Race Car Growl. This free flowing BBK Performance Dual Exhaust Conversion kit for your 4.0-powered V6 will not only increase power, but with its modern "X" crossover pipe design it also adds a crisp raspy, race car growl to the sound of your exhaust.

Aluminized Steel Construction. The BBK X-pipe adapter kit features durable 2.5” diameter mandrel bent aluminized steel tubing, and features two brand new Hi-Flo Catalytic Converters. Kit contains catted x-pipe, driver side pipes, clamps, and instructions. Reuses he existing passenger side V6 exhaust pipe.

Application. This BBK True Dual Exhaust Conversion Kit is designed for use on the 2005 to 2009 V6 Mustangs in combination with an aftermarket or factory dual 2005-2009 GT axle-back exhaust system.

Installation Note. When buying a dual cat-back or axle-back exhaust kit for your 2005-2009 V6 Mustang, you will need to select the "2005+ Mustang 304 Stainless Steel Exhaust Hanger Kit" from the drop down option menu above to properly install your new exhaust.

Technical note: Must be used with a stock or aftermarket GT axle-back exhaust system! A template for cutting out the 2nd exhaust tip in the 05-09 V6 factory rear bumper is included.

Is this system a direct fit for any GT CATBACK exhaust? I realize it comes with the driver side over axle pipe, BUT, I am interested in coupling the hi-flow cats and x-pipe with the stainless steel GT Borla ATAK catback system, being I can replace the existing passenger side axle over with paired one in the Borla system.

What shorty headers should i get Pypes or the ceramic bbk tine headers? Which will work best for this kit?


  • Hi, When buying headers you will want to use the same brand headers and mid pipe to assure they bolt together with no problem, so in this case you will want to use BBK Shorty headers.

Can you use a GT500 axle-back exhaust with this conversion kit?


  • The BBK True Dual Exhaust Conversion Kit (05-09 V6) can be used in conjunction with a GT500 axle-back. The piping size of this and the GT500 exhaust will be 2.5" which will fit together.

would this fit a 2010 v6? im looking to convert to dual exhaust I was wondering if this x-pype would fit my 2010 since 05-09 v6 are also the same


  • Hi, unfortunately this BBK True Dual Exhaust Conversion Kit will not fit your 2010 V6 because BBK specifically designed this for the 05-09 generation and it wouldn't be a direct fit for your current set up.

    BBK True dual Exhaust kit nice product

    THE BBK True Dual Exhaust Conversion kits is a great purchase, excellent fit. It will be 3/4" short from the CATS end pipe to the X pipes. This is normal. the Coupler will correct the problem. Use a SUV or Truck jack stand this will help a great deal. Installation time will vary on the health and flexibility of installer.

    loud as heck

    I'll start with my particular setup. 2008 V6 manual, no CAI, stock headers, this product, and Pypes Violators axle backs (also sold through AM...i got the black ones and left a review there as well). If you are a daily driver you need to not make the same mistake as I did, and very carefully select your axle back. The violators created a drone over 100db loudness at highway speeds. I don't think they would have done that if the stock cats were still on. The setup sounded great on the city streets but once up to speed the drone was almost disorienting. I swapped axle back exhaust with a friend who had a stock '07 GT/CS. The GT stock mufflers are certainly a cut above the stock V6 sound but still pretty tame. Obviously doesn't sound as nice when accelerating compared to the Pypes but the drone on the highway is gone. So I'm sticking with GT axle backs for now until I am sure that something else will work with this setup and not cause hearing loss. I was told by the shop that the old midpipe was basically welded on to the headers, and that the install took some tweaking too. Axle backs aren't too hard to work with i replaced mine on the ground without a lift, but for the xpipe you might want to play it safe.

    Wakes up the V6

    I bought this kit and Borla Stingers axle back for my car. It sounds amazing, but not as nice as a V8 obviously. It took a mechanic about an hour and a half to install both of these parts.

    Still smiling

    I have a 2006 V6 and coupled this with the Bassani straight through mufflers. It is loud but when I step on the gas it is so awesome, the notes I'm getting are great. Not sure this is what I want for long road trips but crusing in town is great. It was a real task getting everything together I also spent a good 8 hours on this project. Most of the work was getting the old items off, very hard to get nuts loosen while on your back. Putting the new items on was pretty easy I had a pretty decent gap from the x pipe to the existing piping on the passenger side but the drivers side was flawless and easy to put together.

    Finally done after about 8 hours of trial and error on this exhaust under the car in my garage. I have never installed any type of exhaust and have basic mechanical skills. but let me tell you... when this new true dual exhaust is installed and paired with the magna-flow american thunder gt axelbacks, it will make your v6 into a mean racing machine. almost sounds like a v8 around 2000 rpms. loud exhaust but i really recommend it.

    LOVE IT!

    SOO LOUD! almost deafening above 3500 rpm! installed at the same time as new JBA headers and FRPP stinger mufflers and BAMA 89 tune. noticed a MASSIVE gain pull off the line. NO DRONE! nice DEEP rich note. couldnt be more happy! only thing that didnt work was that we discovered the CAT's that come with it are NOT CA SMOG LEGAL! you can reuse your old ones but need custom extensions made to fit the gap.

    rough install, amazing product!

