Review & Install Video

Hey I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com and as you can see I have a number of different shift knob options, all from Modern Billet™, fitting the 2011 and newer Mustang, available in your choice of either black or white resin, or satin or chrome Billet aluminum. Modern Billet™ is a company that specializes in making a number of different styling accessories for your Mustang. The first two options the bright chrome option, and the slightly more subtle satin option, work very well on the interiors of 2011 and newer cars, both have been CNC’d from a single block of T6 Billet aluminum, and I can tell you that because of this the knobs will have a good weight to them. The second pair of knobs do have more of a retro vibe going on thanks to the old school black or white appearance, these two have been CNC’d from a single bloc of either black or white resin, which is going to make them slightly different to the Billet aluminum knobs, for one, they’re not going to be nearly as heavy as those aluminum knobs, which some people will like while others like myself prefer a knob with a little more weight to it. On the hand those resin knobs aren’t going to get nearly as hot during the summer months or as cold during the winter months. All 4 shift knob options do come with this shift boot retainer which obviously fills the void left by removing the stock shift knob and holds the stock shift boot into place making for a cleaner appearance. As for the install, can’t get much easier here, remove the stock shift knob first, install that shift boot retainer, then screw the new shift knob into place. Getting everything done should only take you about 15 minutes from start to finish. The shifter is oftentimes considered to be the centerpiece in any interior, so if you’re looking to make a visual statement with your shift then be sure to check out one of these 4 options from Modern Billet™ for your 6 speed, right here at AmericanMuscle.com

Nostalgic Styling. Add the cool vintage styling of the 60's to your modern manual pony with a classic ball style Shift Knob. This shift knob is completed in a bright chrome finish that features the 6-speed shift pattern in contrasting black, making it the ideal addition to your interior.

High Quality Materials. This retro inspired Shift Knob is CNC Machined from a solid block of 100% billet aluminum that features a triple plate chrome finish for superior durability and a cool classic look.

Simple Installation. Just unscrew your old stock shift knob off and screw the new knob on, it's like changing a light bulb. The knob includes a shift boot retainer.

Application. This Chrome Retro Style Shift Knob is designed to fit the 2011-2014 GT and V6 equipped with the MT-82 6-speed manual transmission or Mustangs with a 12mm x 1.25 thread pattern shift handle.

Hot and Cold?? For those of you with this, how is it to the touch when subjected to hot and cold temperatures? Being in the south, the interior gets over 100 degrees and in the winter can get in the teens.

  • Yes, it will adapt to weather. When the weather is hot,I will just throw a towel over the stick shift. It will cool it enough to hold and shift when driving. A minute or so it will be okay.

    Good upgrade from stock

Love it. Found it for a good price and I had to snag it. The oem shift knob is big and bulky. This one allows you to grip tighter when power shifting. Super easy install, clean look.

I ordered this from American muscle on a Monday and received it on Saturday. So A for AM. I then installed it in 10 minutes just with my hands. Fits perfectly. Looks a lot better than the factor plastic one. Only down side it when it gets super cold in the morning you'll need to blow the heater on it for a couple minutes or use a glove or else it will cause frostbite! Overall a good product!

Great bang for your dress up buck!!!

I got this for Christmas and I'm very impressed!!! I read a lot of reviews before giving the family a wish list, and I couldn't be happier. I am surprised that so may people had issues installing it. I saw mention of plastic pieces, but this item has none what so ever. The machined aluminum adaptor's black anodizing is easy to scratch, but use a wrench that fits good and don't over tighten and you will be fine. One of the first dress up pieces to be installed and I'm sure I made the right choice. If your thinking about this item, just go for it. You won't be disappointed!!!

Excellent appearance, 'Almost' a perfect fit.

I received my shift knob in about two days, so five stars to AM for there handling. it doesn't get much better then that. I spent less then ten minutes and a single open-end wrench to install the knob and it looks fantastic. SO much better then the cheesy plastic thing that ford put on the car. As for the 'Almost' The plastic spacer that goes under the knob has a little rattle to it. I was able to crank it down really tight and mostly eliminate the movement but due the end of the threads on the stick the ball wouldn't crank on any further so the spacer moves a little bit. I find this mostly irrelevant but worth the four instead of five stars in the fitment category. This product will of course last the lifetime of the car but I will say that I would buy it again and I would certainly recommend it to everyone. ~JEB

    Needed Bling

For some reason the plastic part of this just was a pain in my A... It never got to where I wanted it to be, using a Crescent wrench to screw the plastic part down, still I didn't get all the way down to boot up properly. So there is a 1/4 inch gap, I'll live with it, still looks great. I just got it close and backed off so it looked right, I love Chrome and this was needed..

    Great shift knob

I'd say the only downside to the knob is it gets extremely cold in the winter and I have to imagine it's going to be hot in the summer it's definitely worth it for the $22 I spent on it.

    Great Shift Knob

The hated the stock shift knob on my '13 GT and decided to replace it with this one. The chrome knob looks much better and feels better when shifting too. I am very happy with this knob.

    Great shift knob!

This is definitely a well made shift knob. The manufacturer used nothing but quality materials. The bang for your buck category got a 4 star instead of 5 because I think the price could have been a little cheaper. Also, I would like to add that the shift boot retainer that you can buy seperately for twenty bucks is not necessary for this knob. The shift boot retainer that came with this knob is the same thing as the one that is sold seperately. Don't know if all the shift knobs come like that or not, but American Muscle has agreed to accept the sold seperately boot retainer back, so thank you to them for being so customer friendly as always. This is a great product that really spices up the interior of your stang and I am so glad I ordered it. Again thank you to American Muscle for another great quality mod for my mustang! Could not be happier.

    Looks great

Shift knob looks great and feels good and provides better shifting than the stock knob. Fitting was confusing as no directions are included. I'm not very mechanical and was not sure of sequencing the spacers and washers etc.

    The knob compliments the interior.

The knob matches just about everything inside the car. (The air vents, radio, and the outline of the shift knob area.) So this chrome knob definitely compliments them and fits well with the car. If your looking for a new look instead of the factory, this is it.

    Bang for the buck

I feel that the shift knob could of been a little bigger or at least with a chrome shift boot. That would of topped it off but other than that it is easy to install and looks really nice.

Give that extra bling for the interior.

The shipping was fast as too was the delivery! Installation was a breeze... and the price is excellent. The chrome really stands out as opposed to the OEM shift knob and it also feels great when I shift! In addition, the chrome matches the interior chrome trim on my 5.0 premium. Thanks American Muscle for such a great product! :)

    Chrome looks great

Easy to install, left a little gap between the spacer and the ball, slid in a washer and filled the gap perfectly. Bought mine on sale so I can't complain about the price. Does feel better in the hand and is a big improvement over the hideous factory piece. Only downside is that it is very cold on the hand but I don't drive my GT in the winter anyhow.

Looks great. Improved feel and weight over stock. Only issue is that it's about the size of a golf ball.
