Justin: You should be checking out the J&L Oil Separator for your 2006 and newer 57 Charger at home if you are looking to help capture the oily vapors produced during combustion from being reintroduced back into your intake, ultimately dirtying up the intake side of your engine over time. Now the construction is going to consist of a quality Made in the USA billet aluminum canister, along with the factory style hoses and fittings all for right around that mid to high $100 price point. Now, the install is gonna get a soft one outta three wrenches on the difficulty meter according to the site, and that's thanks largely to the plug-and-play design. So, therefore I figure about 30 minutes or so from start to finish, and we'll show you that install later in the video. So, if you guys didn't know, your Charger has what is called a PCV system, which is short for Positive Crankcase Ventilation. Now, the purpose of this PCV system is to regulate and ultimately remove the fumes and vapors from the engine crankcase to help alleviate crankcase pressure, which if not regulated or removed, would otherwise cause oil leaks or seal damage. Now, since these vapors and all that junk can't be just vented out to the atmosphere, they are plumbed back into your Hemi's intake system to be burned off during the next combustion cycle. And while that all sounds good in theory, a lot of times these oily vapors end up coating the inside of your intake manifold, and even your intake valves, which can lead to things like diluted gas, misfires, or in some cases valve coking. And that's where the J&L oil separators come into play. Now, these guys are gonna use a combination of a stainless steel mesh material and aluminum honeycomb up top here, which basically allows these vapors to pass through the separator, and then drop down into the canister here where it's gonna isolate that oily junk, while still allowing fresh clean air to pass through your car's PCV system. Now J&L actually claims emptying this thing maybe every 5,000 to 7,000 miles would be good practice. I've had a few of these on my rides over the years, guys, believe me, they fill up oftentimes a lot quicker than you might think, and that does depend on things like your weather, believe it or not. Sometimes you get condensation in here. But regardless, I would say check it every couple thousand miles just to make sure it's not filling up on you too quickly. And then when it does come time to empty this guy, just make sure you're doing so responsibly. Now as far as your construction is concerned, well again, simple billet aluminum canister here guys, three ounces is your capacity. Has been engraved up top, and again you are looking at that black anodized finish with this particular option. Now, just a heads up here, if you did prefer maybe a little bit more flash under the hood, J&L does also offer this in their satin silver finish as well.Last not least guys, as you can see, J&L does include everything needed for the install, including your factory-style hoses, which are already cut to length for you. You do have a nice little billet bracket here, engraved as well, and all of your factory-style fittings as well needed to get everything in place. Now, this really isn't going to be a difficult install guys. In fact, feel free to read up on some of the reviews here on this highly-rated product to give you a better idea of what you're in for, not only for the install itself, but what other Hemi owners are experiencing with their ownership of this install in the ride. But speaking of that installation, let's get right into things guys. And again, very simple, straightforward stuff thanks to everything J&L includes with the kit. Again, one outta three wrenches on the difficulty meter is really what you can expect here. This isn't gonna be a difficult day in the garage or driveway. But to give you a better idea of just how exactly things will go down on your 5.7 at home, feel free to check out our detailed walkthrough and tool breakdown now.Man: The tools you'll need for this project are a 3/8 or 1/4-inch drive ratchet, a 13-millimeter socket, a pair of pliers, a number 2 Phillips screwdriver, a trim removal tool, and a small bit of motor oil. Hi, everyone. Today we're installing an oil separator on our Charger. So, let's get started. First thing we're gonna do, after we've got our hood raised, is remove our engine cover. And we do that simply by lifting it up and out. Now we can remove this plastic PCV tube right here between these two short hoses. Now, you may need to use a pair of pliers to break the seal on this rubber hose and the plastic PVC pipe. Once you do that, you can just pull it out, and do the same thing for the other side. Now, once you've got that plastic tube removed, you're gonna take this front one here and turn it 90 degrees facing towards the front of the engine. Now, we're gonna go ahead and put a mounting bracket onto our oil separator. Now, your oil separator, as you're looking at it, you wanna be able to see it and read it normally.Same thing with the mounting bracket. So, we're gonna put that on backwards on the backside here. And the kit provides you with the necessary screws to attach the mounting bracket to the oil separator. We'll just put those in like so. And then once you've got it started, you can go ahead and use your number two Phillip screwdriver and tighten them down. Now, our next step is going to be to insert these plastic PVC connectors. And you'll notice in the kit that you have two different sizes. You have a 1/2-inch on one end and a 5/8 on the other end. And then you have two of them that are 1/2-inch on both sides. Now depending on the year of your car will determine which of these fittings you're going to use. The '05 to '20s will use the 1/2-inch by 1/2-inch, '21 and above will use the 1/2-inch by 5/8. So, since ours is a '15, we're gonna go ahead and use the half by half. And to insert these, you're gonna insert one into each of the fittings on the engine. And I highly recommend that you use some clean motor oil just a little bit on the ends just to make it slide in a little bit easier. And now we can go ahead and insert these into the hoses. So, we'll put one in into the hose at the oil fill, and one in into our 90-degree fitting up front. Now we can take our oil separator, and the short hose is gonna go on this front one, and the long hose will go on the back one. We just slide those on. Now, depending on your vehicle, you may have a plug right here where our wiring harness is at, or you may not have that at all. If you do have something in that hole right here, just go ahead and pull that wiring harness out. Now, it's in there pretty good, so you may need to use something like a trim removal tool. Just wedge it in there and pry it out. Now there's threads in that hole right there, and the kit also comes with a 13-millimeter bolt for us to mount our oil separator to it. So, we'll just line that up, insert our bolt, and tighten it down with our 13-millimeter socket. And we'll just tighten it down with our 13-millimeter socket. Now, we can go ahead and reinstall our engine cover and we're done. And that wraps up our review and install of the J&L 3.0 oil separator with the black anodized finish for the passenger side on the '06 to '23 5.7 Charger. Thanks for watching. And remember, for all things Charger, keep it right here at americanmuscle.com.
