    Review & Install Video

Hey, what's going on, guys? Adam here with AmericanMuscle.com. Today I'm bringing you a detailed overview of the Ford Racing Performance throwout bearing fitting all '79 to '04 V8 Mustangs. In this video, I'll be touching on what exactly a throwout bearing is, what it does, when it may be a good time to pick up a new one like this one here from Ford Racing, what makes this one better than your stock bearing, and I'll even do an overview of the installation which, by the way, will get a full three out three on the wrenches on the difficulty meter simply because you will have to drop the transmission fully out of the vehicle just to get the job done correctly. So let's jump right into it. So, the Ford Racing Performance throwout bearing is going to be for the '79 to '04 V8 Mustang owner out there looking to switch out their throwout bearing because they're having difficulty engaging their clutch in a manual transmission or maybe hearing that dreaded squealing noise coming from the tranny. It's time to upgrade over the stock. So, in a nutshell, a throwout bearing is really the whole heart of the operation with clutch engagement. When you press your pedal in the throwout bearing inside the clutch Ford, it presses in the pressure plate's fingers, disengaging the clutch, allowing you to change gears. You'll know it's time switch out your stock of throwout bearing with an after-market one like the Ford Racing Performance throwout bearing when you're having trouble getting into gear, you feel like you're not fully engaging properly, or when you hear the squealing noise coming from the transmission letting you know your throwout bearing is going. So maybe your throwout bearing isn't bad just yet, but you're taking your transmission out to swap out your clutch and flywheel. Now if your transmission is coming out, no matter what the job is, it's probably a good time to take care of the throwout bearing while you have it out. This way you won't have to wait for it to go bad and drop the transmission all over again. Now it's not a hard job, it's just a time-consuming one that takes time from start to finish and you don't want to go through that twice if you don't have to. So this Performance throwout bearing is from Ford Racing, one of the most trusted names in performance parts for any generation of Mustang. This one here is a heavy-duty self-centering bearing design with a 1.063-inch input shaft diameter. It's built to last longer than most after-market options on the market. If you're looking for a reliable throwout bearing, this is definitely the way to go. But don't take it from me. Take it from our customers who have posted testimonials on the product page at americanmuscle.com. So price wise, for this particular option expect to be spending just about $50 which in my opinion is definitely an affordable way to replace a stock worn out throwout bearing with a new upgraded one from Ford Racing, or if you're just dropping transmission to replace clutch and flywheel and you want to get this out of the way. With that said, it's definitely an affordable price and a reliable one at that. So installation wise, like I said, this one is not a hard swap to do. The hardest part is dropping the transmission and getting everything out of the way to do so. With that said, you will be testing the toolbox for this one. You need a full set of tolls to get the job done. Definitely give this one a three out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, no shame in handing this one over to the professionals to get it done properly. Just to quickly wrap things up, guys, if you are the owner of a '79 to '04 V8 Mustang with a manual transmission installed and you're having trouble engaging your clutch or if you're hearing that dreaded squealing noise coming from your transmission, it may be time to pick up the Ford Racing Performance throwout bearing which is, of course, available right here at AmericanMuscle.com

Should i get this throwout bearing or stick with the clutch kit one? I was checking out the Exedy Mach 600 Stage 4 Clutch kit and my question to you is should I buy the ford racing performance throwout bearing or stick with the one provided in the Exedy Mach 600 stage 4 clutch kit? What is your recommendation?

    • Buy this bearing. The ones in the kit tend to premature and squeal after time. I made this mistake too many times to save a couple bucks but it ends up costing more in the long wrong. Hope this helps. Good luck!

about a month ago i bought a exedy stage 2 clutch and changed all the bearings , fly wheel and clutch and pivot stud but i left the original clutch fork and i changed the clutch cable to a maximum motorsports clutch cable. But for some reason when i take my foot off the pedal (in neutral or in gear) my clutch sounds like a bird chirping and the clutch pedal rattles like crazy especially when i give it gas. My question is what do i need to change , the clutch fork ? or The throwout bearing ? please i need help here. Thank you

    • I would definitely recommend getting that to a mechanic ASAP! Sounds like an issue that may have been called by improper install on the flywheel or throwout bearing.

is this the same bearing that comes with the ford performance clutch kit? seems everyone says don't use the kit bearing but not sure if it refers to the ford kit as well. Thanks!

    • This would be the throwout bearing that would be included in the Ford Performance Performance Clutch .

I put this bearing in when and now it rattles at idle. Is this going to wear out faster now?

    • There should be no rattle at idle, there may have been an install error when the throwout bearing was installed.

      Extremely excited, and now disappointed.

I was very excited to receive this part due to the throwout bearing going out on my 2003 Cobra like they love to do, after installing it I noticed right away that it fixed my famous squeak at idle in neutral, I drove it for about 2 months on and off and sadly, the squeak is now back worse than ever. Oh well worth a shot at least.

      OEM quality as expected

I am doing a clutch job and everything else. But right before my clutch went out the TB squalled super loud there was barely any baring left and this fixed it perfectly no issues.

      Great Product

I had to change my throwout bearing in my 2001 gt after it fried randomly one day while driving. Getting the throwout bearing onto the clutch fork, and the reassembly went smooth as one could ask for. The process is definitely 4 wrenches and 4 hours is not enough time to really do it, unless you're the original owner of your mustang, expect problems with your car. For example, the owner of my car before me put jb weld on the threads of the driveshaft to axle bolts, which nearly destroyed my driveshaft and rear end. I want to emphasize this is a great quality product that is easy to install, but plan on more than 4 hours unless you have substantial mechanical knowledge and a properly pieced together stang.

      FRPP TOB

I bought an Exedy Mach 350 clutch kit and followed the wisdom of the internet gods to marvel at the pilot bearing and TOB that are provided, and then promptly throw them in the trash and put Ford bearings in. Have you ever taken the starter out of a 4.6 mustang before? Have you ever dealt with the top two bellhousing bolts AND the little bracket that holds the O2 sensor plugs? Let's just say those 2 aspects of this job are worth the $60 for the Ford bearings so you don't have to do it all over again. The new Ford TOB has been working flawlessly for me thus far in my car and in my other mustang, which I changed the clutch in years ago. Get the Ford TOB!

      Clutch release bearing

I've been using this bearing for years and each clutch swap. Had a certified shop install a new clutch to replace my old 11" SPEC Kevlar clutch and flywheel insert, but he mucked it up by failing to lubricate the release, pilot bearings and the fork!!!!. Needless to say I am now the proud owner of a paper weight, and of course another Ford Performance Throwout Bearing. LOL. Some things Ford you just have to do yourself.

      Worth the Buy!

Any owner of a Newedge Mustang knows they can go through throwout bearings like water. After the installation of the Ford Performance bearing, noise is non-existent. Worth spending an extra $10. *Side Note* It is compatable with a V6 even though it doesn’t specify.
