      Video Review & Installation

Justin: If you're looking for an easy bolt-on mod to increase the airflow into your 2013 and newer Hemi-powered ride, then BBK's 90-Millimeter Throttle Body here might just be for you. Now, the 50-state legal BBK option will not require the use of any custom or canned tuning but will incorporate a high-quality CNC aluminum build mixed with factory-style electronics all for right around that low $500 price point. Now, since the simple 4-bolt job is pretty basic stuff overall, site's gonna go a solid one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, maybe 45 minutes or so to complete from start to finish. But if you hang with me for a bit, we'll walk you through that job later in the video. So, the 90-millimeter throttle body that we are featuring here today is gonna be a pretty substantial bump in size when compared to the factory 80-millimeter throttle body found on the 5.7 or 6.4 Hemis. Now, I know 10 millimeters might not seem like a huge difference overall, but in the world of throttle bodies, it is pretty significant. Now, full disclosure here, gang, the 90-millimeter throttle body that we do have in this video is really going to benefit the big power Hemi owners out there, maybe like forced induction owners or setups or max effort naturally aspirated builds as opposed to a light bolt-on application. Now, if you do plan on going big down the road with big power mods, forced induction, whatever, well, then this is certainly a mod that you can grow into. Now, as far as your build and construction is concerned, well, again, throttle body is hand-built and assembled right here in the USA using high-quality CNC aluminum materials. Now, in fact, I've actually been through the BBK facilities out in Temecula, California. I've witnessed how they basically turn a chunk of aluminum into the throttle body you see here today. And I will say it's very, very impressive. Now, after that CNC process, guys, BBK hand-builds everything, tops them off with OE quality electronics, which basically makes for a plug-and-play install and, best of all, without the need to run any custom or canned tuning. Now, as far as your benefits are concerned, well, I think the big expectation here will be a little bit more power. Of course, that all depends on your starting or existing modifications along with things like a little bit more throttle response. Now, you can also look forward to a factory-like fit, but keep in mind here, guys, because of that larger opening, the factory intake or aftermarket intake couplers might be a little snug to get over the opening itself. So, just be prepared to kind of muscle up that a little bit prior to the installation. Now, speaking of the install, this one is pretty simple. Again, BBK does include all of the hardware needed for the install. You really just need a 10-millimeter socket and wrench, small extension, and a flat-head screwdriver, and you really should be good to go. But to give you a better idea of just how things will go down on your ride at home, feel free to check out our detailed walkthrough now.Man: Tools used for this installation, flat-head screwdriver, 1/4-inch drive extension, 8-millimeter socket, 1/4-inch drive ratchet. First thing we're gonna do is remove our engine cover. Just lift up on it and pull. Now we're gonna remove our air intake tube. We're gonna loosen up our two hose clamps and remove our electrical connector. I'm just gonna push in on this tab. It slides right off. I'm gonna take my screwdriver, back off the clamp, my screwdriver, get this one off. And then we'll just pull down on it. Pull off over there and remove our air intake tube. Now that we have our air intake tube removed, we're gonna remove our connector up here that plugs into our throttle body. I'm gonna push down on a clip. Remove this harness out of the way.Next, we're going to take our four 8-millimeter bolts off. I'm gonna use my 1/4-inch drive ratchet to remove them and remove our throttle body. You're gonna wanna keep these bolts because we're gonna reuse them to install our new throttle body. Now that we have our throttle body removed, I'm going to take a rag. I'm gonna clean this surface and get this ready and then we'll reinstall our new throttle body. Now I'm gonna just take a rag because we're gonna reuse our O-ring, so I'm just gonna wipe our surface here, make sure it's clean. And now I'll get the other throttle body and we'll start the install. Now that we have our surface clean, we have our O-ring still in here, we're gonna reuse the O-ring that came in it. We're gonna install our 8-millimeter bolts and install our new throttle body. I'm gonna get them started. Once I get them started, then I'll snug them up. I'm taking my 1/4-inch drive ratchet. I'm just gonna go around. I'm not gonna have to go really tight because it is plastic. So, we don't wanna break anything. And now that we have that installed, we're going to take our electrical connector, push it back on, you'll hear a click. Push our rad connector in. Now we're ready to install our intake tube. So, now that we got our 90-millimeter throttle body installed, we're gonna install our stock air intake tube. Now is a perfect time if you want to upgrade to an aftermarket airbox, this is the time to do it. It's going to be a little tough to get our stock air intake tube onto that 90-millimeter throttle body. The stock one was 80-millimeter. This is 90. You got 10 millimeters. But we're gonna put it on and show you how it goes on. It's gonna be a very tight installation. So, now that I have our connection on to our airbox, I'm gonna slide this overtop of our throttle body. I took the hose clamp off because it is that tight to get this on. So, I'm gonna start it on the bottom. And I'm gonna take a small screwdriver and fish it around to get it to start on there, pretty much like that. And shove it on.Now, once I get that, I'll install my hose clamp, tighten it up, and we'll have our stock air intake on. Now I got my hose clamp re-installed. I'm gonna take my 8-millimeter, tighten up our hose clamp. And again, this is going to be a tight fit. Don't be afraid to use some grease on it to get it to slide over because it is a very big throttle body. And now that we have this in place, we'll reinstall our electrical connection, tighten up our 8-millimeter on our airbox. And now we have that done. Our air intake tube is installed. We'll install our engine cover and wrap this installation up. Now we'll install our intake cover back on our motor. Just punch down on it. And that wraps up this installation. So, now that we have our installation finished, when you buy your throttle body, they're gonna give you some directions. You're gonna take your smartphone and go on this site here. When it comes up, you're going to see the instructions to install the throttle body. And down here you're gonna see that it gives you a throttle body idle relearn process. It's pretty simple. I'm gonna go through it right now. What you're gonna do is you're gonna come into your car, you're gonna turn the key on. Once you have the key on, you're going to then, without starting the vehicle, you're going to push the throttle all the way down and depress it and release it three times. So, that's what I'm gonna do now. One, two, three. Now I'm going to shut the car off. Now, that should relearn the idle process on the new throttle body and calibrate it to the computer. That wraps up this review and install of our BBK 90-Millimeter Throttle Body for '13 to '21 5.7 and 6.4-Liter Hemis. Thanks for watching. And for all things Charger, keep it right here at americanmuscle.com.
