    Review & Install Video

Justin: SpeedForm's Decklid Blackout Panel here will be an easy and affordable way to add that smoked glossy appearance to the bare decklid of your 2005 to 2009 Mustang. Construction will be a dark one-piece composite material molded to fit the decklid perfectly while the peel and stick installation will be easy enough for just about anyone to tackle. So figure a soft one out of three wrenches here and about 30 minutes or less to complete from start to finish as we'll show you a little later in the video. So a full disclosure here, guys, outside of the vinyl kit on the site, this is gonna be one of your most affordable ways to blackout the decklid on your '05 to '09 Mustang. V6, GT, Shelby, BULLITT, doesn't matter, the SpeedForm option here will fit them all. Now I do use that word blackout kind of loosely here because as you can see, this isn't a completely black piece of plastic, instead, it's more of a dark smoked appearance. So just know that, just be aware of that before pulling the trigger, so there's no surprises when everything shows up.I will say however that glossy smoked appearance does flow really well with a set of smoked tail lights but ultimately that will be your choice. Now another good way to get a better idea of what this thing is gonna look like when installed is to read up on the literally hundreds of customer reviews here on this product while checking out some of the customer submitted images at the same time because you'll get a better sense of what it looks like once installed especially on your own color ride at home. But outside of that physical kind of smoked appearance of the decklid panel, there isn't a ton to talk about with the exception of construction of course. So injection-molded, composite-plastic will be your material of choice here and again it has been designed in a way to fit that decklid rather well given the budget-friendly price point. Now as you can see, there is a cutout here in place for that factory rear decklid emblem. But just a quick heads up here, guys, if you are considering going with a pre-painted trunk emblem from maybe MMD or something similar, fitment will not be guaranteed without modification with the aftermarket decklid panel in place. Now the factory emblem, gonna be just fine, right? But anything else, there might be some modifications required to get it all to kind of jive together. But now let's get into the installation. And if you didn't know already, this panel will secure to your factory decklid using the pre-installed 3M automotive tape here on the backside of the panel itself. So no cutting, no drilling, no permanent modification is needed. And to give you a better idea of how things are all going to go down, here's a detailed walkthrough along with a quick tool breakdown.Man: The tools used for this install are a damp cloth and a razor knife. So the first step to this install is gonna be to make sure that you're working with a nice clean surface, and then you're gonna use the provided alcohol prep pads to wipe down the surface where the 3M tape is gonna stick. Now I'm just gonna start by peeling back the corners of my 3M tape so that I can locate it on the vehicle and then I will finally peel off the rest of it when I have it in place. Just fold the edges over so that you can pull them when you have it on the car. Now you got all four corners peeled back, get everything located on the vehicle and stick it into place. Now you can apply some light pressure to make sure that your 3M sticks properly. And that's gonna wrap up this review and install for the SpeedForm Decklid Blackout Panel for your '05 to '09 Mustang. Thanks for watching. And for all things Mustang, keep it right here at americanmuscle.com.

Will the MMD Trunk Emblem pre painted fit once the Speedform Decklid Blackout Panel is fitted?

        • No, The MMD Trunk Emblem Surround - Pre-Painted for the 05-09 All Mustangs will not fit directly on the SpeedForm Decklid Blackout Panel for the 05-09 All Mustangs without custom modification because it will not fit flush against the raised panel. https://www.americanmuscle.com/painted-rear-emblem-cover-0509.html

How do I fix the misaligned cutout hole for the deck emblem? It hangs over the edge on the right side of the deck and leaves a gap on the left side.

        • If this product is not aligned properly, it's a matter of identifying as to why, and honestly it comes down to one of two scenarios: 1. The product was miss-manufactured. 2. Your Mustang has a slight imperfection that is only noticeable during the installation of a decklid panel. To expand upon the second scenario, we manufacture this decklid panel to fit all Mustangs between 05-09. The idea is every single panel has the same exact dimensions every time its manufactured. Now, if your Mustang came out of the factory with your emblem a quarter or an 8th of an inch off center, or something along those lines, it is virtually unnoticeable until you go to apply what is effectively a very generalized template (this decklid). However, to begin the process of figuring out whether scenario 1 or scenario 2 is the culprit for the issue, it would require giving out customer service center a call. So unfortunately there is no "fixing" the product. It's identifying which of those two issues is the cause and acting accordingly. Option one is a simple replacement. Unfortunately if it is option 2, there is no simple solution.

Would it be a good idea to add some 3M tape around the emblem hole on the deck lid cover to keep dust and dirt out? I saw in one of the reviews about it catching some dirt...once I install it, I don't want to have to take it off to clean behind it.

        • The emblem surrounds the opening for the Decklid Blackout Panel, however, some extra 3M tape would not hurt.

Matte or Gloss Is this cover finish a Matte kinda flat black or a Gloss kind of finish?

        • It's a gloss type of finish. Looks great!

Will it be see through? I have a white mustang with smoked tail lights. I wanna know if this decklid panel will make it all black without any white showing through

        • Yes! I have a Grabber Orange Mustang and it completely blacks out the area it covers. You do need to beware of the fit, however. Mine was a little short on the sides and the Orange shows on the deck lid about 1/4" from the sides.

            Very Poor Fitment

Pictures are misleading. Cut lines were terrible and rough. Leaves gap on one side as well as a gap around the trunk badge leaving the paint color visible. Does not fit well at all.

            Save your money

Poor fitment, Gaps everywhere when I lined it up to my emblem, looks good but it’s just a see through panel with tint, 3M tape was strong at first but it’s starting to peel of after a month on my car even though I used the alcohol prep pads and plus more of my own. I wouldn’t recommend, for $70 you can put it towards a better one. I would love to ask about a refund but I doubt that’s happening. Very unhappy with SpeedForm.

            Poor quality control

First of all it's not what I consider a blackout panel. It's a see thru panel that is tinted. Quality control is very poor on the fit having gaps around the center cap and not completely covering the decklid. The one I received the right side end had a wavy edge instead of being straight.

            Do not buy

Product itself is of good quality, however I don't even know why they are selling it. The decklid does NOT fit it's horrible, there's gaps everywhere!!! I already took it off. Plus the water get trapped in. The install is very easy and straight forward!! The 3m tape is great and it holds right .... But seriously do not buy this product, it's a complete scam and my first disappointment with American muscle

Blackout Panel Looks Great on Redfire Stang.

The blackout panel looks great on the back of my red car. I was a little disappointed in the centering of the hole which seemed to be a little over sized. It was really challenging getting the part centered exactly due to the center hold cutout being slightly oversize!

            Bad product

I got this decklid panel for my Birthday and was really excited about it. When I went to dry fit the panel, it was cut very improperly and wouldn't line up with the decklid. The hole for the faux gas cap does not fit correctly and the edges are not lines up with the entire decklid. Very disappointed and would not recommend.

            Its OK I guess

The decklid is smoked but you can see right through it on my car(which is white). Also the fit meant isn't the greatest. It leaves a little bit of the left side visible. Like you can see the white paint. Its only on the left side for me which is so annoying. But at a distance it looks good. : )

            Smoked , not black.

It’s smoked , not black. My car is white and shows through. The GT emblem on back either isn’t centered or the hole in the panel is off, because it has a gap on one side. Didn’t even use it.
