      Product Information

Features, Description, Reviews, Specs & Installation

      • Ford Racing Quality
      • Strong Forged Construction
      • 3.73 Gear Ratio
      • 8.8" Ring Gear Diameter
      • For Street or Track Use
      • Fits 1986-1993 GT and 5.0 LX Mustangs

Improve ET's and low end torque. Are you looking to get more low end grunt off the line and lower ET's at the same time? Then look no further than installing a set of steeper gears in your Pony. Ford Racing Ring and Pinion Gears are perfect for street, road, or race use.

Superior Quality. These Ford Racing 3.73 Mustang ring and pinion gears feature a super strong forged construction, CNC cut & lapped gear teeth, and a black oxide finish to resist corrosion.

Recommended Upgrade. Changing the rear axle gear ratio will throw off the calibration of your Mustangs speedometer, but a new Speedometer Gear is an inexpensive way to fix this issue.

Application. This Ford Racing Ring and Pinion Gear set will fit all 1986 to 1993 V8 Mustangs including the GT, 5.0 LX and Cobra models. A master bearing kit is recommended by most installers, especially on high mileage vehicles, see drop down option above.

Technical Note. Installation costs will vary, but a good rule of thumb is between $250 and $300. Be sure to work with a reliable shop that you trust for installations. You can also save money on your installation labor by having your Trac-Lok rebuilt at the same time as your gears are installed, see drop down option above.

        I Prefer Ford Performance

I have been building 8.8 rearends since the early 80s, I have used many brands in my time ,your not going to find a better Ring gear and pinion set for a 8.8 than Ford Performance ,thats a fact.

I love the higher gear ratio. Watching those rpms fly is so amazing. I also threw in a new set of 31 spline axels and a new LSD to really bring it all together. Only downfall is 2,300-2,500rpm or so at 70mph on the highway. But that's expected.

        FORD gears

FORD motorsports gears are the best gears for Mustang 8.8's. Have installed over 100 since 1992. Won't put anything else in a Mustang.

        Differential gear upgrade

Looking forward to driving my automatic LX, going from 2.73 to 3.73. Don't forget to change the speedo gear for the correct vehicle speed.

        3.73 Gears

I must say, this is an excellent buy. I personally had a shop install these gears for me. They're charging me $600 for the process, but I also had the whole rear-end rebuilt while they were installing these gears. It's recommended to rebuild the rear-end if your fox has over 60k miles on it. I also added a LSD (The differential) and 31 spline axles, for a little bit extra strength (They're a direct fit; something to think about if you still have them small 28 spline axles). Either way, these gears are spot on for the price. I noticed faster acceleration, and it was also a bit easier to break the rear tires loose, even with the Limited Slip. Definitely recommended for the price!

Ford Racing Ring and Pinion Gears 3.73s

Ford Racing Ring and Pinion Gears are a little more costly than some of the others out there, but you get what you pay for. Install is straight forward, and the rear end is nice and quiet. Best bang for the buck as far as performance gains go.
