      Video Review & Installation

Jake: Jake here for AmericanMuscle, and today, I'm taking a look at the C&L's Super Sport Front Brake Rotor and Pad kit, fitting various different models and trims of charger. Now, before we dive in too deep here, everyone, I want to take a moment to acknowledge that this does have a bit of a complicated fitment for a bunch of different models and trims of chargers. So please make sure you double-check it before you buy it. We've got everything spelled out on the website for you just to ensure that it's gonna fit your car properly. Now, brakes are some of the most important components of your vehicle. And if you're gonna go fast, well, you need to be able to stop quickly too. So if you're in need of a way to stop faster or just in need of a replacement for your stock front brakes, these are an excellent way to improve your charger's braking performance without blowing out the budget.Traditionally, manufacturers equip their cars with solid disks from the factory, and while those work fine for most applications, well, there's definitely room for some improvement here. And one of the best ways to improve your braking performance is by upgrading to a set of drilled and slotted rotors like these. Now, this is gonna be extremely helpful in dissipating heat.Heat is the enemy of braking performance, and that's what these channels and holes in the faces of the rotors are for. Now, as you apply the brakes, friction and heat can build up on the faces of the rotors, and these channels are gonna funnel that heat away from the pads and the faces of the rotors themselves. Now, the holes here also go through into the vents in the middle, so they allow another escape route where the heat can dissipate and get funneled out through these central veins. So, all those hot gases have plenty of places through which to escape. Less heat means less chance of fading and better overall braking response. Now, if you've ever had a set of brakes get hot on you, you know how scary of an experience that can be. So, doing everything you can to avoid it is absolutely worth it. That's all to say you're gonna get much better heat dissipation with this setup, which means that your braking performance is gonna be vastly improved overstock. Now, those veins and holes are also gonna help keep brake dust, water, and other debris off the faces of the rotors. So, it's gonna make for smooth, consistent operation, no matter what the conditions are. Combining that with the Super Sport ceramic pads here, you're gonna get maximum bite-quiet operation and low dust. And the rotors are constructed from CNC machine to premium cast iron, so similar in construction to your standard OEM brakes. They're also perfectly meal balanced to prevent against vibration, noise, and uneven wear, and they're finished with this bright zinc electroplating to help prevent against rust and corrosion, so they're gonna last a long time. But that cast iron construction also means that the price is gonna stay low. Now, the pads here are made using a proprietary ceramic compound that's designed to produce consistent solid bite and also resist fade.Pricing for the set, as you see it here, is gonna come in at just about $250, which makes it the least expensive full set of drilled and slotted front brakes for these chargers. So the kit is really a great value, and you're still gonna get excellent stopping power and more performance versus stock. Now, there's also a set to match for the rear of the charger, so if you're looking for all four corners, if you wanna do all of them at the same time, we've got that available on our site too. So make sure you check that out while you're at it.Installation is gonna come in at a two out of three on our difficulty meter, and should take you about three hours to complete. Now, this is a direct bolt-on replacement for your stock pads and rotors, so you can certainly accomplish this at home in the driveway with whatever tools you got handy. And to show you that process now, let's head on over to the install bay.Male Speaker: The tools you'll need for this project are clean cloth, some brake cleaner, a 3/8 drive ratchet with a 10-millimeter socket, an 18-millimeter wrench, a 13-millimeter and a 21-millimeter socket with a 1/2-inch drive, impact gun, a caliper hanging tool, and a dual-piston caliper spreader. Today we're replacing front pads and rotors on our charger. So let's get started with the uninstalled process first. Once you've got your vehicle properly supported and the wheels removed, the next thing to do would be to turn your wheels to give you better access. Now we can remove the brake hose bracket on the back of the steering knuckle using our 10-millimeter socket. Then we'll remove the two 13-millimeter bolts holding in the caliper. And then, finally, we'll remove the two 21-millimeter bolts holding on the caliper mounting bracket. So here's the bolt we have to remove for our brake line. All right. Now we can remove this 13-millimeter bolt here and this one up here. Now, you may also need an 18-millimeter wrench to hold the inside of the retaining mount because it will spin on you if you don't. Now we can lift our caliper out of the way and use some sort of a hanging device to help protect it and the hoses from any damage. Now we can remove the two 21-millimeter bolts holding our caliper mounting bracket, and now we can go ahead and remove our rotor. Now, it's always a good idea to check the movement of your guide pins. Ours seem to be moving pretty good, but we'll just pull them out and apply some fresh lubricant supplied in the kit. Now, it doesn't take a whole lot, just make sure it's all covered, and then we can put it back in. Just make sure the rubber boot is also secured back in. One other thing that's always a good idea is to clean up the contact area with either a scotch bright pad or a fine-tooth file just to make sure when we put the new hardware in, everything sits correctly. Now we can go ahead and install our new hardware simply by pushing it in and making sure that it's all seated on both sidesAnd we can go ahead and install our new pads. And now we're ready to move back to the vehicle. Now, before we install our rotors on the vehicle, it's always a good idea to clean it with some brake clean to make sure that any of the processing oils that were used in manufacturing of the rotor is cleaned off there so that we don't contaminate the pads. Wipe it down with a clean cloth and make sure that you get the opposite side as well. Now we can go ahead and install the rotor back on the car and then use a couple of lug nuts just to hold it in place while we get everything else mounted up. Now, because your new pads and rotor are going to be thicker than the ones you took off, we're gonna need to compress the pistons inside the caliper. In order to do that, what we'll do is place one of the old pads in front of it, and then we'll use a spreader to compress the pistons back inside the caliper. Now we can go ahead and reinstall our caliper mounting bracket with the original hardware. Now we'll secure them with our 21-millimeter socket. Now we'll reinstall our caliper again using the original hardware, and we'll tighten them down with our 13-millimeter socket and our 18-millimeter wrench. Now we can go ahead and reattach our brake line bracket again with the original hardware and tighten it down with our 10-millimeter socket. Now you can torque everything down to recommended factory specifications and repeat this whole process on the other side. And one more thing. Remember, before you start to drive this vehicle and brake in the brakes, make sure you pump the pedal a few times to make sure that the pads seat properly on the rotors. And that wraps up our review and install of the C&L Super Sport Brake Rotor and Pad Kit for the front on the '09 to newer charger GT and RT, and also the '11 to newer charger SE, SXT with dual-piston front calipers. Thanks for watching, and, remember, for all things charger, keep it right here at americanmuscle.com.

