Description

Ultimate Upgrade. If you have a boosted or modified GT, Cobra, or Mach 1 but hate the "on-off" feel of a true single purpose race clutch, consider a SPEC Stage 2+. A unique design, the Stage 2+ blends the superior holding power of the Stage 3 with the street friendliness of the Stage 2, so you don't have to sacrifice street manners but still get a clutch that handles 669 ft-lb of torque without breaking a sweat.

Street And Strip. The SPEC Stage 2+ combines the holding capacity of the Stage 3 clutch with the streetability of the Stage 2, making this clutch perfect for weekend warriors who still want to spend time showing off their high horsepower pony on the street.

Premium Quality. To deliver great holding power without sacrificing driveability, the Stage 2+ features carbon semi-metallic material on one side of the disc with a Kevlar material on the other side. It also features a full face design for smooth engagement for great streetability. The Stage 2+ kit also includes a high clamp pressure plate, new throwout bearing, and an alignment tool for an easy installation.

great clutch, bad thow out bearing

this clutch is great. , holds up just fine. I would like to point out not to use the throw out bearing that spec supplies because it makes squeaky noises . Also, the 99 cobra does not come with a tr3650

on which clutch kits can you use your stock flywheel and on which kits you can not use the stock flywheel of course when you install the new clutch kit in you would have to resurface the flywheel, but which kits is it ok to do that and on which kits do you need to upgrade to a better or stroger material flywheel

  • Essentially, no matter what brand clutch you purchase, you want to try and stick with the same brand flywheel rather than to resurface the stock. That said, Spec and Ram require their matching flywheel due to how they are designed. Their clutch kits are machined with a specific tolerance so their flywheels match perfectly for smooth clutch engagement and durability. Resurfacing and reusing your stock flywheel won't mate up as accurately with your new performance clutch, ultimately causing rough engagement and can cause your clutch to wear out prematurely. As far as flywheel material, it all depends on your application, how much horsepower your pushing, etc... But as a general rule of thumb, if your Stang is putting down 350+ HP or you are using a Stage 2+ clutch or higher, I'd recommend a Billet Steel flywheel for strength and to avoid any warping. Please feel free to give us a call to go over what mods you have, what mods you plan to do and your ultimate goals so that we can determine which clutch and flywheel would be best for you! Hope this helps!

03 cobra with mild mods and is a daily driver

    October 30, 2010

Bought the spec 2+ clutch kit and flywheel also installed 3 piece adjustable clutch kit, along with Ford racing throwout and pilot bearing(I had read the reviews of the people who had purchased this item before me and they all said not to use the spec supplied throwout and pilot bearing and to go with the ones from ford racing). I have no complaints about this setup. No chatter or noise of any kind, smooth shifts and doesn't take the leg of a body builder to push the clutch pedal in. I use my car as a daily driver and I am very happy with it thus far. I would liked to have had more detailed instruction on the 3 piece adjustable clutch cable kit.

this clutch is great. , holds up just fine. I would like to point out not to use the throw out bearing that spec supplies because it makes squeaky noises . Also, the 99 cobra does not come with a tr3650 like they state here... it has a tremec t45.

    Don't Recommend!!

    July 09, 2012

I semi daily drive my 03 GT with bolt ons and i have had this clutch about two months now which the shop highly recommended, but i highly don't recommend. The pedal after this clutch is installed is so heavy its ridiculous! After putting 1,000 miles on this clutch i am considering biting the bullitt and spending the money to have a different clutch put in because the pain in my left knee everyday is not worth it!

    • Response from AmericanMuscle

The pedal could feel heavy if you haven't installed the clutch adjuster kit. Aftermarket clutches need an adjustable clutch cable for proper adjustment and can do wonders for clutch feel and pedal effort. It's a good idea to upgrade the plastic stock quadrant to a high quality, stronger billet and use a firewall adjuster for easy adjustments. I'd highly recommend you swap those out before you go through the trouble of installing yet another clutch.

    October 26, 2010

Had the clutch installed at a performance shop at 86000 miles throwout bearing started making noise almost 3 weeks later... embarrasing but due to other reviews i kinda expected it at 110 000 miles the whole clutch came apart now i have to buy a new one my mechanics pretty much told me "ummm sometimes you just get a defective part" FML

    April 11, 2012

Overall the clutch grabs good and can take alot of abuse.. The bad was the throwout bearing it squeaks like no other.. I would recommend buying a ford racing heavy duty throwout bearing.. Overall the clutch is worth it.. p.s. I cold have done it at home my self but don't have the right tools..

    Good so Far

    March 09, 2012

Replaced my Spec 2 to this Spec 2+ and it feels good. Still in the breaking in stage but it feels very solid and responsive. Bought the Ford racing bearings because specs ones are junk. Great item

    Awesome clutch for the Cobra!

    September 29, 2011

My 03 Cobra responds very well to this clutch, it engages very smoothly and is very cooperative (it's my daily driver). When you want to be aggressive, it grabs quick and hangs on. I am very happy with my first upgrade for my Cobra.
