Review & Install Video

I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and today I’m going to be taking a closer look at the Pypes Pype-Bomb Axle-Back Exhaust system for all 2005-2010 Mustang GTs. The first thing you’ll notice when taking a look at the Pypes kit is that there is no muffler incorporated into the design whatsoever. However, you get this massive 4 inch tip, which is resonated, and that’s going to help keep the excessive popping to a minimum. Since this is a straight through muffler delete system, you can expect maximum flow and an extremely aggressive exhaust note. We do actually have this kit installed on our 2007 bolt-on build up in conjunction with Pypes Off-Road X-Pipe, and let me tell you, it’s one of the loudest exhausts I’ve ever heard. The entire kit’s constructed from 100% 304 grade stainless steel and should bolt on easily in about an hour’s time using some basic hand tools. Now let’s hear how Pypes Pype-Bomb Axle-back sounds compared to our factory exhaust.

Aggressive Sound. The Pypes "Pype-Bomb" Axle-Back with its Muffler Delete design provides the most aggressive sound and free flowing exhaust possible with the stock cats in place to produce more power that you can feel and hear.

Resonator Tips. The engineers at Pypes designed their new muffler delete exhaust system with specially engineered tips which include resonators to eliminate that loud annoying popping noise that other muffler delete kits can cause.

Application. This Pype-Bomb Axle-Back exhaust system is designed to fit the the 2005 to 2010 GT and Shelby GT500 Mustangs for show quality looks and impressive sound. This axle-back is made to be a direct bolt on to the stock location without any modifications required.

Technical Note: Americanmuscle recommends adding the 2005+ Mustang 304 Stainless Steel Exhaust Hanger Kit from the drop down option above, to provide more strength, stability and a cleaner installed appearance. If you have a 2007 Mustang you may need the kit for correct installation.

What is the weight of this exhaust in comparison with the stock?

  • I installed them on my 2010 Mustang GT Premium and they are much lighter than the stock mufflers I replaced. They bolted up perfectly without any adjustment and sound mean and throaty. You will completely enjoy the change.

In terms of loudness tone, how do these compare to the Flowmaster Outlaws.

NEP

  • The Pypes Pipe-Bomb axle-back exhaust will not be as loud as the Flowmaster Outlaw axle-back exhaust. The Outlaw will be some of the loudest available for the 2005-2010 GT & GT500 model Mustangs whereas the Pipe-Bomb from Pypes is a more mid range sound.

I have the 2005-2010 pypes mid muffler duel exhaust conversion kit, would these axle backs be compatible with the kit of my car? If not what GT axle backs would?

    It's A Pype Bomb

I got these pype bombs to use for a dual exhaust conversion on my 4.0 coupled with pypes cut and clamp x pipe and a gt bumper. I had to run only one pipe bomb for a day due to the weather interrupting my install, and having only one pype bomb active was a lot. Once I had finished the whole installation I was extremely happy. The exhaust note is amazing. Its very loud even for the 4.0, while still keeping a great exhaust tone, which can be lost in pure noise which is never good. I can definitely feel an increase in hp which is always nice, especially when driving a manual. Overall very excited and pleased with pypes pype bombs. Thanks Pypes and thanks AM.

Loud, but not as loud as you might think.

I got these because my flowmasters would not work with a hitch. I was worried about how much louder my car would be with them. I was shocked when I started the car the first time. It was loud, but in some ways, it was QUIETER than it was with my American Thunders. Basically, its louder and more raw, but less deep and bassy. Which means it doesnt drone inside the car anywhere nearly as much. WHen cruising down the highway its MUCH quieter in the car with these than it was on the flowmaster american thunders. All in all, I love these and wish I would have just gone with these to begin with. Bang for the buck, I have a hard time understanding where $300 is justified for a straight pipe that has a VERY basic resonator for the tip. Quality is fine, its just expensive for what it is. That said, I would definitely buy them again.

The driver's side pipe is uneven compared to the passenger's side. I noticed another customer had the same results. Any recommendations?

    • Response from AmericanMuscle

If you loosen the mid-pipe and/or the flow tubes that this axle-back attaches to, you can maneuver them to match on both sides. Hope this helps!

    Pure Awesome.

I love my pype bombs. With the stock H pipe, they sound fantastic. Very Loud but not to the point where it's obnoxious. I'd recommend these to anyone looking to make their stang sound more aggressive.

I was hesitant to buy these at first and was tempted to purchase a full exhaust with cats and mid-pipes instead but opted to just start with these. It is hard to describe the difference but wow, the sound and difference in tone and volume in these simple axle-backs is just incredible. I always thought that the new GT500s were a bit disappointing with the stock sound of the exhaust, but in a simple 2 hours, that all changed. No need for clipping and they fit like a dream on the stock hangers. This was a very straight forward job and the majority of the time was devoted to prying the stock mufflers off. These are a must have for anyone looking for an instant boost in exhaust volume, tone, and feel. Kudos to Pypes and AM!

