If you’re looking for a blackout panel with some different styling cues from the rest, this one’s for you. This panel is great for anyone looking to give the back of their Mustang a meaner look, it’s made from injection molded plastic so it’s all one piece, this deck lid panel features a high gloss finish with a dark smoked look, and a perfectly sized opening for your emblem to stand out and shine. Installation is really simple, and it requires no drilling, and no bondo. You simply want to clean your deck lid thoroughly, then take and peel off the protective strips on the 3M tape already applied to the deck lid panel, line it up, and stick it on. It requires no extra tools, and installation should take you no more than a half hour. For a smoked out and aggressive style that looks great on any 05-09 Mustang, the rear blackout panel is the way to go.

Aggressive Style. Give your S197 Mustang's back end an aggressive, "blacked out" look with a SpeedForm Rear Blackout Panel. Goes great with other smoked or black accessories, especially tail lights or light covers, to give your 'Stang a standout appearance that will turn heads.

Premium Quality. This premium quality piece is made from injection molded composite for great looks and durability. It even features a round opening for your factory trunk emblem to show through.

Easy Installation. This rear SpeedForm Mustang blackout panel installs in less than 30 minutes and no tools are required. You'll be enjoying the newly improved, aggressive good looks of your car in no time.

Will the MMD Trunk Emblem pre painted fit once the Speedform Decklid Blackout Panel is fitted?

    AlexL

    • No, The MMD Trunk Emblem Surround - Pre-Painted for the 05-09 All Mustangs will not fit directly on the SpeedForm Decklid Blackout Panel for the 05-09 All Mustangs without custom modification because it will not fit flush against the raised panel. https://www.americanmuscle.com/painted-rear-emblem-cover-0509.html

How do I fix the misaligned cutout hole for the deck emblem? It hangs over the edge on the right side of the deck and leaves a gap on the left side.

    Anonymous

    • If this product is not aligned properly, it's a matter of identifying as to why, and honestly it comes down to one of two scenarios: 1. The product was miss-manufactured. 2. Your Mustang has a slight imperfection that is only noticeable during the installation of a decklid panel. To expand upon the second scenario, we manufacture this decklid panel to fit all Mustangs between 05-09. The idea is every single panel has the same exact dimensions every time its manufactured. Now, if your Mustang came out of the factory with your emblem a quarter or an 8th of an inch off center, or something along those lines, it is virtually unnoticeable until you go to apply what is effectively a very generalized template (this decklid). However, to begin the process of figuring out whether scenario 1 or scenario 2 is the culprit for the issue, it would require giving out customer service center a call. So unfortunately there is no "fixing" the product. It's identifying which of those two issues is the cause and acting accordingly. Option one is a simple replacement. Unfortunately if it is option 2, there is no simple solution.

Would it be a good idea to add some 3M tape around the emblem hole on the deck lid cover to keep dust and dirt out? I saw in one of the reviews about it catching some dirt...once I install it, I don't want to have to take it off to clean behind it.

    BradK

    • The emblem surrounds the opening for the Decklid Blackout Panel, however, some extra 3M tape would not hurt.

once it's applied with the double sided tape, can it be removed and readjusted? or is it permanent and do i risk messing up the paint trying to rip it off?

    vic

    • You can take off this Decklid Panel after you've installed it. But you need to be very careful while taking it off to make sure no paint is removed. Before installed the Panel, you can index the position of it by using painter's tape. This will help in finding the perfect spot for it.

how can i give it that matte look that they display in the photo. Mine looks far glossier and a light black

    quinker19

    • If you want that matte look just get one can of plasti dip and the panel can be on or off the car. just spray it down till you are happy, see some videos for advice and you will get that great matte look you are going for.

Re-attaching Can you remove this and reattach it? I would love to get one now but i plan on painting my car within the near future. Would it be better to go with the magnetic one?

    jamesbond

    • I had the magnetic one before this one and for the short term definitely go with the magnetic piece. The magnetic one should last 2-3 years. The self adhesive tape on the plastic unit is meant to be relatively permanent and will be tough (but possible) to remove from the car.