    Since I bought my mustang, dual exhaust has been something I've wanted to do and when the internals of my stock catalytic converters broke loose, I figured it was the perfect time to do it. The fact that this true dual system came with a pair of high flow cats made it perfect for my situation since my stock ones needed to be replaced. I planned on doing the entire install in my driveway but rusted bolts between the cats and the manifolds caused too much trouble so I took it to a shop. They did it quickly and fairly cheap too so I would recommend taking it to a shop for the install unless you have a torch to get the manifold bolts red hot to remove them and are able to get that torch around the egr tube and past the heat shields. Other than that this product fits flawlessly and sounds even better. I went with Pypes pyle bomb axle backs and the sound compared to stock is extremely loud. I always get looks and compliments from gt drivers. People even ask if its a v8 it sounds so good! Overall I recommend this product to anyone who wants to really open up the sound of your v6

    I have to say, I was a intimidated at first to install the system myself. One mistake I made was I decided to remove the system one week before the new system arrived. Unfortunately I couldn't get one of the exhaust pipes off. So i cut it off and when I got the new system it required that pipe and I had to take it to a muffler shop to have it re welded. luckily it only cost me $25 so it was a very inexpensive mistake. Overall I think it's a great system it was easy to install and it sounds amazing.I paired it with the flowmaster Outlaw exhaust and it even sounds better than my wife's GT.

    Great sound, easy install

    Again installed on 08 4.0 with Xcharger. No issues with clearance, they send 5 clamps, so no need to worry about your rusted old one. Fit was good, bolts right in with no issues, though the O2 sensors are a pain. I installed them before the instructions said to, because it makes sense to tighten them off the car when you can work easily. Tough to do on your back but definitely possible. I paired them up with the shorty headers and some GT take-off's and they sound great. Makes my mustang sound as mean as she is.

    Great X-Pipe Upgrade !

    This X pipe is amazing! So much better than the stock exhaust flow its incredible. The X sound lets you hear that raspy tone when you punch it. I installed this myself and have 2 tips. 1 - Do yourself a favour and get the hanger kit with it 2 - Install the whole system before tightening down all the clamps. This will allow you to adjust the system and keep it level, if you tighten all the clamps as you go, by the axleback you will be compensating your angle and may cause you to have rub down by the pumpkin and control arms. The cats are great upgrade in this kit instead of the restrictive ones you have right now. Definitely recommend this product !

    Love it, great sound, great price.

    I had this kit installed on my 2005 V6. I originally needed a new y-pipe and cats. The OEM Ford parts would have cost $1,400. On top of that, my original passenger side exhaust pipe had been cut and modified by the previous owner, so I chose to redo my entire exhaust system from my headers to my exhaust tips instead. I paired this kit with: BBK Ceramic Tuned Length Shorty Headers (05-10 V6) Item #56100 Pypes Mid-Muffler Catback Exhaust Kit (05-10 GT) Item #20019 GT500/CS Rear Bumper Cover w/ Diffuser - Unpainted (05-09 All) Item #53674. Don't forget to buy the SR Performance Stainless Steel Exhaust Hanger Kit (05-10 All) Item #20021 for the driver side exhaust. You're V6 does NOT have these hangers. I didn't use the exhaust pipe from this kit because I installed the Pypes catback kit, but the pipe would have been a perfect fit. NOTE: This kit is designed for an axleback exhaust kit. I went with a catback exhaust kit for two reasons. 1) I needed a second exhaust pipe to replace the old, modified passenger side exhaust pipe. This kit comes with ONLY one exhaust pipe for the driver side. It is designed to reuse the original passenger side exhaust pipe. The OEM Ford pipe was priced at roughly $120. This made purchasing a catback exhaust kit about the same price as an axleback kit. 2) I specifically wanted the Pypes M-80 Bullet mid-mufflers. They are one of the only aftermarket mufflers for a V6 that, in my opinion, sound good at all times. They do not have a loud drone on the interstate that is sometimes heard from other kits like the Flowmaster American Thunder mufflers. These mufflers have a deeper tone and they are much throatier sounding. At the same time, they are louder, but not too loud. And, they are significantly cheaper than most other kits, but they yield great results and are of excellent quality. Overall, the shop only asked for $300 to test fit, paint, and install the new rear bumper, and they asked for $500 to install my new headers, cats, x-pipe, exhaust hangers, and catback exhaust. Had I only installed this kit, the shop had priced it at a maximum of $100. The $500 was for only installing the headers, but they said they would just install everything for that price as a packaged deal. The shop said all of the parts fit perfectly and installed easily. American Muscle had everything delivered to me quickly, and all of the packaging was superb. There was no doubt that all items would be undamaged and in perfect shape due to the generous amount of packaging material used inside of the shipping boxes. The new cats are great. They are high flow and allow much more exhaust flow compared to the original cats. This paired with all of the other mentioned parts has really opened up the sound of my V6. People have already been complimenting my new sound, and I often see people look at my car as soon as the exhaust revs up. There have been several times when people have asked if I have a GT. If you buy this kit and pair it with the right parts, you will not be disappointed. Take your time, research all of your parts, listen to V6 audio clips, and make sure to ask lots of questions. Once you make your decision and get your parts installed, you will have a huge smile on your face every time you fire up your Mustang.

    Good Dual Exhaust Kit

    Let me tell you, this dual exhaust is loud. I was running no muffler before this and now i have this with Pypes Violaters and its just as loud, maybe even louder. The kit fit great, you might just have trouble getting the o2 sensors out because it gets so hot there. I reused the head studs for the header because there was no reason to replace them. I was looking for a deep exhaust note. This is fairly deep until around 2800-3000 RPM. When you hit 3000 RPM's it gets very raspy. I have violaters, maybe if you get different mufflers like flowmasters or magnaflows, it will sound better up high. But down low it is fairly low and rumbly, sounds good. Great for a 6, i now get tire chirp gunning it from a dead stop without holding the brake. Overall, probably the best kit out there for power and volume!

    This is a great product. The install was very easy considering I have a garage lift and when I paired them with a rear section borla Atak mufflers this thing sounds MEAN and loud!!! Every mustang owner should have dual exhaust on their ride! Great fit and finish!
