Review & Install Video

Hey I'm Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and this is my brief look into the Flowmaster Outlaw series axle back, fitting all 2013 Mustang GTs, and GT500's. If you're looking for a system that will really allow your 5.0 or 5.8L to be heard, then this is it, Flowmaster calls this their most aggressive axle back available for the new V8's, thanks to the two Outlaw series straight through mufflers, that should really help uncork the exhaust flow. Like many other Flowmaster exhaust, the Outlaw series is constructed using durable 409 grade stainless steel, and does feature 2.5" mandrel bent tubing. The exhaust is also finished off in that sleek black finish, which is great at resisting corrosion. Finally, everything exits out these dual 4" tips embossed with that iconic Flowmaster logo. Installation on this axle back is very straightforward and should only take you about an hour in the driveway using basic hand tools. Now let's hear how Flowmaster's Outlaw series axle back sounds compared to our factory exhaust.

Super Aggressive Flowmaster Sound. Give your Coyote powered Mustang that unmistakable Flowmaster sound with the Outlaw Series Axle-Back Exhaust System from AmericanMuscle. This system improves exhaust flow using Flowmaster's race-oriented style Outlaw mufflers for that super, aggressive exhaust note your high powered Pony deserves.

Stainless Steel Construction. Constructed from durable 2.75" 16 gauge 409 stainless steel tubing for it's corrosion resistant properties, the Flowmaster Outlaw Axle-back features two race-oriented mufflers with massive 4.0" diameter polished stainless steel tips for impressive muscle car looks and sound. As an added bonus the tips are embossed with the "Flowmaster" logo for true custom styling.

Application. This Flowmaster Outlaw Series Axle-Back Exhaust System is designed to fit the 2013-2014 GT and BOSS Mustangs for both great looks and great sound. Reuses the factory clamps for installation.

I have a 2010 v6mustang I know the piping is 2.5 with stock but can I get a bigger pipe as well so it fits the 2.75 cause these sound so amazing and I really want to run them

Sessamen

  • Yes you are able to fabricate the exhaust to work together if you do not mind doing a little custom work, however as a heads up these will not sound the same on your V6 as they do on a Mustang GT.

Hi. In the customer reviews there are a lot of comments about the droning sound at approx 2000 revs. Do you have any recommendations to prevent / limit this? I am keen to buy this product but cautious about the droning.

FrankT

  • Hey Frank, As far as the outlaw system goes there is really no way to avoid the droning. this system is supposed to be as loud as loud gets. If you are looking for that same exhaust note but maybe not as loud i would look at the Flow master Pro series (18459). That system has the same design with a little more restriction in the resonator to produce a tone not as loud as the outlaw which is more of a straight through design.

I am installing the Flowmaster axle back on my 2013 GT will this increase my horsepower

WilburS

  • Unfortunately the Flowmaster Outlaw Series Axle-Back Exhaust will not add any additional horse power to the vehicle. This exhaust will allow the car to breathe easier making acceleration easier and throttle response.

Will these bolt up to a pypes catback exhaust 3in tubing? I would like to replace my pypes axleback mufflers for something louder and I'm wondering if these will bolt right up or would I need some adjustment to be done?

Gonzo

  • Hello! The Flowmaster Outlaw Series Axle-Back Exhaust will not bolt right up to the Pypes 3 in Tubing. They are designed to mount up with the factory exhaust and will likely require some modification to work with your Pypes Cat Back

Why are clamps not included in this kit?

Notduhmamma

  • The factory axle-back already has a clamp, and these Flowmaster Outlaw Series Axle-Back Exhaust will re-use those clamps since they are the same style clamp.

All in all very happy with how they sound. From the stock axel back to flow masters it sounds like a completely different car! There is a slight drone at 2k Rpms but other then that I'd say it's a great purchase and puts a big smile on my face anytime time I start it up or I'm on driving the car. Highly recommend these you won't be disappointed!

    Unbelievable!!!

These axle backs sound amazing. Music to my ears. The rumble during start up and acceleration is off the charts. I call them my new noise makers. Took about 1 1/2 hours in my driveway to install. Stock mufflers are a little difficult to remove from the rubber hangers, but a little lube will help out. There is a slight drone around 2k rpms. Nothing that's too difficult to handle. These axle backs crank up the sound of your V8 the way you love to crank up your favorite song. Highly recommend them.

My 2014 coyote coupled with the Flowmaster Outlaws is one of the meanest sounding engines I've ever listened to. It sounds like a totally different car. If you want aggressive you want outlaws.

    Get it

I've NEVER tackled anything like this before but installation videos seemed straight forward so I tried. Sounds great. Looks great. First couple days will be EXTREMELY load until carbon builds up. Use WD40 to remove old exhaust by spraying where old hangers come out of rubber mounts. Also, if it's still a little loud in the cabin, by some peel and seal for trunk and floor pan. Love my "new" mustang

    Amazing

For the money it's an amazing sound. I belong to a car Club and even they were shocked. I thought I would get a lot of cab noise but only a light hum. Outside the car, you know I'm there. Very easy to install. I sometimes just start my car just to hear the rumble. I love it.

    WOW! These things are loud!

At first, I was very skeptical. I looked at every single axle back that caught my eye, and believe me it was a hard decision, considering I was going off the reviews on here. Eventually I pulled the trigger on the Flowmaster Outlaw Series, and man, am I glad I did! They are loud (for only an axle back) and give your Stang that nice muscle car roar! If you're a fan of loud, GET THESE, don't hesitate. But be warned, there is a drone, mainly on the highway at 2k rpm, but besides that these are top notch! Like everyone else says, the longest part about the install is getting the stock axle back off, so once you get those off, it's pretty much smooth sailing!