    Serious sound

Wow! What an incredible product. I was hesitant at first, trying to decide betweeen Mac Boom Tubes, or SLP Loud mouths. But I am more then happy with my decision to go with the Pypes. The sound is truly amazing, incredibly deep, no drone, no raspyness, and the best thing is none of that awful popping on decelerating. A true quality product, fit and finish looks great, nice 4inch tips, and when you step on it the sound is death defying. The sound at cruise is very comfortable as well. The only thing I recommend is the stainless steel mounts, the stock rubber ones have to much play and one of my pipes is half inch too low. One of the best exhaust setups Ive had!

    Installed on 2007 Convertible GT

It took awhile to decide on these but glad I did. The good: They look awesome and the fit is very good. They were easy to line up and install. (once I got the old ones off) The sound is perfect. I was worried they would be to loud based on some of the reviews here. This is not the case at all. They have a deep full sound with just the right amount of volume. Even the wife grins when she hers it, then she goes on how good it sounds. I am very pleased with look and the sound and would buy these again in a heart beat. The Bad: Pypes dose a horrible job of packaging these pipes. AM had to send me 3 sets before I received a set that did not have dimples and scratches all over them. (Thanks AM)I also had a rough time getting the clamps to tighten up enough and hold. This may be installer error but I did have trouble but finally got them to snug up where I wanted them. Bottom Line: They look great, sound awesome and I cant wait until spring to take the top down and get a ear full.

    Awesome sound -- Great look!

prompt delivery, although the box was rather beaten up...but the packing ensured the product was not impacted. I purchased it for my 2007 GT. I did not need the separate hanger kit - stock worked well. Installation was a snap, however I had a mechanic friend of mine install for me. I do however need to make some adjustments to get them to fit evenly. The sound difference is amazing! Sounds like a mustang was meant to sound - mean!. People can hear you coming with these for sure, so if you don't want to be noticed then you may want to get something quieter. They are not extremely loud, but much louder than stock. Thanks AM for getting these to me so quickly.

    2006 mustang

I got my pype bomb exhaust on friday it only took 4 days to get it, shipping was fast. that was the good part the bad part was that i had to cut up the driver side pipe and hangars to get it to fit like the passenger side. I tried to bend the hangers to get it to fit ,but it just wouldnt work so the hangars had to be cut off and welded back on ..not very happy bought that ,it was not just a bolt on kit like advertised ...it sounds ok was not anything like what it sounds like on the web sight .the sound quality was bad but i guess you get what u pay for.....

    Pype Bombs

Put these on 2 days ago, the sound quality is excellent compared to the stocks. Loud enough to turn heads but not obnoxiously loud. if your looking to get some noise out of your pony for a good price i would definitely go with these. Installation was very simple and straightforward took about an hour to do with the rear end of the car on jack stands. Couldnt be happier with these!

    Pretty Good

Well this exhaust is pretty good for my 08 v6 mustang with x pipe. They are loud, but not too loud. Inside the car is almost too loud, but you might be able to get used to it with the radio up. There is quite a bit of drone when accelerating, but when cruising, the drone isn't too bad. But you wont be forgetting they are there. Starts on cold mornings can be pretty loud. If you live in a neighborhood where people would get mad, you might consider another axle back. But overall this product is good for v6 mustangs. It went on no problem. The fit wasnt perfect, but its close. The car sounds simply amazing! Like no other v6 on the road. Loud and very aggressive. Very good product.

    Great Sound

Put these on my 05 Mustang GT Convertible. has FRPP Shorty Headersm Bassanni X pipe with factory cats, SCT Tune and JLT Cold Air. Wow, what a difference, they sound great, especially when you hit the gas, and very little to no drone, which is great. Easy to install and they look great too. Even had a Dallas Cop tell me they sounded good..

    Pype Bomb Axle Backs

This exhaust sounds amazing on my 2010 GT. Very aggressive and loud! These axle backs have a tuned, straight pipe, sound to them. The install was rather easy and they line up perfectly in the bumper cut outs. The videos of this exhaust do not do it credit. You have to hear in person. A+ product. I would recommend to anyone looking for a mean and loud sound.

    Pypes Bomb

I looked on American Muscle for months and did not know which exhuast to get, my friends keep telling me pype bomb, so i finally said whatever and ordered it. shipping was fast and me and a buddy installed it in his garage with a jack. didnt take to long with a extra set of hands. as soon as i started it up i was shocked it was such a awesome sound. i recommend this to any s197 mustang owner. it really lets your pony separate from the pack. you will not regret it, dont think about it just buy it. ive had it for alittle over a month and every time i start it, it gives me the same feeling the first day i started it up. you friends will hear you coming down the street.

    Great sound

This is a great kit, i do warn people though, if you live somewhere where people get mad about excessive noise or where cops will pull you over for loud exhaust then do not buy this kit. (Unless you are still running stock cats) I was at a light next to custom chopper and the guy was surprised that he was hearing my car take off and could not really hear his bike anymore. I love the pype bombs and i believe i have finished my exhaust, or at least until i can get long tubes.

Just installed these on my 2006 v6 with X-pipe and must say I am very impressed with how low the drown level is in the car. I thought it be much worse. It's not super loud at idle but when you give it gas these guys scream!
