      Video Review & Installation

Jake here from AmericanMuscle, and today I'm taking a look at the BBK 1-7_8-Inch Long Tube Headersin Titanium Ceramic for 2006 and newer 6.1, 6.2, and 6.4-Liter HEMI Chargers. If you're looking to take your exhaust to the next level or bring some noticeable power gains to your Charger, a set of long tube headers like these should absolutely be on your list. These BBK headers offer solid performance gains and quality construction for a very affordable price. Now, as you know, at this point, engines function essentially like an air pump, air goes in, has to come out. So, if you change up the flow on either side, your net result should be more power. Now, the long tube versus short tube header debate has been beaten to death all over the internet and at every car show for as long as time has been going on. But the long and short of it is... see what I did there? If you're looking for high RPM power and more gains overall, the long tubes are gonna be the way to go. Now, by nature of their design, they keep the exhaust gases separated for longer periods of time before more smoothly bringing them together down at the collector here. There are a couple of things to note with these specific headers before we continue though. First is that these will require a tune. Since you're changing up the exhaust flow and the location of your oxygen sensors, you need to tune to get things working together smoothly. You're also gonna need some oxygen sensor plug extensions, which we do have available on our site. The other thing to note is that this setup does not include mid-pipes as you probably noticed from the lack of mid-pipes here on the table. Now, you can use your factory ones or aftermarket mid-pipes as well. So, you don't need to purchase new ones. Again, these are large 1-7_8-inch primaries made of CNC-machined 16 gauge mandrel bent tubing. So, they're gonna have excellent smooth flow and they're significantly larger than your stock manifolds. Having that extra length versus shorties or even stock manifolds also helps to relieve back pressure, which is gonna again, help everything flow nice and smoothly, and contribute to those power gains. As you can see, they also feature a titanium ceramic finish. So, they're gonna easily withstand the heat. And that also means that you're not gonna have to worry about them getting corroded or rusty over time. Now, the flanges up here are 3/8- inch thick and dye stamped for a tight fitment too. All these combines made for unrestricted exhaust flow, more power, and an awesome sound. And that is the other reason to get a set of long tubes, the noise. These seriously wake things up. Now, long tubes are known to bring that loud, aggressive muscle car sound, and these are absolutely no exception. You're gonna get a noticeable difference in sound even if you're running those stock mid-pipes or a stock cat-back. It is gonna be loud, so prepare yourself for that. But if you wanna keep a lid on things to some extent, like I said, you can run these with the stock cats or your stock exhaust. However, of course, they do sound really good and they pair nicely with aftermarket setups of each. Now, we are not gonna be dyno testing these here, but BBK does claim upwards of 20 horsepower in improvement. Now, we're gonna leave those exact measurements up to some other dyno test, but just know that you are gonna get an appreciable gain in power with these. As for cost, this setup from BBK are some of the least expensive long tubes out there for the Charger, coming in right around $700. And that is a bargain in the category for sure. You are again, still getting good quality construction, nice welds, a good finish. But just keep in mind that this doesn't include those mid-pipes or some of the other ancillary bits that you may want or need for the setup. This is perfect, though, if you've already got aftermarket mid-pipes, maybe an aftermarket exhaust, or even a tune since you're basically set up to go and make the maximum amount of power with those. But even without all that, if you're looking for long tubes and something to make a real difference in performance, you won't go wrong with these. Now, on that note, we do need to talk about the installation. Not pulling any punches here, doing headers is not an easy job. These are going to get a solid three out of three on our difficulty meter, and you should plan on it taking you the better part of a day to get this completed. Now, while all the gaskets and the hardware that you need are included in the box, this is gonna test the metal of your toolbox and your skill set. It's a very involved job, especially if you don't have access to a lift. Of course, asking your preferred shop or mechanic to install these for you is always an option. And in a case like this, if you're not comfortable really diving in there, professional installation is your best bet. As with most things, though, if you've got the skill set, the toolbox, and of course, the time, you can do this yourself. But just make sure you're aware of how involved of a job it is before you attempt it.That's gonna wrap it up for our review of the BBK 1-7_8-Inch Long Tube Headers in Titanium Ceramic for 2006 and newer 6.1, 6.2, and 6.4-Liter HEMI Chargers. Thank you so much for watching. And remember for all things Charger, be sure to keep it right here at americanmuscle.com.
