- How to Install a Push Button Start Ignition Kit in your 2005-2010 Mustang
Hey everyone Justin with AmericanMuscle.com here checking out a part that’ll literally transform your ride with the push of a button. That’s right I’m talking about this push button ignition kit for all 2005-2010 Mustangs. This is the exact button used in the almighty Ford GT supercar, and now it can be used to fire up the engine in your ride for a very affordable price. As you can see the button features a brushed metal trim ring which really fits perfectly in the interior of your Mustang. Seems to be impressing a lot of you on the site as well, just about everyone mentioned how much they dug the cool factor of this kit. The button itself installs using the supplied harness and detailed instructions. Now the button takes place in your upper power outlet above the stock radio, so you will need to disassemble the dash slightly to get to the wiring. But there is no need for drilling or anything like that so it’s very straight forward and should take you about 2 hours. So if you’re looking to add a subtle touch of supercar styling and functionality to the interior of your ride, then you’ll definitely want to check out this push button ignition kit.

Kool Factor 10
The push button start is a very kool Mod to add to your pony. Instructions are very straight forward and easy to follow. Shouldn't take no longer than an hour to install. It kinda gives you that racecar feel.Helpful (0)

keyless??? Do you have to have the key in the ignition in order for the push button to work?
Yes, you have to have the key in the ignition in order to start the car. Just turn the key to the "on" position, and press the start button.
Is there a way to bypass the need to use a key?
There is a way to bypass the ignition lock, however, it can get very intuitive. I would not recommend bypassing the ignition, as anyone could easily start your vehicle, if they can get inside.
I have the push button start on my 06 gt for years but recently it struggles to start the car (similar to a weak battery). When I use the key, the car seems to fire up normally. Does this make sense, any ideas how to fix? Thanks for any help you can offer.
Hi,I'm sorry to hear you are having problems with your Push Button Start Ignition Kit sound like there could be a loose connection or maybe some corrosion on the connections.
2 questions...please help 1. if the car is being driven and something hits the button or a silly passenger decides to hit, will it turn the car off or is the key the only way to turn the car off?? 2. if the button is pressed twice. will it be like turning the car on AFTER its already on?
As to Q1, if someone hits the button, it will not turn off the engine. The key still has to be in the steering column and turned to the on position. As to Q2, Yes hitting the button after the car is started will be like trying to start the car again, Depending on the age of the car it will do one of two things, reengage the starter motor (Bad Thing) or Nothing at all. Some newer cars have a safety installed that prevents the starter from engaging once the engine is running. I have not tried this with the Mustang, so I do not know if that will happen. Best bet is to not hit the button again once the car is started.
Is there anyway to start it without having to out the key in?
No, this is not designed to start the vehicle without the key in the ignition.
Unfortunately a video is not currently available for the installation. We recommend checking the install guide provided: https://www.americanmuscle.com/sr-mustang-startbutton-0509-cust-install.html
Yes, splicing is required for installation.
The Modern Billet Push Button Start Ignition Kit will fit the automatic and manual transmission Mustangs from 05'-10'.
I'm sorry to hear about the misplaced install guide and the complications with the wiring. I'll provide the installation guide below: https://www.americanmuscle.com/frpp-push-button-ignition-install.html
We would recommend reverting your wiring to OEM, and then installing the Push Button Start Ignition Kit per the instructions for use of both the key and button in order to avoid issues.
No, the engine would shut off once the key is removed.
The Push Button Start Ignition Kit will require the key to be in the "On" position for radio and A/C operation. If the key is in the correct position and neither operate, one or more fuses may have popped during installation. We recommend checking the fuses, and verifying no wires were cut/nicked/damaged.
If both of the products are installed, it will still allow them to work. They would not cancel each other out.