      Description

Increased Braking Performance. A great way to upgrade the stopping power of your Dual Piston Front Caliper equipped 2009-2023 Dodge Charger is by installing a C&L Super Sport Cross-Drilled and Slotted Rotor Brake Rotor and Pad Kit. Including Cross-Drilled and Slotted Front Brake Rotors, as well as a set of matching Ceramic/Metallic Brake Pads, this Brake Kit will significantly improve the braking performance of your Charger, when compared to your original factory brakes. This C&L Performance Combo Kit is ideal for those who want high-performance braking power without breaking open their piggy banks.

Superior Construction. C&L Performance manufactures its one-piece Brake Rotors from premium-grade cast iron castings. CNC machined, these Rotors are perfectly mill-balanced to prevent vibration, noise, and uneven wear. C&L Performance then completes their rotors in a bright zinc electroplating treatment to provide good looks and protection against rust.

Cross-Drilled and Slotted. C&L Performance Super Sport Rotors feature a cross-drilled and slotted design that helps to reduce brake fade by allowing hot gasses to easily escape through the vented holes. The slotted design will sweep away dust, water and debris to keep the surface of your brake pads cleaner for reliable bite every time you hit the pedal.

Cooling Vane Design. Unlike solid aftermarket brake rotors, these C&L Performance Super Sport Rotors feature a vented vane design with an internal chamber structure. These vented vanes will allow hot gasses to escape easier to further improve the cooling performance of your brakes. Faster heat dissipation in turn will greatly increase your braking performance.

Ceramic Metallic Compound. C&L Super Sport Brake Pads are manufactured from a proprietary blend of ceramic and metallic fibers that will resist brake fade and will provide maximum braking bite. C&L Super Sport Ceramic pads are the logical choice for big brake stopping power without the price.

Clean and Quiet Operation. Featuring a rotor-friendly ceramic/metallic compound and an OE style slotted design, these C&L Performance Brake Pads will produce significantly less dust when compared to your original stock pads. When C&L Performance Brake Pads are combined with their matching Rotors, you will experience smooth, noise-free braking.

Direct Fit Replacement Upgrade. C&L Performance designed its Cross-Drilled / Slotted Rotor and Brake Pad Combo Kit to be a direct fit replacement upgrade for your Charger's stock rotors and pads. Installation can normally be completed in under 3 hours with just basic hand tools using the existing calipers and hardware.

Complete Front Kit. This C&L Performance Rotor and Brake Pad Kit comes complete and includes 2 Front Rotors as well as a set of Ceramic Front Brake Pads. The Kit also includes all the required hardware needed for installation on your Charger's original factory calipers.

Application. This C&L Super Sport Cross-Drilled and Slotted Brake Rotor and Pad Kit; Front is specifically designed to fit 2006-2014 Charger Pursuit; 2006-2023 Charger AWD SE, AWD SXT, Daytona, Daytona R/T, GT and R/T with Dual Piston Front Calipers; 2011-2013 5.7L HEMI Charger SE.
