All new for 2005, the 2005 Mustang Convertible expands on the huge success of the coupe by dropping the top. Since the coupe and convertible were designed side-by-side, the chassis was built in such a way that the roof could be removed with a minimal loss in structural rigidity. This means the 2005 Mustang Convertible didn't gain the 200-300 pounds other cars do when becoming convertibles, and therefore it performs almost identically to its coupe sister. The 2005 Mustang Convertible is available with two powerplants, a 4.0 L SOHC V6 which produces 210 hp at 5250 rpm and 240 ft/lbs of torque at 3500 rpm, and a 4.6 L SOHC V8 which produces 300 hp at 5750 rpm and 320 ft/lbs at 4500 rpm. The latter engine is capable of propelling the 2005 Mustang Convertible from 0 to 60 mph in about 5.1 seconds and on through the quarter in 13.8 seconds.
