    Review & Installation Video

Hey everybody, Dave here with AmericanMuscle.com, and I’m here with the rear blackout panel, designed to fit all 05-09 Mustangs. If you’re looking for a blackout panel with some different styling cues from the rest, this one’s for you. This panel is great for anyone looking to give the back of their Mustang a meaner look, it’s made from injection molded plastic so it’s all one piece, this deck lid panel features a high gloss finish with a dark smoked look, and a perfectly sized opening for your emblem to stand out and shine. Installation is really simple, and it requires no drilling, and no bondo. You simply want to clean your deck lid thoroughly, then take and peel off the protective strips on the 3M tape already applied to the deck lid panel, line it up, and stick it on. It requires no extra tools, and installation should take you no more than a half hour. For a smoked out and aggressive style that looks great on any 05-09 Mustang, the rear blackout panel is the way to go.

Aggressive Style. Give your S197 Mustang's back end an aggressive, "blacked out" look with a SpeedForm Rear Blackout Panel. Goes great with other smoked or black accessories, especially tail lights or light covers, to give your 'Stang a standout appearance that will turn heads.

Premium Quality. This premium quality piece is made from injection molded composite for great looks and durability. It even features a round opening for your factory trunk emblem to show through.

Easy Installation. This rear SpeedForm Mustang blackout panel installs in less than 30 minutes and no tools are required. You'll be enjoying the newly improved, aggressive good looks of your car in no time.

Technical Note. This Mustang Rear Blackout Panel is only the center piece. Photo includes the taillight covers.

Will the MMD Trunk Emblem pre painted fit once the Speedform Decklid Blackout Panel is fitted?

    • No, The MMD Trunk Emblem Surround - Pre-Painted for the 05-09 All Mustangs will not fit directly on the SpeedForm Decklid Blackout Panel for the 05-09 All Mustangs without custom modification because it will not fit flush against the raised panel. https://www.americanmuscle.com/painted-rear-emblem-cover-0509.html

Will it be see through? I have a white mustang with smoked tail lights. I wanna know if this decklid panel will make it all black without any white showing through

    • Yes! I have a Grabber Orange Mustang and it completely blacks out the area it covers. You do need to beware of the fit, however. Mine was a little short on the sides and the Orange shows on the deck lid about 1/4" from the sides.

How do I fix the misaligned cutout hole for the deck emblem? It hangs over the edge on the right side of the deck and leaves a gap on the left side.

    • If this product is not aligned properly, it's a matter of identifying as to why, and honestly it comes down to one of two scenarios: 1. The product was miss-manufactured. 2. Your Mustang has a slight imperfection that is only noticeable during the installation of a decklid panel. To expand upon the second scenario, we manufacture this decklid panel to fit all Mustangs between 05-09. The idea is every single panel has the same exact dimensions every time its manufactured. Now, if your Mustang came out of the factory with your emblem a quarter or an 8th of an inch off center, or something along those lines, it is virtually unnoticeable until you go to apply what is effectively a very generalized template (this decklid). However, to begin the process of figuring out whether scenario 1 or scenario 2 is the culprit for the issue, it would require giving out customer service center a call. So unfortunately there is no "fixing" the product. It's identifying which of those two issues is the cause and acting accordingly. Option one is a simple replacement. Unfortunately if it is option 2, there is no simple solution.

Would it be a good idea to add some 3M tape around the emblem hole on the deck lid cover to keep dust and dirt out? I saw in one of the reviews about it catching some dirt...once I install it, I don't want to have to take it off to clean behind it.

    • The emblem surrounds the opening for the Decklid Blackout Panel, however, some extra 3M tape would not hurt.

once it's applied with the double sided tape, can it be removed and readjusted? or is it permanent and do i risk messing up the paint trying to rip it off?

    • You can take off this Decklid Panel after you've installed it. But you need to be very careful while taking it off to make sure no paint is removed. Before installed the Panel, you can index the position of it by using painter's tape. This will help in finding the perfect spot for it.

      Horrible Fit!

Looks great from a distance. Unfortunately, the decklid I received was warped, and the emblem circle "cut out" was an oval instead of a circle. I used black electric tape to cover the sides and area exposed by the poor cut. Pretty disappointed, AM usually has ships better products than this!

Not very happy. The material is made out of the plastic that the window deflectors are made of. Not solid black. Its about a 1/4 inch too short on end to end.So the tolerance on these are bad. Also the circle for the emblem on the trunk the hole is to large. From a distance looks good. Other than that. It was about a minute install.

      A little disappointed

The blacked out look is great. However the iece is @ 1/4 toonarrwo to fully cover the panel. Mine has a bulge on one side that will not flatten out. Molded wrong. It looks "OK" I hate to take it back off the car to get it replaced. Should not have needed to.

      doesn't fit

I knew this was going to be clear and not full on black, and i kind of knew it was too expensive for the material it's going to be like, but it also did not fit or flush right on the edges or emblem and that's why you shouldn't buy this

I knew when I purchase this piece it would be off by a third of an inch. I've read all of the reviews and they all say the same. I was able the customize it so it would work. I like the piece and it goes very will with my blacked out tail lights that I also purchased from AM. SpeedForm really needs to rework this product.

Sadly, the panel doesnt fit correctly. You can see gaps around the edges. I decided to buy vinyl and wrap the back instead. Turned out perfect.

      Almost perfect

This panel was extremely easy to line up and put on, and looks amazing in the shade and at night. My only problem is that it wasnt literally a black plastic panel. It was clear and tinted. So on my alloy mustang in daylight didnt look dark black like all of the new mustangs, it had more of a gray tint to it. Which was disappointing for 70 dollars.

      No like

First I was surprised with how thin it was. I had one previously that fit well and was about 1/4” thick, not sure where it came as it was on car when I bought it. Wish I had it back. Anyway, this one is thin, poor quality as it does not line up as previous one did. Center hole is not on center and to big. Sent it back! AM should find a new vendor for this or a new purchaser and do testing with these before selling.

      Poor Fit overcome with Creativity

I read the reviews on this product and noticed 3 things. 1) One shot at install due to 2-sided tape 2) Panel is opaque and color shows thru 3) Poor fit around emblem and too short to cover paint near lights. I have some tips. A) Remove 2 sided tape altogether. Wash with dawn. Go to hobby store and buy 1 inch self adhesive magnetic tape. Now you have infinite tries to mount. B) Tape off front, tape off magnet strips. Paint back with glossy krylon fusion paint for plastic. c) Use black flexible door edge guards on hole to close gap and emblem and sides!

      terrible

This piece could be cool but it is not dimensionally correct and leave ugly gaps around the GT logo and on one side. Not worth the money, and I am returning it.
