Paint

The actual paint in this kit is excellant. Works very well and adds a nice finish to any brake upgrade. The downfall is the equipment that comes with the paint. The tape is very cheap and sticks to nothing.

A Must for the Calipers!

This is a great affordable way to dress up the calipers! I suggest getting another brush as the one provided will not last through all 4 calipers if you like to put on additional coats. I still had some

Painting Do you pain right onto the Calipers while they are still attached to the rotor?

TommyTheSchmidt Year: 1996 Model: GT

Good Question (0) (0)
  • I wouldn't unless you mask everything well. That paint won't come off the rotor face easy. Do a good job with cleaning and prep and it should turn out looking pretty good and last a while. Painting on vs off the car depends on whether you'd like to spend time wrenching or masking

Rotor Painting Can this be used to paint the areas of rotors that are non brake pad contacted ?

45th Year: 2009 Model: GT

Question Resolved
Good Question (0) (0)
  • Absolutely, but cleaning is paramount - if there is any brake dust on the rotor hat (which is what I assume you're talking about), the paint will flake off within miles. You must, MUST, clean the ever-loving **** out of the rotor hat. Use brake cleaner and a bristle brush -- for starters.

BAckside painting How do you paint the backside of the caliper while its still on the rotors? Is there a special trick?

TommyTheSchmidt Year: 1996 Model: GT

Good Question (0) (0)
  • You will have to take the caliper off to clean and paint the backside right..My suggestion is to clean all area's that can be seen and paint those because truthfully no one but your service guy will see your backside area of your caliper anyway

    Paint

The actual paint in this kit is excellant. Works very well and adds a nice finish to any brake upgrade. The downfall is the equipment that comes with the paint. The tape is very cheap and sticks to nothing. Better off buying your own high quality tape. The other bad things is the brush that comes with the kit falls apart halfway through painting. The brush bristles stuck on the caliper and I had to dig them off. So, paint GREAT just get better tape and brush.

A little messy but looks great.

Other than the paint can being filled so high as to be impossible not to spill when stirring and the brush falling apart it was fairly easy and looks great. Use lots of masking tape, and newspapers as drop cloths to keep from painting the driveway. Great gloss finish, well worth the money, just plan on not using your car till the next day so it dries completely.

    Quick and easy

Great paint. Easy to work with. Cleaner did its job, but did not use the brush that came in the kit. Purchases a high quality, 1 in. Purdy brush. Takes about 25 mins. to do one caliper, only because you need 2 coats. Did these while installing a new set of wheels. Recomend if you are changing wheels , might as well, makes the new wheels look even cleaner, and wheels are off anyway

    Black Cali\'s

I have used the rattle can brake caliper paint before but this by far is the best. It will take you alot longer to do than spraying but you are able to pay more attention to detail with the brush. Make sure you clean everything off and take your time!

    Looks good, but time consuming

I had wanted to take my time painting my calipers. This involves removing all calipers and brackets.. which I now suggest you do not do unless you have experience and know you have the correct tools. (We couldn't get an angle on some, and other bolts were stuck so bad we broke tools) Somehow it turned out much harder than expected, and instead of removing all of them and sanding them down I decided to just follow the kit instructions and mask/paint while they are on the car. What ended up happening, I painted them in an afternoon, let them dry to the touch and put my wheels back on, and did touch ups as needed. The next morning I drove around a little bit, checked my calipers, and realized that the paint inside was not completely dry and was wrinkling. All in all, it's good paint, but if you're going to do it, take a weekend and do it right... unlike me. Take your time, figure out how to remove them all, removing the break line would make it easier, but not necessary. Use a coarse brush to get the dust off and sand them.. paint them neatly and GIVE THEM TIME TO DRY COMPLETELY. It still looks good, and doesn't have to be perfect for my purposes, although my impatience did kick me in the butt.
