Review & Installation Video

What's going on, guys? I'm Alex from americanmuscle.com. And this is my quick review and install of the K&N Series 63 AirCharger cold air intake fitting the 2015 and 2016 2.7-liter EcoBoost F-150. In this video, I'm gonna talk about the construction and materials used for this intake system as well as touching on the installation a little bit later in the video. But right off the bat, I'm gonna be giving this a very easy one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. You should have this on your truck in about one hour, tops. And this intake is gonna be for the F-150 owner that's looking to clean up their engine bay as well as adding a little bit more of horsepower, torque, and, even in some instances, improving their fuel consumption. Now, I do wanna note right off the bat that you should be expecting single to high single-digit numbers. But the noise, throttle response, as well as fuel consumption improvement are definitely gonna be there. Now, I do wanna note, because the F-150 EcoBoost platform has a speed density style mass airflow sensor, this is not going to require a custom tune. But down the road, if you're looking for some more power, I'd definitely suggest taking a look at it. Another great piece about this is that this is gonna be completely reusable. So down the road, if it gets dirty. You simply just need to wash and re-oil it, and you're good to go. Now, right off the bat, guys, the quality here is gonna be top notch. And this is something that we're all accustomed to from K&N based on the polyethylene tubing right here, their heavy-duty couplers and reducer as well as their million-mile warranty filter that's known to filter out all types of contaminants from your motor. So just to hit this home again, guys, one of the reasons why myself as well as many other consumers purchase the K&N system is because they're known for their reliability as well as having an oiled filter that can be rewashed and reused over time. So diving into the pricing here, guys, we're gonna see that this AirCharger system is gonna fall in the neighborhood of right around $250, which, in my opinion, you're getting a huge bang for the buck here based on K&N's engineering as well as knowing that other intake systems can easily tip the scales at around $400 to $500 based on their construction and materials used. Now, for the money, I can't stress it enough that you're definitely getting a huge bargain for this system based on K&N's reliability, their million-mile warranty, as well as knowing that you're gonna be increasing your throttle response, horsepower, and torque, and, even in some instances, pick up on fuel consumption. So touching on the installation, again, guys, like I had said in the beginning of the video, this is gonna be a very easy one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, and you should have this on your truck in about one to two hours with some basic hand tools like a socket set. And this is definitely another perk for me when looking at a cold air intake system for my own truck as you are not gonna need to purchase any other type of supporting modifications for this system like a handheld custom tune. Now, I will add that it might be something you may wanna take a look at down the road if you're looking to make some serious horsepower All right, guys, so just to wrap things up here, I really like this option from K&N, not only based on the fact that you're gonna increase your throttle response and even pick up a couple horsepower as well as some noise under the hood, but for the fact that this filter right here is gonna be reusable and re-washable over the years. So that's my quick review and install for the K&N Series 63 AirCharger cold air intake system for 2.7-liter EcoBoost F-150 right here at americanmuscle.com.

Improves Horsepower And Torque. Allow your turbocharged 2.7L EcoBoost F-150 to breathe easier by installing a K&N Series 63 AirCharger High Performance Cold Air Intake. The Series 63 AirCharger completely replaces your F-150's restrictive factory air box and paper filter element with a high flow K&N filter assembly and a free-flowing polyethylene intake tube. Power gains of 19 Horsepower and 34 ft-lb of Torque have been seen on 2.7L models. A K&N Series 63 Aircharger Intake is the perfect upgrade for those who are looking to increase the power and performance of their EcoBoost F-150 while still providing excellent air filtration.

No Tune Required. Unlike other Cold Air Intakes on the market for the 2.7L EcoBoost equipped F-150s, this K&N Series 63 CAI does not require a computer re-tune. The engineers at K&N really did their homework to improve your F-150's power using the factory tune.

Filters Out Harmful Contaminants. The supplied K&N Filter successfully filter's out harmful contaminants with it's unique layered design. K&N Air Filters are made up of layers of specially treated cotton gauze that are sandwiched between two epoxy-coated aluminum wire screens for durability. K&N uses a specially formulated grade of oil to treat the cotton gauze layers which causes a tackiness throughout the cotton's microscopic strands creating a powerful filtering media that ensures engine protection.

Washable, Reusable Filter. K&N designed their high flow air filters to be reusable. That means there is no need to buy a new filter every few thousand miles. You can just clean the filter, re-oil it, and save money with a K&N Filter Recharge Kit.

Straight Forward Installation. The K&N Series 63 Aircharger Cold Air Intake Kit is designed to install easily with just basic hand tools in about 90 minutes. No extra modifications or special tools are required for proper installation. All necessary parts and instructions are included.

Recommended Upgrade. Even though a re-tune is not required for operation, AmericanMuscle recommends a custom tune with a Handheld Tuner. By reprogramming the vehicles computer (ECU) to you will get the best possible power and performance increases from this K&N cold air intake.

Application. This K&N Series 63 Aircharger Cold Air Intake kit is specially designed to fit the 2015-2017 F-150 models equipped with the 2.7L EcoBoost engine.

Technical Note. This K&N Cold Air Intake is not legal for use in California or other states adopting California emission standards.

What is the difference between the factory and k n plastic hoses mounted to the air filter box?

KyleA

  • The K and N cold air intake piping is designed in such a way to provide an increase in torque and horsepower by the way it direct air into the turbocharger's, allowing for easier and faster spool up times.

I have a 2016 lincoln mkx that has the same 2.7 ecoboost engine will this intake fit?

OmarA

  • Hey Omar, though this intake may bolt to the throttle body, it is made to fit the engine bay of a mustang. So the tubing and where the filter sits is designed to fit in a space suited for a mustang and we would not be able to guarantee that it would fit.

If I were to install this 63 Aircharger Cold Air Intake system on my F150 , does this VOID the Factory warranty...?

Marc

  • Aftermarket parts can void your warranty, however, depending on your warranty, there may be exceptions to what may and may not be installed to retain the warranty. Unfortunately, we do have have the specific guidelines for your warranty, however, if you contact your Ford Store which the vehicle was purchased at, they should be able to clarify which components would and would not void your warranty.

    Great look and sound!

Installation was quite easy and it looks great under the hood. Perhaps not quite as flashy as some other ones but looks and performs well. Does seem to provide some additional boost and under harder acceleration you can hear it slightly (which I like). Would buy again, happy with it! Cheap and easy upgrade!

    Great bang for your buck

I bought this intake right before I tuned my 2.7 ecoboost. Definitely added to the throttle response, I did not gain too much power until I tuned the truck though. Install took about 10 minutes total, its as straight forward as it can be. Adds a nice touch under the hood too with the exposed filter. It stands out against all the black plastic.

    Nice addition

Can hear more air being sucked in for sure. Can notice some some acceleration improvements. I don't hear more engine noise like others say. I do have better gas mileage!!
