    Review & Install Video

Justin from AmericanMuscle.com, we're here with Chris Thompson from Airaid. He stopped by the shop to tell us a little more about these great Airaid products. We're very familiar with Airaid; we use them on our project cars with great success. Chris, what can you tell us about Airaid that makes it so unique? "Everything we do is digitally designed. It's engineered to fit, it's engineered to work, it's engineered to work without any special tuning. Now, tuning is much, much better. You guys offer a lot of great choices in aftermarket tuning. It'll only enhance the performance of the Mustang. We design our intakes so there's no special gluing required, there's no cutting or hacking of the engine required. If somebody decided to put a stock intake back on, they don't have to go back to Ford to buy another part to put the piece back on. Every intake we do is digitally designed. It's all about the design of the airflow and the linear charge to the throttle body. We use the rotational molding not so much for the heat soaking, but for the shape of the tube we can come up with. By using the rotational molding, it allows us to really give the right shape and form to make sure the product works well." We're very excited—we've got our 2013 Mustang here, probably not even 10 miles on this thing yet, and we already have an Airaid intake on it. Tell us a little more about that. "This is awesome. We're really excited to be here today. This is the first Airaid intake on a 2013 Mustang. We're really excited to be here with you guys. As you can see it fits. We know for sure it fits. We believe we have a hit. We'll do a little bit more testing on it before we release it to the public, but that should happen anytime now." Now, you were telling me earlier, you're working with some legends in the Mustang world. "Well, we're excited about working with Parnelli Jones and his son PJ. Parnelli's been instrumental in helping us come along with the Boss 302 intakes we're trying to develop. Nobody knows the heritage of the Boss 302 better than Parnelli Jones. We worked with PJ on the side by side utility vehicles (Razors, Rhinos, and TRX's). We also sponsored him in the past on his endeavors in the American Le Mans Series, which he ran last year." Chris, thank you so much for educating us on your great Airaid products. And as always, you can find those great Airaid products right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Will this clear a MM Strut Tower Brace? It looks very tight in the pictures. Thanks.

        • Unfortunately, we have not yet test fit this in combination with the MM Strut Tower Brace and would be unable to verify fitment with it installed.

Will this fit on the BBK 73mm Throttle Body without alot of trouble?

        • The Airaid MXP Series Cold Air Intake should have no issues fitting a BBK 73mm Throttle Body. Silicone spray lubricant can be used to ease installation of the coupler over the throttle body if desired.

            Great CAI

I bought this CAI along with the Rev-X tuner. I love the way it looks and it fit perfectly without any issues. The instructions were easy to follow and acurate, but you really shouldn’t need them. Just make sure you leave all the clamps a little loose so you can make any slight adjustments to the box so that the screw will line up a bit easier.

            Not an easy assembly!

Overall a good product so far. The assembly of the mass air flow sensor to the box can be tricky! Also if you have larger throttle body be ready for a fight with the coupler and needing a larger hose clamp.

            Not great QA/QC from Airaid

Not sure about performance yet, not expecting much but should be better than my stock unit. The fit was ok but a pain. The instructions say to put in either the grummet or grummet plug for the temp sensor depending on whether you have the sensor or not. Well, the plug is nowhere close to big enough so I put in the grummet and the plug, which was fairly difficult but I got it in. Next issue was installing the MAF housing, looks like the holes were not drilled far enough for two of the holes and the size of the thread was wrong, had to manhandle it to fit...the other two bolt holes were perfect. Lastly, the bolt that is suppose to go into the fender to hold the filter housing is too big.. I found a way to deal with it but just not impressed. I wanted a non-oil filter which is why I went with Airaid...should have gone Steeda like my gut said to. It is good enough but not worth the price, that is for dang sure.

            Great Product/Look, but

We bought this to replace the stock intake in my 2004 Mustang GT, but I must emphasize how important it is to follow the directions they give you. If you try skipping ahead because you *think* you know how it should be installed, you could screw up like we did and have to take the entire thing apart over and over again. The installation was definitely a hassle. Seems like it took way too much manpower but after all was said and done, it looks amazing under the hood and you can surely notice a difference in the engines sound and performance. (Get yourself a tune afterwards, and you're looking at even more power gain).

