    Review & Installation Video

Hey everybody, Dave with, and I’m here today with the Kaenen S281 style Saleen spoiler, shipped out unpainted and fits on all 94-98 Mustangs. Designed to have a perfect OEM fit, and made from lightweight fiberglass, this wing not only fits and looks great on your Mustang but won’t weigh you down in the process. Now what you should do is go ahead and have it test fitted on the car before you get it painted to make sure it does fit perfectly on your deck lid. Once you’re sure it fits perfectly, do what we did with our 98 GT, take it down the local body shop to have it prepped and painted to match your factory color. Included in the box is all the hardware you need for installation, and in fact, the most difficult part of installing this is going to be removing your factory wing. Once you’ve got the hardware out of there remember there’s still adhesive under the pedestals, take your time, remember this is meant to stay on there for years and years, but it will come off. Completely clean your deck lid of the old adhesive, before you go ahead and put your new spoiler on. From start to finish, you’re looking at about a 2 hour job. The sleek and cool styling of the S281 Saleen is by far one of my favorite car designs ever, and with this spoiler on the back of our 98 GT, I can’t help being reminded how awesome that car really is.

Saleen Inspired Style. Get the legendary good looks of the 1994-1998 S281 Saleen and add downforce for better traction at high speeds with the SpeedForm S281 Rear Spoiler.

Premium Quality. This wing is made from durable, lightweight fiberglass so it won't weigh you down. Made with superior precision, this wing fits like an OEM part - unlike cheap imitation products which can be a headache when it comes to making your ride look factory perfect.

Fitment. This SpeedForm S281 Saleen Style Spoiler is designed to fit all 1994 to 1998 V6 and GT Mustangs, as well as the 1996 to 1998 SVT Cobra. Does not fit 1994-1995 SVT Cobra models.

Technical Notes. AmericanMuscle recommends professional installation of all body parts. We also recommended test fitting these products before they are painted. Additional hardware may be required for installation.

This covers the holes in the stock spoiler correct? How does it mount? Would I need to drill more holes in the trunk?

        • Yes, this covers up any holes that your stock spoiler would have left. The spoiler reuses the 4 factory bolt holes as well as quality double sided tape when you do the install. There should be no need to drill any more holes in your trunk lid to install this spoiler.

My Mustang is currently wingless. Does this wing include mounting templates?

        • Unfortunately this spoiler does not come with a mounting template. Professional installation is recommended to assure the wing spoiler is properly aligned and mounted.

Misleading Pics: Beware that Customer Pics shown are likely pics of the Kaenen (previous supplier) as well as SpeedForm S281 spoilers (Current supplier). Look thru all of them and you will see the difference. When I searched for "Kaenen S281 spoiler", an American Muscle web page appears: ( It is however, accurately listed as SpeedForm just below but still says Kaenen. As you can see when scrolling thru the customer pics, some spoiler left and right edges hug the body lines while others do not. The pics of the Blue mustang in the product description appears to have the Kaenen S281 style spoiler. The SpeedForm S281 style spoiler that I ordered had such a big gap that my wife could place her hand between the spoiler and the top of the fender near each sides tip. The rear most edge seemed slightly more flat or seemed to lay down more than the Saleen and Kaenen did. Lastly the intended mounting holes formed in the wing appeared to have had sheet metal screws placed in during the forming process sheet metal screws were supplied for mounting hardware. The Kaenen brand uses 1/4-20 thread inserts and 1/4-20 bolts included. The holes in the SpeedForm spoiler did not line up for 3 holes in my trunk lid and the one that did was only half showing. I believe the spoiler that I received was not just a bad rarity, as I've seen many reviews here and on other sites mentioning the same issues. While I do not know why American Muscle doesn't partner with Kaenen any longer, I really wish they would. I had to call Kaenen directly to get a great fitting spoiler. My American Muscle customer service experience was great. The rep was very polite and thorough. She handled my return and refund with no issues.

            Doesn't follow body lines.

In the pictures, it follows the horizontal body line on the rear quarter panel but both of the ones that I received didn't. The first one didn't look align well at all so I sent it back (no problems with customer service). The second one was better but still didn't look like the pictures.

            Pretty decent spoiler...

Like it way better than the stock GT wing. Spoiler is pretty nice, but forward locating holes are "off". Mine had 2 small depressions requiring minor filling. The contoured ends over the quarter panels are a bit different R vs L, a little work required there. Comes in a light grey primer, with sheet-metal screws for mounting; I'm epoxying studs after correcting the mounting locations. The rubber seal provided is a nice touch.

            I returned item

The spoiler was of low quality. I have bought another spoiler from AM for my other mustang (fox), and it was excellent. It had metal inserts, to take machine screws, and it bolted up in the correct spot. This spoiler had no inserts. It just had small, almost like wood screws, screwed straight into the fiberglass. Where they were screwed into the spoiler didn’t fit the factory holes in the trunk.

Fit was good. Would have preferred it to have bolts like original. Made my own attachment. Otherwise great product. Little sanding is all it took to paint.

            What a BUMMER.

Look I expect to get good product the first time and this item was sub par. Looks fine but holes were way off fit was somewhat off and I must drill into the center to draw the fit down flush as theres an 8th inch gap. AND the mounting boss points - a joke - there is some aluminum plating on the boss mount areas but how much as others mentioned there is plastic screws - not even self tapping to bite into fiberglass - thats wrong, bad fab, bad glass layup. Just a real bad feeling getting all excited then half witting an install - getting one of the bunk parts..

            Terrible fit

None of the mounting holes matched up with the factory spoiler mounting holes in the trunk lid. Ended up sending it back. American Muscle is a great company.. They let me return it no questions asked.

1 1988 GT - Kevin Installation Time: Afternoon

            Subpar quality

The last one I ordered was much better quality but a different manufacturer. Ends were several inches off the quarters and stick up off the car. Not flush. The old ones has inserts for bolt holes and lined up with the trunk holes. This one just has self tapping screws and they are close to lining up with the holes. The quality is just overall not up par. I ordered this for a customers Saleen and ended up fixing the crack oem wing instead of this.

            Looks great!

I got this spoiler as a Christmas present and I love it. It was $350 for me to get it painted but it was well worth it. The holes that were drilled in the spoiler did not line up with the factory holes in the trunk so I had to drill new holes in it but that wasn't too hard. It looks much better than the stock spoiler and it adds a lot to the back end. Install is a 2 person job, but it didn't take very long.

            Saleen style spoiler

The spoiler holes didnt match up on ANY of my trunk holes. The wing came with extra lines engraved in it ....someone needs to learn how to sand properly. Over all a bad investment.
