Q & A

Ask a Question

I am having a problem with belt alignment ever since my dampener was replaced by Ford to eliminate a potential vibration. Big midrace. Long story short, I also replaced the belt with the Bando recommended by Kenne Bell. It turned out to be 1/16" wider than the spare I took off just in case and measured in spec at 114.56" . Ever since, the belt would slip one or two "teeth" off the AC compressor pulley. Never ever happened until recently. 73000 miles. So, at the advice of ford, I ordered the slitghy shorter Dura last belt at 114" and in total width spec of the original. Now the belt has slipped at much as 3 teeth (oops, may have mis loaded it changing the belt, but ALWAYS at least one when I put the 400 HP down. Ford feels they missed a spacer in the damper as some had it. They also want to replace the tensioner again for the 3rd time. It is at it's it upper range with the longer belt, but always has been. I am not confident drag racing this car with a moving belt or unknowns so simple to eliminate one by one, it surely prone to shred. Been there, not again I hope. I want to bite the bullet and order this tensioner, then put it back on ford to remove the damper to make sure they had it done right. I have already destroyed one Ford tensioner jumping on it, simply shredded into a mass of pot metal. No issues since. I feel I have nothing to lose to buy this item, install it and get it over with What do you think? Can AC Compressors develop play that may be causing this? Never been changed. Thanks. Need to take to action.

    Great Tension

I have a 1999 SVT Cobra and my old tensioner for some reason did not have a place to put in a socket to release the tension on the belt. I bought this one to replace the old one and release tension to replace the belt. It has a good fit and solved the problem completely. Definately a good product if your tensioner is not working very well

Tensioner fits like a charm, great price and Free Shipping! American Muscle is always free, not like places that say Free Shipping (if you spend so much) or you buy certain parts, or you pay for shipping in the price. prices are lower than most and still Free (as in Beer ) shipping. this is a part that is a pita to install, just because of where its located. in my case behind the super charger. once all the parts were out of the way, it just fit, no hammers drills saws or welders needed to install it. of you idler pulleys or tensioner are looking rusty, or you need to swap out the serpentine belt. Buy this, it will make your life easier and cheaper down the road

Sturdy solid replacement for O.E.M ford part

This part is exactly what I needed. My other tensioner was squealing badly and the bearing failed and also ripped my belt. This tensioner does exactly as advertised and has the proper tension to keep the belt in place and around all the other pulleys. Thanks

    Great Product

Perfect match for anyone looking to replace their belt tensioner. All of the holes line up perfectly, and there was no hassle to get it torqued down to spec. Before I replaced this, my engine was squealing like a pig, but the moment I turned my GT on after I replaced the pulley, it was back to its old purr. Install only took about 20 minutes, but just make sure that you know how the serpentine belt goes across all of the pulleys before you un-tension it. I recommend taking the serp. belt off of the alternator pulley (top pulley) when this gets replaced. It made it super easy.

    Good as new

This tensioner does its job well with the added benefit of that shiny, new appearance. My old belt was slipping and getting torn and wound around the shaft of the tensioner, and the pulley had separated from the bearings causing it to grind circles into the engine block. The new tensioner went right on without difficulty, and the new belt is no longer slipping. I look forward to my next purchase(s) from AM....but hopefully for performance, not repairs, in the future.
