Same as glove compartment wire? I've tried the trunk release buttons that mount in the glove box and have found that i have a wiring issue and neither have worked. does this splice into the same wire (under the passenger kick plate) or somewhere else?

  • It does splice into wiring harness inside passenger kick panel. What my bud and I had to do was attach a temporary wire to the wire on switch. We then ran the wire back through trunk and temporarily attached it to the trunk wire. This told us that it did indeed work and which wire to splice to inside kick panel. We then unattached the temporary wire and found the correct wire inside kick panel. Kind of confusing as there was more than one wire with the color code needed. Hope this helps. Dave

Is there a key power requirement Does this need the Key to be "on" to work, or does it work any time? It adds a security issue if it works with out the key in the car, on my Convertible

    Amazing Convenience

    August 08, 2011

This is an outstanding product! I have an aftermarket alarm system that came with the car when I got it that does not have a trunk release button on the key fob. This is really a bummer because I have to get out of the car and use the key anytime I want the trunk opened. This kit was extremely easy to install (about 40 minutes) and works perfectly. It is mounted in a place that makes it impossible to accidently push. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for a cheap and convenient way to open their trunk!

well made and easy to install. watch out on the wire call outs they stated to hook into the green wire (power wire for the outlet) it is wrong its the black wire. then when you hook into the trunk release over in the passenger side wire bundle its a lot of hunting and guessing ( just look at the trunk release it only has 2 wires running to it ) but all in all it was a very simple mod and now i can't stop pushing it. i just love buttons

    Trunk Release

    January 27, 2012

This little add on allows me to open my trunk without the wireless remote with ease. The instalation was a snap and everything fit perfectly. Great instructions. I have a covertable so when the top is down the only risk is having valuables locked in the trunk to where someone can access the truck by hitting this button. Locked my keys in the trunk one time, now I have the trunk release for my backup plan and then the top goes back up while away. It's a great addition.

Finally ... a trunk release inside the pony!

    December 07, 2011

Trunk Release works fine. Good instructions. I had a little problem finding the correct wire to connect to in the harness. Called support and they helped. Success. Would definately recommend this product.

    Terrific Value

Installed with my dad. Instructions were clear and simple, although installation is about 45 minutes. If we installed again we could do it in 20 minutes. My dad had crimpers which made the job easier. Great product!

ease of installing even for a 70 year old

    December 09, 2011

This is great can not under stand why Ford left it out. I have Emphysema, and Chronic obstructive pulmonar disease. (COPD) . And when i saw this center console trunk release kit i knew that i would have no problem installing. It took me a little longer, about 45 min. because of my breathing .Best part is the pre drilled access panel all the connectors, So that you don't have make up a panel and chase around for wire taps Went in easy and works great. I told my son and some buddies that have 2005 -09 about how great it works , no more going for keys to get into trunk .

    Fits and Works Great !

    December 01, 2012

Too many times I was in the garage with the car and the keys/remote were in the house. After being annoyed with Ford for not installing a trunk release I bought this little device. It fits great and wasn't difficult to install. As usual when doing something for the first time it takes a while to figure out how to remove interior trim etc. but it all goes back together easily. The kit includes terminals that splice into the car's wiring and then the kit wires just plug into the terminals. It's really pretty slick. A bit of advice, when routing the wire behind the AC panel it helps to tape the wire to a rod of some sort and push it through to the other side. The wire isn't stiff enough to support itself and will go everywhere but where you want it to go. This unit looks and performs like it was installed by the factory but one note: You need to splice into a white and pink wire but some 2008 & 2007 cars (like my own) may have wires of a different color. The paperwork included with the kit explains how to get through that problem, but fortunately my wiring harness had the correct color coding and so I can't say how much more difficult it could have been.

    Great add on

    October 04, 2012

Easy to install with the excellent step by step directions. The connectors just squeeze onto the wires and then plug in to the female ends on the red wires that run from the switch. Took me about 45 minutes to install and works great.
