Hey, guys, Stephanie with americanmuscle.com, here with a review and install of the MMD Pre-Painted Decklid Panel for all 2015 and newer S550 Mustangs. In this video, we're gonna talk about a few different topics when it comes to this decklid panel. We're gonna talk about the styling, the materials and construction, and the install as well. As usual, I'll go over the install in more detail later, but I can tell you right now that this is an easy install, and I'm gonna call it a one out of three wrenches on the difficult meter. The MMD Pre-Painted Decklid Panel is going to be for the S550 owners out there that are looking for a pre-painted decklid panel so the panel will match the car's paint instead of being black. This is also for someone that's looking to eliminate that trunk emblem and have a smooth panel out back. This is currently the only decklid panel for the S550 that comes pre-painted. This decklid panel's painted right here at AmericanMuscle, and we use the same base and clear coat that Ford uses themselves to make sure that this will match perfectly to your Mustang's color, so you don't have to worry about not matching your paint. The decklid panel does get rid of the factory trunk emblem, so you'll have a smooth decklid panel. It still maintains the backup camera, and you can see the spot for that right here. The other nice thing about this decklid panel is the install. This does not install with 3M tape, and it's a direct replacement of the factory panel, so there's no drilling involved. It takes the place of the original panel, and it's going to reuse the factory hardware. When it comes to materials, the decklid panel is made out of ABS plastic, which is typically used for exterior styling pieces. This is because it's lightweight, and strong, and long-lasting. ABS is used from anything like decklid panels to diffusers, to rocker panels, to chin spoilers and grilles, and it's very durable. As far as price, you can expect to spend $250 for this decklid panel. This is more expensive than the standard black decklid panel option from MMD, but that's because this is custom painted to match your car. You also have the option of going with a carbon fiber decklid panel, but that's gonna be about $50 more and give you a completely different look than the pre-painted and even the gloss black option does.I mentioned earlier that the install for this was easy and that I'm gonna call it a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. It should take you about a half-hour to complete the install, and you'll only need a few tools, like a flathead, something to remove a few bolts with, and a panel removal tool. The panel removal tool will help you get to the decklid bolts so you can unbolt it and separate it from the decklid. Then you need to unplug the backup camera. Once the panel's off the car, you can unscrew the camera so you can swap it over to your new decklid. The last thing you'll need to do is transfer over the clips from the factory panel to the new one so you can reinstall it. So you plug in your backup camera, clip and bolt the panel back into place, and replace the covers.Wrapping things up here with the MMD Pre-Painted Decklid Panel, this is currently the only pre-painted decklid panel that's available on the site. It has a smooth panel that'll eliminate the logo from the rear of the car, it maintains the backup camera, and it's a direct replacement for the factory decklid. You can check it out more online right here at americanmuscle.com.

MMD Deck Panel Adds New Look
Pre painted deck panel is a perfect paint match and fit. Really sets off the rear of my Mustang . I added a genuine 1965 Mustang gas cap In the center of the panel as a replacement for the pony badge.Helpful (0)

I've had this decklid panel on for about a year, and two of the four plastic pieces where the screws connect have snapped off. I'm always very careful not to open or close the trunk by this panel but rather the whole trunk itself. This plastic needs to be a bit more hearty if it's gonna last in hot environments.Helpful (0)

I’ve had this decklid on about a year and a half now. 4 dimples where the screws are and also a gap where the camera is. Just recently I’ve noticed two of the plastic pieces where the panel screws in have broken, just with daily driving, and now the panel is extremely loose on that side. Looked great while it lasted, just wish it would have lasted much longer.Helpful (4)

Installed on my 2018. Pro's smooth flat quality paint. Paint seems to be as good as my factory paint. Packaging was good. Cons Dimples! Two dimples on each side as others have stated. So total of 4 dimples. No clips come with the decklid. You must use stock clips. I ended up having to go to my local dealer to get 4 new clips. Regardless if I used the new body clips or the old ones, the decklid does not create a quality seem. The ends of the decklid are perfectly close to the top of truck lid, but the middle and center are wavy. Basically the IMO the foam that installed from MMD is pushing the decklid away from the truck lid. Also the MMD Decklid only using 4 clips/tabs, the factory has a few more tabs in the center to help the keep the gap and seem looking good. So I would suggest that MMD needs to revamp the amount of clips and tabs while also decreasing the size of the foam pads that are glued to the decklid. Of course they should also figure out why there are dimples? Sadly this was a waste of money. I'll keep it installed until I find a better option. Bottom line this decklid does not represent MMD very well.Helpful (7)

Super clean look.. I added a couple washes to the 7mm bolts to prevent the problem other reviewers had.. I love itHelpful (5)

The material feels super cheap and the 2 screws on each corner causes 4 dimples on your new lid waste of moneyHelpful (8)

Lean to Mean
I am really please with the MMD Decklid panel the Oxford White is the perfect match. And the perfect fit. Having the Decklid panel the same colour as the car gives the car a new mean look. I’ve made my car my own.......Helpful (6)

Would love to get this and the tail light trim in my color for my 2018Helpful (6)
I would like to keep the gloss black decklid I have but without the holes so I'm getting this one, what colors is similar to the oem one? Black or shadow black
To get the MMD Decklid Panel in a plain gloss black similar to OEM, Ford UA Black would be the color you are looking for.
Is this panel available in Guard Green ford code HN M7326? if not is available unpainted? There is now guard green in the colour selector??
The Guard (HN) color is available for the 2015 and 2016 models for this decklid panel.
Will this be available in Royal Crimson Soon?
At this time, we do not have an update on if the Royal Crimson color will be offered for the Pre-Painted MMD Decklid Pane
I have a California Special. Would I have to do any kind of cutting on the install because of the faux gas cap?
The MMD Decklid Panel would not fit the GT/CS without removal of the rear decklid emblem.
Is this offered in white platinum?
The MMD Decklid Panel in White Platinum (UG) is currently unavailable. We hope to have this available again soon.
The closest color match to the OEM black trim would either be the UA Black or G1 Shadow Black. Both will be very similar.
The MMD Decklid Panel would require you to swap the clips from your stock panel to the MMD for installation.
Shadow Black (G1) will not be the same color as Black (UA) and is not interchangeable.
This MMD Decklid Panel is a replacement deck-lid that will require the removal of your factory panel. You may be able to remove the original pony, however, it may be easier to acquire a new pony from Ford and adhere it to your new panel.
You are correct, the Decklid Panel will fit all Mustangs. Since this part is a Pre-Painted part, you would need to select your vehicle's year and then your preferred paint code.
You wouldn't have to remove the tail light trim to install the Decklid Panel on the car. This Pre-Painted part is a direct replacement of the factory one. If you are able to open and close your trunk and the factory panel is not hitting the Tail Light Trim, then you shouldn't have any fitment issues after installing the MMD Decklid Panel.
Yes, if you get the black paint code and anything we list as glossy black, they will match.
