- Spec Clutch Installation Guide
Hey, what's going on, guys? Adam here with AmericanMuscle.com. Today I'm bringing you a detailed overview of the Ford Racing Performance throwout bearing fitting all '79 to '04 V8 Mustangs. In this video, I'll be touching on what exactly a throwout bearing is, what it does, when it may be a good time to pick up a new one like this one here from Ford Racing, what makes this one better than your stock bearing, and I'll even do an overview of the installation which, by the way, will get a full three out three on the wrenches on the difficulty meter simply because you will have to drop the transmission fully out of the vehicle just to get the job done correctly. So let's jump right into it.So, the Ford Racing Performance throwout bearing is going to be for the '79 to '04 V8 Mustang owner out there looking to switch out their throwout bearing because they're having difficulty engaging their clutch in a manual transmission or maybe hearing that dreaded squealing noise coming from the tranny. It's time to upgrade over the stock. So, in a nutshell, a throwout bearing is really the whole heart of the operation with clutch engagement. When you press your pedal in the throwout bearing inside the clutch Ford, it presses in the pressure plate's fingers, disengaging the clutch, allowing you to change gears. You'll know it's time switch out your stock of throwout bearing with an after-market one like the Ford Racing Performance throwout bearing when you're having trouble getting into gear, you feel like you're not fully engaging properly, or when you hear the squealing noise coming from the transmission letting you know your throwout bearing is going. So maybe your throwout bearing isn't bad just yet, but you're taking your transmission out to swap out your clutch and flywheel. Now if your transmission is coming out, no matter what the job is, it's probably a good time to take care of the throwout bearing while you have it out. This way you won't have to wait for it to go bad and drop the transmission all over again. Now it's not a hard job, it's just a time-consuming one that takes time from start to finish and you don't want to go through that twice if you don't have to.So this Performance throwout bearing is from Ford Racing, one of the most trusted names in performance parts for any generation of Mustang. This one here is a heavy-duty self-centering bearing design with a 1.063-inch input shaft diameter. It's built to last longer than most after-market options on the market. If you're looking for a reliable throwout bearing, this is definitely the way to go. But don't take it from me. Take it from our customers who have posted testimonials on the product page at americanmuscle.com. So price wise, for this particular option expect to be spending just about $50 which in my opinion is definitely an affordable way to replace a stock worn out throwout bearing with a new upgraded one from Ford Racing, or if you're just dropping transmission to replace clutch and flywheel and you want to get this out of the way. With that said, it's definitely an affordable price and a reliable one at that.So installation wise, like I said, this one is not a hard swap to do. The hardest part is dropping the transmission and getting everything out of the way to do so. With that said, you will be testing the toolbox for this one. You need a full set of tolls to get the job done. Definitely give this one a three out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, no shame in handing this one over to the professionals to get it done properly. Just to quickly wrap things up, guys, if you are the owner of a '79 to '04 V8 Mustang with a manual transmission installed and you're having trouble engaging your clutch or if you're hearing that dreaded squealing noise coming from your transmission, it may be time to pick up the Ford Racing Performance throwout bearing which is, of course, available right here at AmericanMuscle.com

Reasons Why This Baby Blows!
Look Ladys and Gents, I’ve replaced about 4 of these puppies and because I’m a big ole dumb dumb I couldn’t figure out why they went bad a lot. This is the best throw out bearing you can buy for your mustang(as far as my Pony is concerned) but you can replace it as much as you want and if you don’t replace your clutch fork it and that baby is old it will keep going out! So do yourself a favor and save you ears and money and if it’s old replace your clutch fork.Helpful (1)

My vehicle is stock, so I installed a Valeo (OE) clutch set and Luk flywheel. Ford dealership only had Borg Warner bearings, and I did not want to install the bearings that came in clutch kit. I am glad I bought these bearings. The install went great and has smooth operation and no noise. Very pleasedHelpful (0)

Should i get this throwout bearing or stick with the clutch kit one? I was checking out the Exedy Mach 600 Stage 4 Clutch kit and my question to you is should I buy the ford racing performance throwout bearing or stick with the one provided in the Exedy Mach 600 stage 4 clutch kit? What is your recommendation?
Buy this bearing. The ones in the kit tend to premature and squeal after time. I made this mistake too many times to save a couple bucks but it ends up costing more in the long wrong. Hope this helps. Good luck!
about a month ago i bought a exedy stage 2 clutch and changed all the bearings , fly wheel and clutch and pivot stud but i left the original clutch fork and i changed the clutch cable to a maximum motorsports clutch cable. But for some reason when i take my foot off the pedal (in neutral or in gear) my clutch sounds like a bird chirping and the clutch pedal rattles like crazy especially when i give it gas. My question is what do i need to change , the clutch fork ? or The throwout bearing ? please i need help here. Thank you
I would definitely recommend getting that to a mechanic ASAP! Sounds like an issue that may have been called by improper install on the flywheel or throwout bearing.
Is this USA made or some import junk?
Ford Performance does not list where they produce its parts.
will this work on a 03 cobra t56 trans
Yes, this is compatible with 03-04 Cobra models.
My Car rattles at idle when transmission is engaged almost like something is grinding, but it is automatic, what could be the cause if this is throwout bearing is for stick shift. Do automatics not have throwout bearings?
Automatics do not have a throwout bearing, this is a piece of the clutch application of a manual.
This is only compatible with V8 models.
Unfortunately this will not work with the V6 models.
This would be the throwout bearing that would be included in the Ford Performance Performance Clutch .
There should be no rattle at idle, there may have been an install error when the throwout bearing was installed.
Hello! The Ford Performance Performance Throwout Bearing will fit the TR3650 in an 01 GT, Cobra, orBullitt
The Ford Performance Performance Throwout Bearing will not be compatible with the 3.8 L V6 Mustangs.
You dont have to replace your clutch or fly wheel but you should. Your transmissions already out so replacing all of it is going to save you time and money .
Yes, you can use different manufacturer TO bearings on any clutch kit. FRPP throw out bearings and pilot bearings are highly recommended for longevity and noise free service.
This will work with your transmission, Hope your squeaking stops.