      Wish it fit better

I love the look of having the blackout panel, however when I went to fit this to my car, there was about a quarter of an inch gap on the left hand side and an eighth of an inch gap around the GT logo. I honestly wish it had fit better.

      Good Luck.

I took my chances after reading some reviews about it not fitting. I was one of the unlucky ones. The hole was not centered on the piece I got. Would have looked great if it fit right. Not sure why this is over 20 bucks. For 70 dollars you'd think it would be better fitting.

      Great product!

The deck lid panel was a great upgrade on the look of my S197. I couldn’t be any happier about it. I would recommend it to anyone who is trying to modify the exterior of their S197. Makes a HUGE difference in style

      Over priced piece of plastic

They call it a blackout panel when it's transparent, the fitment is bad all around and the cuts on the side are not straight. Defiantly over priced for what you get.

Nice depending on color of mustang

Don't buy if you have a ALLOY or BLACK colored mustang. If you made the mistake of buying this with a alloy colored mustang then it is worthless. However, for other color mustangs it looks sick. It is a very high grade piece with outstanding quality but think twice about it being worth it with the color of your stang. I also liked the preinstalled 3m tape

      Looks good

The Decklid looks good, only thing is that I did not place it correctly the first time so I had to remove it and replace it. This resulted in the tape not staying. This is likely not the tape's fault, it was not made to stick twice, so I guess just make sure you dry fit it to know exactly where it goes. The tape pealing is a easy fix anyway because you can buy new tape for $5 at any auto store.

      black out panel

guess its just my luck or something else, the panel is not perfect cut, once centered with the emblem I can clearly see the big gap between the left tail light and left edge of the panel while the right side is lined up with no issue

      Does not fit

The 1st one I got fit horribly and I though I just git a bad one. So I got another one and it fit the exact same way, just slightly better. The hole for the emblem is too big so you can see the color of your car around it, and it is too short on the driver's side. Not to mention the edges aren't even cut straight. This is a cheaply made product and the fact that the majority of the consumers are having the same issues should be a sign that they need to fix their product. If you are reading this I would go with the blackout panel at CJPonyParts. Its pretty much the exact same product, but it is cheaper and fits a whole lot better. Unfortunately, it is still not perfect but it is a lot less noticeable that this product.

      Bad product.

I have purchased many items from AM over the 4.5 years I've had my 2005 Mustang, ranging from 30 or so bucks to over a 1000...rims, tires, CAI, throttle body, tail lights, computer re-programmer, etc. I have been overly pleased with every product until now. I purchased this blackout panel to go with the Raxiom tail lights I bought a week or 2 prior. Wanted the shiny black look since it would match the lights. Much to my chagrin, the panel is not gloss black but rather a smoked clear. Not too good on a silver car. I could even see the tape underneath holding it to my Stang. On fitment, I lined it up with the center Mustang emblem. The panel aligned perfectly with the right side of the trunk lid, but left a noticeable gap on the left. After a few days, this really bothered me. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and proud of my ride, so I decided already to take it off and be at a loss for $70. Just to test a theory, since I knew I wasn't going to put it back on later, after I took it off I centered the panel on the trunk lid instead of the emblem. Sure enough I had my silver trunk showing on both sides of the panel. I suppose I better end this, if anyone is still reading. An AM staff replied to a customer's question that it was the fault of the Ford factory not centering the deck emblem correctly and not a problem with this panel. That is FALSE, as I proved by centering the panel on my trunk lid and not the emblem. Will post photos. I hope this helps.

      Great Piece

Literally can put on in minutes. Wash car thoroughly, then use what comes in box to clean off again before putting on the deck-lid. Fit is just a little off but not noticeable unless you literally stand behind and stare. Very satisfied with the quality overall.
