Review & Installation Video

Hey everyone, Justin here with AmericanMuscle.com, checking out our very own Mach 1 style hood for all 05-09 Mustangs. This hood is inspired from the classic 71-73 Mach 1, and will add the same muscular styling to your modern S197, which is sure to set your ride apart from the others. Not only that, these functional hood vents help keep under the hood temperatures down by drawing much cooler air into your engine bay. All AmericanMuscle hoods feature quality craftsmanship at an affordable price, each one of our hoods has been designed and produced to the highest level of precision, ensuring a perfect fit every time, and made from the highest quality fiberglass. This hood does ship unpainted so you’ll definitely need to take it to your paint or body guy to have it prepped and painted to match your ride perfectly like what we’ve done with our 07 GT here. Now when it does come time to install your new hood you’ll find it extremely easy due to the fact that this hood utilizes both your factory latch and hinge locations, the first obvious step is to remove your stock hood, but when doing so, take the time to remove the two bolts holding your factory latch in place, and transfer it onto your new hood. Once you’ve done that grab a buddy and lower your new hood into place being careful not to scratch the paint. After you’ve done that simply tighten the floor bolts holding your new hood onto the factory hinges, and you’re done, everything should take you under an hour. This would also be a great time to check out a CDC squirter nozzle relocation kit as all our AmericanMuscle hoods don’t have any holes to allow for your factory nozzles, making for a much cleaner look. So if you’re a fan of the classic Mach 1 styling and you want to incorporate it on your modern day muscle car, then you’ll definitely want to check out our AmericanMuscle Mach 1 style hood for all 05-09 Mustangs.

Hood struts Can I use hood struts with this hood or do I have to use the prop rod.

  • As long as there is an inner frame you should be able to install hood struts. Most aftermarket hoods are made with a stock looking frame.

I would buy this hood but for one thing, I do not want open vents I want a screens in them. Do you happen to know how to fit screens to them ? Also think the washer relocation kits should be included with hood.

How much does this hood weigh compared to the factory hood?

  • The Mach 1 Style Hood - Unpainted (05-09 GT, V6) weighs 55 lbs boxed. The stock hood roughly weighs 30 lbs.

Is the inside dimensions the same as the stock hood? I have a Boss 302 Strut Tower Bar and it just hits the stock hood. I only need an extra inch in the inside height between the struts.

  • This Hood is raised a bit higher than the stock hood. Though, the Boss 302 Strut Tower is tall, so you may still have clearance issues.

Hood hit overflow tank. I recently purchased this hood and it hits the radiator overflow tank cap on the right side. Can someone PLEASE tell me how that was solved? I drive a 2007 V6 convertible. Thanks!!

  • Hey DrDennis, Unfortunately, yes. The slot does drop down too far and hit the cap. I avoided this by using two pieces of lightweight angle iron with a hole in each end. I simply moved the reservoir itself back about 1". I'd recommend going to your local metal fab shop and ask if they can either cut a piece of angle iron, or bend a piece of 14 gauge flat with two holes for mounting. Get them powder coated and you should be good to go!

Best hood I've seen come out of a box

When I got the box off the truck I was worried, I have ordered other hoods for other cars and even the high quality ones were damaged when they arrived. Not only was this one in perfect shape it has the most finished look of any of the fiberglass hoods I've used. This ain't your daddy's floppy 'glass! My dad, son and I put it on in about an hour, and that was with adjustments. Once I get it painted I'll put up some pics

    Great Product.

Great product and easy to install. I didn't have to do any blocking to the hood, just bake and paint. It saved me on prep time and cost. I did modify my hood, so I had clearance issue with the Raditor cap. Recommend getting the Windshield wiper (Squitter Nozzle) Relocation kit.

    amazing look and fit

hit a deer, so I decided it was a good chance to upgrade to a more aggressive hood. This one is definately an eye catcher and sets your car off from the rest. Would be amazing for a show car, and works good for a daily driver. I recommend actual hood pins; on a windy day passing a truck, the hood can catch a lot of wind and flare up. The inlet holes are okay, I would prefer they had a screen behind them to keep debris out of the engine compartment though. Looks like it came with the car from the factory, about to add two stripes behind the heat reduction ports to add to the aggressive look. I recommend to anyone and everyone.

    mach 1 style

Very high quality fiberglass, finished both sides. I get a ton of compliments on the car, mostly starting when they see this hood. Plus the open vents help to keep underhood temps down.

    Inlet screens or covers.

This hood looks great on my 09 but does anyone know where to find screens or covers for the inlet holes? It would be very beneficial to keeping debris out of the engine compartment.

    Old School!

My stock hood was starting to corrode, and instead of having it repaired, (again), my bodyman told me it's time for a new hood! Well, it wasn't hard to decide what I wanted, I had a 73 Mach I, and when I saw American Muscle's Mach I hood, I had to have it. I had the hood sent directly to the body shop I deal with. When they received it, I dropped everything, and ran over to see it. It looked fantastic, just like my 73's hood. My bodyman said it was pure quality, very little prep work to shoot the finish painting. Then I had him paint the scoop the way my 73 Stang was, it was pure heaven again. As far as the install went, I did that myself in about 1 1/2 hours, and that was only cause I had to prep the hood for the struts. Fit and finish was GREAT, couldn't of asked for a better product! THANK YOU American Muscle!

This hood too me all of 30 minutes to install once I got it back from the body shop. Simply transferred the factory latch and then 4 bolts later it was done. Closed hood and it fit perfectly! Even gap all the way around and it looks super sick! Highly recommend!!

    needs scoop inserts

Great style, great look great quality and fit. The one problem that AM needs to address is the open scoops directly over alt. and CAI. Im in florida where daily downpours are expected. My mech told me to find a way to plug em up or id be buyin a new alt..I believe AM should work with manufacturer to include inserts to slide in place when needed. Im using 1 inch pipe insulation with a sponge inside 'til i find a permanent solution
