Man 1: The C&L Cat-Back that we have here today will be a great option for the 2018 and/or non-active GT owners looking for a premium build and premium sound, but at a very budget-friendly price point. Now, interested S550 owners can look forward to a full stainless steel build throughout, including the straight-through perforated tube muffler design and included X-Pipe, all exiting out the quad 4-inch black tips, offer right around that mid to high $800 price point. Install according to the site, guys, is gonna get a pretty solid two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. And take a couple of hours or so to complete from start to finish as we'll demonstrate later in the video. But as is tradition, let's just jump right into the sound you can expect with the C&L bolted up. And at the top of the video, guys, you heard our sound clips, both the revs and the driving. And what I would say is that this thing is strong, it's healthy, but it's not ridiculous, and it's certainly not over the top.And that's one of the things I do enjoy most about the C&L Cat-Back. Listen, if you want to be the loudest car at the next show or on your block, well, there will be more aggressive systems out there. But if you're looking to make just enough rumble to know that the car's not stock and then at the same time you're not driving the wife or the neighbors crazy, well, then the C&L might just be the one for you. So, breaking out my patented wake-the-neighbors scale, I got the C&L coming in at a strong three out of five on my one to five or one to wake-the-neighbors scale. Now inside the car, on the other hand, things do remain relatively quiet. A little bit of noise at cruising speed, but that is the case with most of your aftermarket systems. But with the sound covered, what do you say we move into the quality and construction? And guys, the C&L is going to offer a solid build, and one of the most affordable full stainless options for this particular gen and for the 5L power plant. Now, you can't expect the 409-grade stainless to be exact here, for most of your components here. Mid-level material, behind 304 grade on the top end. And then, of course, you got the Illumina steel rounding out the bottom end. Now, the 409-grade stainless, which is what we have here, again, solid material. It's gonna offer great corrosion resistance and should essentially last you the life of your S550. But aside from the material, you're also gonna be looking at 3-inch mandrel bent tubing included throughout here, guys, which as an added bonus as you can see, is kind of given this nice little polished treatment from tip to tip. And that's something you don't always see with other even more premium Cat-Backs on the site. Now that 3-inch tubing does lead through the included X-Pipe right here and also into the twin polished mufflers. You got that straight-through perforated tube design again. This is a design I really like because it's going to allow for a very free-flowing setup. But at the same time, that perforated tube is gonna take some of the edge off of the more traditionally raspy coyote.Last but not least here, everything is going to exit out of the quad 4-inch tips, which do fill out the rear balance nicely. And as you can see, they are in black. Now this kit does include the black tips, but if you prefer a more traditional look, well, we can always go with that polished kit instead from C&L, which is also available here on the site for the same price point. Now, before we get into the install, guys, I do wanna mention that C&L does include all of the clamps, along with the step-downs necessary to make the connection at the factory manifolds there. In addition to removing those step-downs, if you'd like to work with aftermarket headers. Now this is a 100% bolt-on job here, guys, it is a cat-back, that is the case with most of these, if not all. So because of that, expect a pretty simple day in the garage. Obviously, you gotta get underneath the car a little bit, but either way, two out of three wrenches is what we're gonna call this one. Couple of hours to knock out from start to finish. Now, to give you a better idea of just how this one will go down on your S550 at home, feel free to check out our detailed walkthrough and tool breakdown now.Man 2: The tools you'll need for this project are an impact gun with a 15-millimeter socket, a 1/4-inch drive ratchet, a 13-millimeter socket, and an exhaust hangar removal tool. Hi, everyone. Today we're installing an exhaust on our Mustang, but before we do that, let's watch a short video on how to uninstall the stock system first, and we'll see you right back here afterwards.Man 3: All right, first up here, we're gonna loosen up the two clamps holding our factory resonator pipe or really the entire exhaust, to our factory headers. Now in order to do that, grab a 15-millimeter deep socket. And we're not gonna remove the nuts, just loosen them up a good amount so that they can move freely. All right. Next up, we're moving toward the rear of the vehicle. Looking at our rear subframe, there are two hangers holding the exhaust up to the subframe here. Now instead of trying to pop these hangers outta the isolators, because doing that and then getting them back in is gonna be pretty tough. Instead of doing that, we're gonna remove these two bolts from the frame and then twist down the hangers off the frame. So grab an extension and a 13-millimeter socket. I'm gonna go right over the rear sway bar and get these two bolts off.Once you have those off, lift up and unhook it, and bring it down. There's a little locking tab here that hooks right into that, so you're just gonna lift up and rotate it off. Next up, I got my buddy, Jared, to help me out here. This is definitely a two-person job. Have one person at the tips or the mufflers. I'm gonna be over here just tapping those clamps to the side, and we'll set it aside all in one piece.Man 2: The first thing we're going to do is install our two adapters, and we're gonna be reusing the two front clamps from our stock system. So we'll put these in and tighten them down with our 15-millimeter socket. Now we'll go ahead and slide a couple of our clamps over our adapters, making sure that the nuts are facing down and to the outside. Now, we can go ahead and install our X-Pipe, making sure that the support brace is towards the back and is on the bottom. Now we can go ahead and position our clamps over the end of the pipe, and we'll snug those up with our 15-millimeter socket. We don't want to tighten them all the way yet to allow for further adjustment later on. Now we can go ahead and snug up our clamps using our 15-millimeter socket. You don't want to tighten them all the way yet because we want to adjust it later on when we get the full system installed. Now, since we're gonna be reusing the hangers from the original system, we'll need to go ahead and take those off now and get them transferred over to the new system. And to do that, we're gonna be using an exhaust hanger removal tool. We simply clamp it on like so, and squeeze, and pull it off. Now, you may find it easier to put these on the new system by using a little bit of spray lube on the inside, and then we just go ahead and slide it on in the same position that it was on the old system. Now we can go ahead and slide a clamp onto our tailpipe here. And we'll go ahead and slide this into the X-Pipe and reattach the hangar using the original hardware, and then we'll tighten it down using our 15-millimeter socket. Now we can go ahead and snug this up, and we'll tighten our hanger up with our 13-millimeter socket. Now we go ahead and put a clamp onto our muffler and slide it onto the tailpipe, and then we'll secure the hangar with the original hardware. Now we'll tighten our hanger down using our 13-millimeter socket. Now, you can repeat those two steps for the other side before we put our exhaust tips on. Now we can go ahead and slide the exhaust clamp onto our tip, making sure, of course, that the longer of the two tips is on the inside and the shorter one goes to the outside of the car. Now, once you've got the tip installed, you can go ahead and snug it up with your 15-millimeter socket and do the final adjustment after you get the other side done. Now repeat that process for the other side. And that wraps up our review and install of the C&L Cat-Back exhaust with black tips, for the '18 to current Mustang GT Fastback without active exhaust. Thanks for watching and remember, for all things Mustang, keep it right here at americanmuscle.com.
