    Review & Installation Video

I’m Dave from AmericanMuscle.com and today I have a clutch made for us by a well-known stock and performance clutch manufacturer, Exedy. And this one is the Mach 350 Stage 1 Clutch fitting the 96-04 GTs. The Mach 350 Stage 1 Clutch is sold exclusively at AmericanMuscle.com and is designed to hold more horse power and torque then your slippery factory clutch; in fact it’s a great upgrade from your factory clutch. The quality of this product comes from the fact that unlike other aftermarket clutch manufacturers Exedy makes there’s from scratch; this is not a modified OE part, this is made from high strength ductal steel and is guaranteed to be durable and reliable. And again, this is not an OE pressure plate that has been modified and painted. Combine this with the special friction special friction material on the clutch disc you are going to get a strong and reliable clutch that feels like stock but out performs it. The center of this clutch features a high torque spring that’s going to help absorb and deflect high levels of torque under hard driving; it’s going to help alleviate some of the stress on the driveline, the clutch, and the driver. Now that high torque spring is also going to work great under high RPM clutch engagement to absorb some of that torque and help keep the clutch intact and give you consistent performance from gear to gear. This clutch is designed specifically to handle the strength and bite required for a mustang and Exedy has built and tested this clutch to make sure it acts like a stock, but with loads more power and amazing performance. That’s part of what makes this clutch perfect for the daily driver, or the weekend cruiser or even the weekend racer. The Mach 350 Stage 1 by Exedy won’t blow apart on you and it’s designed to hold the horsepower and torque of the Mustang. Also this part is SFI certified so you can have more confidence it is construction and performance, it’s going to hold up no matter what you use it for or how hard you drive it. Installing this part is a little more involved then your typical bolt on, but it can be done at home, just know that before you get started you do need to remove the exhaust and drop the transmission before you get to your clutch and flywheel bolts. It is possible at home but it’s going to take you about 4 hours to get completed, so if you are not up for the challenge I do recommend you bring it down to your local shop. Whether you are looking to replace a worn out stock clutch or you need a upgrade in holding power since your last round of mods, the Exedy Mach 350 Stage 1 Clutch is a great choice and sold exclusively at AmericanMuscle.com for the 96-04 Mustang GTs.

Ideal Replacement. If you drive your Mustang like it's meant to be driven, it's easy to burn out your weak stock clutch. If you're starting to feel your Mustang's clutch slipping or are getting that unmistakeable burning clutch smell, an Exedy Mach 350 Stage 1 clutch is an affordable, upgraded OE style replacement that will fit your budget and your driving style.

Great for Daily Drivers. The Exedy Mach 350 Stage 1 clutch combines an organic compound disc with a high clamp pressure plate that delivers superior durability with stock-like driveability. The Exedy Mach 350 Stage 1 clutch is the perfect clutch for the street-driven, mildly modded, daily driven Mustang. Exedy's 350 clutch firms up your pedal for a sporty feel without the on-off characteristics of a true race clutch and is good to 430 ft-lbs of torque at the Rear Wheels.

Premium Quality. The Exedy Mach 350 Stage 1 clutch is designed to offer the durability of an upgraded performance clutch with the main focus on keeping the great street driveability of a stock unit. All of Exedy's discs feature spring center dampers to reduce drivetrain shock.

Application. This Exedy Mach 350 Stage 1 Clutch is designed for the Late 2001-2004 GT, 1999-2004 Cobra, 2001 Bullitt, and 2003-2004 Mach 1 with the T-45, TR-3650, or T-56 transmission with a 10 spline input shaft.

Do Mach 1's clutches use fuilds or no?

    BrianZ

    • A Mustang Mach1 would use a cable driven clutch, so no fluids are used in the system.

I purchased this clutch back in November 2014 was wondering if there was any warranty on it. recently I have been experiencing a chirping noise and a mechanic said that the throwout bearing is rubbing on the pressure plate and I was hoping I could get some help on a replacement kit thanks Bill

    whopper

    • The chirping noise is usually a bad throwout bearing. Check the throwout bearing guide tube for wear while you have the trans out. Proper clutch adjustment will keep the throwout bearing from constantly riding on the pressure plate fingers.

I'm looking for a clutch that will have the same pedal feel as I currently do now. It's a little on the stiff side but I like the pedal stiff. Is this a good option or should I go with the Mach 400 Stage 2?

    Jordan

    • It really depends on how much power your making, i put this exact clutch on my GT with 350 wheel hp and the peddle was no stiffer than it already was. I also got wheel spin on my 4th gear shift at 90mph rather than clutch slip. So if your looking to replace your stock clutch and want no difference in engagement this is the one i would go with.

      Exedy Mach 350

Just put this clutch kit in my 99 GT, which is mostly stock. Within the first hundred miles of breaking it in it felt totally different from when I first set off, and it is really great. Nice and light clutch pedal effort and it has great bite without losing good modulation. You can still do a nice easy street start with no drama whatsoever, or burn the tires at the light no problem, and everything in between. Great clutch for mostly stock engines and I imagine has plenty of room to grow if you have more power. AM is asking me how long it took me to install and doesn't offer an option longer than a "weekend". You could argue that my actual working time could be compressed into a weekend but I had issues getting my flywheel resurfaced that ate up a few weeks and I still beat my head against the wall with the starter and the top two bellhousing bolts. But hey, that's the 4.6 way.

Exedy mach 350 stage one clutch

I had this installed by a garage ..a little chater during break in .but smoothed out nicely during break in ...the only reason I gave it a 4 star because you have to purchase a performance throw out bearing ..the one that comes with it is light weight like the stock one ...and also when you buy this clutch it comes with a roller pilot bushing but it suggests you buy the performance pilot bushing but it comes with one so no need to purchase the suggested one

      Clutch vibration

So after installation of clutch I noticed a really bad vibration on the clutch might be out of balance also when I press on the clutch pedal and the TOB contact the fingers of the pressure plate vibration of the pedal is really noticeable the clutch was installed with resurfaced flywheel, Ford TOB and pilot bearing, new clutch fork from ford, new cable as well and new transmission fork ball stud still trying to get a new clutch replacement and I thing probably the turn around would take about 3 weeks they want a shop stating on writing saying that the clutch is defective.

      Happy Customer

Shipping was fast, clutch install was smooth. Once installed I didn’t noticed to much difference compared stock other than slightly firmer and more crisp peddle feel. I liked the stock clutch and really like the Exedy Stage 1 clutch. I was worried that it would be too firm since I have a sensitive knee but the stage 1 is perfect.

      Amazing clutch

Heads up, if you get a new ford flywheel you will need new bolts for the pressure plate, the fit was spot on and the clutch feels firmer than the stock one i had. After the break in period i’ll see how good this clutch really is.

      Exedy Clutch Set

Installed fine, time will tell of the performance of the clutch, should have followed the other reviews, the throwout bearing is noisy. Exedy should provide a more quality bearing, you should not have to spend more money on a additional bearing, hopefully we won't have to tear it back apart to swap out the throwout bearing.
