      Video Review & Installation

Justin: The SpeedForm throttle controller that we have here today will be one of the most affordable devices of its kind for the 2007 and newer Charger owners who are looking to help eliminate the lag or delay in your drive-by-wire system. Now, the SpeedForm controller will feature five preset modes which are further customizable thanks to the nine positions of sensitivity adjustment, allowing you to custom tailor each mode to your personal preference. Now, price point for the device will hover in that low to mid-$100 range, and the install, well, it's gonna be a simple plug-and-play job, guys. I figure a few minutes of your time from start to finish, as we'll show you later in the video. So throttle control devices have been around for a while now and can be found under a bunch of different names or manufacturers here on the site. And, for the most part, they all exist to serve that same common purpose, and that is to basically eliminate the perceived lag or delay of you pushing the throttle pedal in your charger and the car not exactly reacting in the manner or as quick as you'd like it to. Now, in a nutshell, these devices basically increase or in some cases even decrease the throttle voltage which in turn directly affects just how much or how little your throttle body opens. For instance, on race mode, it will see far greater voltage at any given throttle input when compared to your stock or maybe your eco setting. And that's why the car will feel sportier given 25% throttle in race mode when compared to the same 25% throttle input in stock or eco mode. Now, one thing I do want to clarify here, guys, is that these devices do not add any horsepower or torque or acceleration like a tuner might, again, strictly a throttle device as the name indicates. Now, it might feel like the car is a little bit faster than before thanks to the increased throttle input or response. But, ultimately, at the end of the day, if you want to add more power along with increased throttle response, a tuner is still going to be the way to roll. But let's talk about some of these modes because that is one of the nice things about the SpeedForm device, you got some flexibility built in. Now, right out of the box, you are getting five different modes, including stock, which will be exactly as it sounds right? There's no changes made to the throttle sensitivity, and the car will function as it did before. Now, this is going to be displayed on the device as NO. Up next there will be what is called an eco mode which is designed for fuel economy benefits. Now, unlike the performance modes, which tend to really crank the voltage over stock, the eco mode actually will reduce voltage given the same pedal input to help increase your fuel economy. Now, this will actually be displayed on the device as EC. Up next will be a comfort/sport mode which will offer a nice balance of performance, but also fuel economy. I would think most people would probably choose this as a good compromise for a daily driver and will be displayed as P1 on your SpeedForm device. Finally, we have the two most aggressive modes, which will be sport and race. Now, sport mode or P2 as it's displayed will improve your throttle input noticeably over stock, eco, or even comfort mode while still not being too touchy or over the top. And then there's the all-out race mode or P3. Now, this mode will offer the most aggressive voltage ramping which will have your car feeling like a completely different animal once it's selected. Now, this or any of the modes or maybe a bit much, well, SpeedForm does offer a few different positions of sensitivity adjustment. And that is one of the most unique things about this very budget-friendly option. So, for instance, if the race mode is a little too hair-triggerish in your opinion, well, you can always dial it back a little bit thanks to that sensitivity adjustment. And that goes for any of the modes here on the device. Now, the device itself is one of the most basic in the category here or simple, and, you know, some people might like that. Others maybe prefer a little bit more flash, a little bit more bells and whistles. And if that is the case, well, then I encourage you to check out the rest of our selection here at AM, but this is a very small, very sleek display. Obviously, you have your mode button here to switch between those modes, + or - button to adjust the sensitivity like we talked about earlier. Now, because this thing is really small, you basically have a lot of options when it comes to mounting. Throw this thing anywhere, and it even includes some adhesive on the back here. And this will allow you to adhere this your dash, center console, cluster, wherever you're thinking. Helping you with that will be the fact that it does include your plug-and-play harness. And this is going to allow for a very easy install thanks to the pedal side here which will connect to your throttle pedal harness. And then on the other side, you have roughly 10 feet or so of the additional wire, and that's going to allow you to run that wire hopefully in a very clean and stealthy manner to connect to the display wherever you have selected. Now, one thing the site does point out and something that I really want to reaffirm here is that because this device, the SpeedForm, does not tap into your OBD-II port, and it doesn't alter your car's calibration, there is no footprint left behind once the device has been removed, so that should help alleviate any possible warranty concerns that you guys might have. Last but not least, guys, this is a great time to remind you to check out the numerous customer reviews and four and five-star ratings on the site to get some real-world feedback from Charger owners who have actually installed the SpeedForm device on their rides, and you can actually hear what they have to say about it. But now we want to move into the installation portion of the video and just give you a better idea of how easy everything will be. Site's going to call this, again, soft one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, maybe 15 minutes of your time to complete from start to finish. And I would estimate most of that time will just probably be spent running and hiding that wire. But regardless, to give you a better idea of just how things will go down, check out our detailed walkthrough provided to us by a fellow AM customer.Man: The installation of the SpeedForm throttle control is a relatively simple one. This is only gonna take a few minutes. The only additional tool that you're gonna need that's not already included in the kit is a pry tool. Within the kit, you have the wiring harness, the control module, and instructions. First up, there're going to be two pins you're going to want to remove, the first pin is going to be right here, using the pry tool. The second pin on the cabinet panel is going to be right here. Just go on and take the pry tool, put underneath the first pin, popped out. Now, going to the secondary pin right here in the front, you're going to use the pry tool and pop it out like so. Now, this entire cabinet panel is going to be easily removed. Just slide it down and then slide it forward. This wiring harness here is just to control the interior light here that comes on whenever you open the door. It's not required to remove it. But I'm gonna remove it right now so it's easier to see for the install. Now, right here, above the accelerator pedal is gonna be the harness that you don't need to remove. There's a pin up here at the top that you want to squeeze it together and then slide it right on out. And so take it, squeeze right here at the top, and pop it off. You remove it. That's gonna be the male side. That male side of the harness is going to connect to the female side right here on the wiring harness supplied by SpeedForm. Right. So you're gonna take that female side, take the male side, put them together, slide them together until you hear and feel the click. The male side of that wiring harness, supplied by SpeedForm, is gonna go and slide right on top of that right there or the original wiring harness which slides easily on there. Need to push it down until you feel the click like so. Now, the SpeedForm throttle controller is installed. You want to set this to the side so that the wiring does not get in the way of anything. Reconnect the harness for the interior dome light like so. Slide the cabinet panel back, and then put the push-pin right here on the top. Now, the second push-pin, put it there. Make sure everything is completely secure and that nothing is in the way of the accelerator pedal. That part of the installation is complete. Now, take the control module and the wire supplied with the wiring harness, slide it in there. Now, that part's good to go. Let's test it out.Justin: So if you're looking to take control of the drive-by-wire system in your Charger, be sure to check out a SpeedForm throttle control device right here at americanmuscle.com.