    What a change...

I have a tune... JLT Air Kit, a Whiteline Trans Bushing and a Ford Racing short throw. In addition to this muffler I also added a new 3" MBRP H-Pipe. I tell ya what kids... If you want sound... this is it. I have been a muscle car owner for years. I still have my cats and resonators, but this was just surprisingly awesome! I am not sure I want to do headers and a cat delete because it just might be too much! Total install was $130 with the H-Pipe. Muffler alone would have been $65. Thanks to Detroit Muscle Speed Shop in Lakeland, FL for the fast and awesome job on the install. Everyone.. this is the muffler if you want your car to be noticed!

    Aggressive sound for less money

Easy install. 45 minutes to remove the stock mufflers and 15 minutes to install the new ones and adjust them. Aggressive sound at all rpm ranges. In my mind this should be the starting point for aftermarket mufflers otherwise you may as well leave the stock ones on there as the sound characteristics aren't different enough to justify the money you spend. You will get some drone at cruising speeds but most mufflers do. For the money these mufflers seem pretty hard to beat. I have used Magnaflow, Bassani, Pypes, Dynomax in the past and they all have their strengths and weaknesses. These Flowmasters seem as good as any of them for a little less money. They make a good jumping off point if you are unsure about how loud you want your car. In my mind these are about a 7 out of 10 on the loudness scale with 1 being stock and a full length exhaust upgrade with headers and non-catted x-pipe being a 10. They also appear to be fairly well made out of stainless. Give em' a try.

    Love the sound...

I could not have been happier with the sound of the Outlaws and the customer service provided by AM. After nearly a week straight of listening to exhaust on YouTube and other sites I made my decision on the Outlaws.. I will admit I was worried that it would not be the sound I had hoped for but oh my!!!! I could not believe the sound and the loudness of the Outlaws on my Boss 302!!! Contrary to what some might say, It was the perfect sound I was looking for!! Ofcourse, I went a little further by removing the resonators and WOW!!! It's been over 2 weeks since I have had them installed and I still giggle like a school girl hearing my Boss roar through the gears!! And as always, AM makes everything so easy and customer service is top notch!!!!

    Flowmaster Outlaw Axlebacks

I just put these on my 2013 Mustang GT and I love them. I was set on the Roush axlebacks and then heard these on YouTube and decided to go with the outlaws. I definitely recommend these mufflers to anyone that wants a loud but good sounding tone. I took off my OEM mufflers and started the car, and these mufflers have about the same volume but different tone. The only down side of these mufflers is the drone at 2k rpm. Its the worst drone ive ever heard so I stay away from 2k rpms. If your sensitive to drone, these are not for you. But other than that, these are awesome pipes. Also, they are VERY loud! I have my car completely stock except these mufflers and my cold start wakes up the neighborhood. You've been warned.

Exhaust is great, it takes longer to get the stock exhaust off one side then It does to put both outlaws on. Only thing I noticed is a decent drone at 2k rpm

Great Sound at a Great Price

This was a quick 30-40 minute install that completely changed the character of my '13 GT. As others have said, the clips online truly do not do the mufflers justice. It just a completely different sound than any other stang I have heard. This is my third mustang, with my '08 GT and '07 GT500 both having Flowmaster American Thunder mufflers. The Outlaws are hands down the best sounding of the three.

    Great Exhaust

I made a huge mistake when I bought this exhaust. American Muscle couldnt ship it to me in time for the same price, so I bought it from another supplier that could, and boy was that a mistake, as I got the wrong year model and ended up having to wait even longer. I'll always buy from AM even if I have a to wait a extra 2 days. The exhaust note is great, and around 2100 rpms there is a slight drone, but you shouldnt have bought a mustang if you dont like loud. The only issue I had with installation were those rubber exhaust hangers, but after a few youtube videos on doing these I quickly installed these myself, and I am not a clever man. 5 Stars from Flowmaster here!

Rolling Thunder, graet bolt on for the price!

This Exhaust is really really loud. When i first watched the video i wasn't sure if i wanted to try it. I finally gave in and let me say that i was really surprised on the loudness of this exhaust. I've only had it for two days and there is the drone evrybody seems to talk about but over all it sounds like a drag car. Take evryones advise aboud the WARNING and LOUDNESS. These series will make the inside of your car fall apart because it is super loud and the sound is completely different than the videos. Great product and i do recommend this for whoever wants to wake up a neighborhood.

    Sounds Amazing!

Had my car less then 24 hours before I installed it. Did it in about 1 1/2 in my driveway. Hardest part was removing the old mufflers from the hangers but with a little silicone spray lubricant and a wiggle they came right out. The outlaws bolted up in 5 min each. All worth the sound. Its amazing. I don't know how to describe it. Its loud, but at 65-80mph cruising, no to very minimal drone. The sound is an attention getter. A must have. Ordered them as soon. As they were in stock and were delivered in 2 days.

    Wow!!!!!

I have always had flowmasters on my mustangs. The Outlaws are the loudest axle back I've had to date. I'm waiting for spring weather to really test them ..Now it sounds like a muscle car. There is a drone at 2k. I've had the drone before you get used to it. The drone is the only negative. Which is quickly out weighed by the exhaust note from starting the car, idle , and acceleration puts the biggest grin on my face as if I was little kid..Ok as far as installation goes if your doing it yourself the hardest part is removing the stock mufflers..

Amazing is the first word that comes to mind. From the first bolt to the first crank of the key i is was impressed at the ease and finish of this flowmaster exhaust system! I would recommend this to consumers who only like to be noticed! The deep tones and earthquake like vibration coming from the rear of my stang has turned more heads than i can count. Well done flowmaster and american muscle for having made and supplied me this product..... cheers!
