    Review & Installation Video

Hey everybody, Dave here with AmericanMuscle.com, and I’m here with the rear blackout panel, designed to fit all 05-09 Mustangs. If you’re looking for a blackout panel with some different styling cues from the rest, this one’s for you. This panel is great for anyone looking to give the back of their Mustang a meaner look, it’s made from injection molded plastic so it’s all one piece, this deck lid panel features a high gloss finish with a dark smoked look, and a perfectly sized opening for your emblem to stand out and shine. Installation is really simple, and it requires no drilling, and no bondo. You simply want to clean your deck lid thoroughly, then take and peel off the protective strips on the 3M tape already applied to the deck lid panel, line it up, and stick it on. It requires no extra tools, and installation should take you no more than a half hour. For a smoked out and aggressive style that looks great on any 05-09 Mustang, the rear blackout panel is the way to go.

Aggressive Style. Give your S197 Mustang's back end an aggressive, "blacked out" look with a SpeedForm Rear Blackout Panel. Goes great with other smoked or black accessories, especially tail lights or light covers, to give your 'Stang a standout appearance that will turn heads.

Premium Quality. This premium quality piece is made from injection molded composite for great looks and durability. It even features a round opening for your factory trunk emblem to show through.

Easy Installation. This rear SpeedForm Mustang blackout panel installs in less than 30 minutes and no tools are required. You'll be enjoying the newly improved, aggressive good looks of your car in no time.

Technical Note. This Mustang Rear Blackout Panel is only the center piece. Photo includes the taillight covers.

Will the MMD Trunk Emblem pre painted fit once the Speedform Decklid Blackout Panel is fitted?

    • No, The MMD Trunk Emblem Surround - Pre-Painted for the 05-09 All Mustangs will not fit directly on the SpeedForm Decklid Blackout Panel for the 05-09 All Mustangs without custom modification because it will not fit flush against the raised panel. https://www.americanmuscle.com/painted-rear-emblem-cover-0509.html

How do I fix the misaligned cutout hole for the deck emblem? It hangs over the edge on the right side of the deck and leaves a gap on the left side.

    • If this product is not aligned properly, it's a matter of identifying as to why, and honestly it comes down to one of two scenarios: 1. The product was miss-manufactured. 2. Your Mustang has a slight imperfection that is only noticeable during the installation of a decklid panel. To expand upon the second scenario, we manufacture this decklid panel to fit all Mustangs between 05-09. The idea is every single panel has the same exact dimensions every time its manufactured. Now, if your Mustang came out of the factory with your emblem a quarter or an 8th of an inch off center, or something along those lines, it is virtually unnoticeable until you go to apply what is effectively a very generalized template (this decklid). However, to begin the process of figuring out whether scenario 1 or scenario 2 is the culprit for the issue, it would require giving out customer service center a call. So unfortunately there is no "fixing" the product. It's identifying which of those two issues is the cause and acting accordingly. Option one is a simple replacement. Unfortunately if it is option 2, there is no simple solution.

Would it be a good idea to add some 3M tape around the emblem hole on the deck lid cover to keep dust and dirt out? I saw in one of the reviews about it catching some dirt...once I install it, I don't want to have to take it off to clean behind it.

    • The emblem surrounds the opening for the Decklid Blackout Panel, however, some extra 3M tape would not hurt.

Will it be see through? I have a white mustang with smoked tail lights. I wanna know if this decklid panel will make it all black without any white showing through

    • Yes! I have a Grabber Orange Mustang and it completely blacks out the area it covers. You do need to beware of the fit, however. Mine was a little short on the sides and the Orange shows on the deck lid about 1/4" from the sides.

once it's applied with the double sided tape, can it be removed and readjusted? or is it permanent and do i risk messing up the paint trying to rip it off?

    • You can take off this Decklid Panel after you've installed it. But you need to be very careful while taking it off to make sure no paint is removed. Before installed the Panel, you can index the position of it by using painter's tape. This will help in finding the perfect spot for it.

      Don't do it

I knew it was transparent and I have a Grabber Orange GT so I was going to put a wrap on it to make it a solid gloss black look. So I took time to take off my previous honeycomb decklid cover to replace it with this one. I took it off just to find out that the new one does not fit flush like the old one. Its too far over on the passenger side so the driver side has a gap. The driver side wasn't even cut straight on the side. Don't get this.

      No tolerance

Poor fitment like they didnt even try and take measurements. The hole for the trunk emblem is off at least a 1/4 and the overall length is too short for just a piece of plastic it is extremely over priced and do not recommend

      Simple design bad execution

The panel is a smoked translucent plastic. Once installed it looks great except for the fact the fitment is terrible the hole for the faux gas cap is off by half an inch. I made it work but can see where it doesn't line up instantly

      Looks good!!

Product does its job and has good quality 3m tape on it. Tips for install start peeling a corner of the tape without pulling all the way off. Line up panel where you want it to be, then pull the tape tail from behind while holding it up. This helps not move the panel off and have a potential to miss align it.

      To much money.

Cost way to much for the quality of product. I have done the same thing with a 5 dollar can of plasti dip. Also my car is white and the plate was transparent so I had to plasti dip it to darken it and I also had to dip around the faux gas cap because of the poor fitmit around it.. poor product but after I modified it it looked ok

      Nice idea, fair execution!

Panel looks ok, not sure why it's transparent smoke instead of black. Tape didn't stick in one spot, annoying. Fitment is a little off, could be my badge is misaligned a little??

Makes It Look A Lot More Mean

Wanted to make my 05' GT look more aggressive but not too "rugged". The slick finish is nice and the fitting is ALMOST right but some parts of the trunk lid edge still stick out despite my best centering. This piece is also NOT completely opaque. An afternoon of painting it over with Rustoleum High Gloss Black paint gave it the look it SHOULD have had, in my opinion. Its a better value than vinyl skins because you can reuse this again after you take it off. Overall, I'm still happy with my purchase even if it meant repainting it.

      Loose

The blackout panel works to give a clean blackout look but you can see through it so your body color needs to be painted black in order to see a solid black color. Also I had to add additional adhesive to keep the panel from coming loose. The existing adhesive strip are not enough, unless you don't drive your car much.

Absolutely love this addition to my girl. Took about 5 minutes to put on and the 3M tape seems to have it secured pretty well. Highly recommend.

      Solid

Although the 1st one arrived broken (bent too far), they were quick to send another. I will advise that the tape used, even in ideal conditions won't last long in hot and humid weather. I suggest replacing the adhesive with double sided gorilla tape before applying it.

      Not quite perfect.

Installation is simple, BUT... when centered on the center emblem, the panel extends to the right edge of the trunk lid, but falls 3/8” short on the left side exposing a sliver of body color paint. A little disappointing.