      Description

Enhances Throttle Response. Eliminate your Charger's sluggish throttle response with a SpeedForm Throttle Controller. All modern vehicles use a drive-by-wire system that controls the throttle body electronically, similar to a dimmer switch. While innovative, this design causes an irritating delay that is most noticeable when trying to speed up to merge with fast moving traffic or when passing a slower moving car. The SpeedForm Throttle Controller actually boosts this signal to eliminate the delay for quicker, snappier throttle response, making it a must have for all drive-by-wire vehicles.

      Five Modes.
The SpeedForm Throttle Response Controller comes with 5 preset control modes for Stock, Eco, Comfort/Sport, Sport and Race applications. Each mode can further be adjusted with 9 levels of sensitivity. This allows you to select the mode that works the best for your own personal driving style and needs.

      • Stock - Acceleration is set to factory defaults. Display is NO.
      • ECO - Designed for fuel economy. Display is EC.

      • Sport - Improves engine response for better performance during daily commuting. Display is P2.
      • Race - Maximum performance with immediate throttle response. Display is P3.

Easy Plug & Play Installation. The SpeedForm Throttle Response Controller connects directly into the stock throttle position sensor found on the drive-by-wire gas pedal using an OEM style plug and play connector with no permanent modifications required. The Throttle Response Controller is 100% reversible and will not leave residual codes on the factory PCM making it warranty friendly.

Application. This SpeedForm Throttle Controller is designed for use on all 2007-2023 Dodge Charger models.