            Bryant K. GT

All American muscle products in this engine. Can definitely tell the difference in performance. Acceleration and response is GREAT. Air raid intake along added with throttle, coil packs, plugs and alternator gives you the increase in horsepower and response to make your GT a true weekend cruiser. I was a Blackwood NJ resident now residing in Orlando FL. Thanks American muscle for great products and convenient and fast shipping products. Stay tuned for more modding...have a good one.

Looks great once installed but Airaid's instructions are not very clear. My friend had trouble with his and he had to get some extra parts. But for me we had to do a little modification to get it installed. Also gives your car a more clear growl to it.

            Nice cold air unit

Installed into my 01 GT. Took about an hour, fit on my 70mm throttle body without any issues. Already had a KandN filter, full bolt-ons and a tune, so I can't say I noticed a big difference in performance. But it looks nice...

            Nice Intake

I give a rating of 4 stars since the kit I received was missing the large clamp for the filter itself. Had to buy one at a regular hardware store, which they fortunately did carry. It seems like you should not have to go buy more parts to complete the job considering the nearly $250 cost of this CAI. Anyway, the overall fit is pretty good and the intake has a nice stock-like appearance compared to some other models. Be sure to install the filter when the instructions say to; otherwise you won't be able to fit it in the housing. Also, since I have a larger than stock throttle body, I found that I had to put the reducer coupler on the TB as a separate piece because I had to get my hands inside the reducer to stretch it in place (instructions have you install the large end of the reducer on the plastic tube first). I can't speak to any performance gains since this CAI kit was replacing an older fenderwell-style intake. I especially like being able to see the filter under the hood and not having to deal with any future oiling of the filter, and am overall very satisfied with this Airaid CAI.

            Airaid cold air intake

I purchased this due to my KandN FIPK mounting kit getting stripped out, bought it used a couple years ago. Overall the non oiled filters seem to be nicer and you can still wash them. I noticed the mounting areas for this kit to be better then the KandN. I can't say there was any change in performance but I would recommend this kit over the others any day including the cheap ones sold here and on Ebay.

Best cold air intake for your mustang I believe. Been driving with it for 2 months now. Very nice sound. Very nice look. Worth the money for sure. I have no doubt that this out performs any other cold air intake. Easy install and re usable filter. buy and you won't regret.

            Great Intake

I went with this intake cause I liked the heat shield. It was a pretty simple install that took about an hour, most of that time was simply trying to out one of the provided plugs into the hole *rolls eyes* besides that its great. Adds a nicer sound to my engine I definitely recommend.

Installed this in under an hour and look great under the hood. Not much of a performance gain but would still recommend. Looks a lot better then factory intake system and opens the door later for more power with a tune and bigger MAF.

Review from Airaid Cold Air Intake - Blue - SynthaMax Dry Filter (99-04 GT)

            Works well, looks nice.

Not much to say here- purchased this as I like cold air intakes, live in California so I needed one "emissions friendly" for the California smog stormtroopers. This Airaid fit the bill. Looks nice, fits well, easy to install, glad I could use my stock MAF. Be aware for Cali folks, you have to call Airaid to get the CARB EO sticker (AM, maybe something to let people know on the web page, as it can be assumed you ship that with the filter), and only the red filter comes with the CARB EO sticker. Why, you may ask, when all three filters are the exact same thing? Airaid told me they are working on getting the black and the blue CARB EO legal also, even though they admit the filters are all the same. That's not much of an answer. And I know the smog tech isn't going to know about that caveat, as long as he sees a sticker that's all he's going to care about. So I got the blue 'cause I liked the color. And I said I had the- never mind. Passed emissions just fine though.

            Eh

Before I upgraded to my 2000 GT, I owned a 2002 v6 and installed the SR Cold Air Intake in it. Just installed this Airaid in my GT today, and I'm not too impressed compared to the SR. The fitment was a little frustrating, you will definitely need an extra set of hands for the MAF housing. PCV valve also broke during install, top snapped right off while fitting the CAI and had to run out and buy a new one, so be sure to look out and listen for that. Was looking forward to the sucking and whistling sound that was previously on my v6 when I installed the SR Performance Intake, but this CAI is very quiet, which some may like better. Haven't noticed real MPG gains, slightly more get-up-and-go when I press the throttle, but not as big of a gain as I noticed when I installed the SR on my v6. I really like the efficiency of the filter and how it doesn't set in the wheel well versus the SR Intake; if I'd drive through a puddle, my car would sputter and I could almost hear it sucking up water. Overall, an okay product, I'd say you could get something just as good if not better for cheaper, however.
