum hose may not reach to this and you'll need to get an extended one." Would have been very nice considering that once i found this out i had to borrow a car and go buy one since mine was not safe to drive. Anyways, makes acceleration sound super throaty and very nice not too much kind of noise. can not wait to install actual exhaust system to compliment it.

A Little More Than What I Bargained For....

The product is great and looks good, the only trouble is trying to get it to fit. The fit is very tight in my 2002 V-6 and it took some manhandling to get it into place. It also took about twice as long as expected to install it; roughly two hours. There is an extra opening for another vacuum line that some Mustangs have and some that don't; mine did not have said line and it requires a plug. Unfortunately, the product does not ship with one. Other than the tight fit and lack of plug, the car definitely feels like it is taking in more air than it did with the stock air box on. It does what it's supposed to.
