Do I need this if I already have an SCT Tuner? The BAMA tune form has a section for tire size and gear ratio, so my question is leaning towards: Is it really necessary for me to purchase such an item when I can get a free BAMA tune for my upgraded 4.10 gears? It just doesn't make sense to purchase the re-calibration tool if a customer already has a Tuner... if that's the case then it should be in the product description so that people aren't mislead.

    • That is correct. If you already have a tuner, you can just get an updated tune to account for the change in gear ratio. No need to purchase this as well; you just need one or the other.

I have a 1998 lincoln mark viii with 4.6 32v and a 4r70w trans. Putting in 4.10 gears, i am told I need a tune or it will not have the proper shift points. Could this device work for me?

    • Unfortunately we can not confirm fitment for the Ford Performance Speedometer Recalibration Tool on any other vehicles besides the 94-10 Mustangs.

After the transmission swap in my Cobra the speedometer is almost 120mph off. If I go around 25 the needle goes past 160. Could this tool potentially fix an error that large?

    • The Ford Performance Speedometer Recalibration Tool might help the problem. Though, depending on what year car you have, you may need to change the speedo gear as well.

I have a 1999 GT 5-speed that the speedometer is not getting the signal through the computer because the previous owner replaced the '99 T45 with a '97 T45. Will this Speed Calibration Tool allow my older VSS style transmission communicate with my newer OSS style computer/speedometer?

    • The Ford Performance Speedometer Recalibration Tool is designed to correct the throttle signal for changes in gear ratio and tire size, and would be unable to correct the issue you are having.

OK, so if you have an 05-9 V6 with auto trans and upgrade to a 3:73 rear you have to buy a tuner to recalibrate the speedo?

    • Hi, For a 05-09 you use either this recalibration tool or a Bama X4/SF4 Power Flash Tuner Item# 101200G056 to correct your speedometer after installing a 3.73 gear set. Here is the link

    • You should not have any issues using this calibration tool on an automatic Mustang. This product has been updated and issues have been resolved.

2002 Mustang GT Auto - Did Not Work

Installed as directions stated. Direction stated that when dials are all at "0" that speedo would show 45, mine showed 25. For 4.10 gears, set the dials to 080. Driving down the road, would fluctuate from actual speed. Speedometer needle would not just stay at the actual speed. Shift points no longer worked, would not shift correct. Would almost have to blow the engine before the transmission shifted to the next gear.

      Great Product

1995 Mustang GT 5.0 AODE This is a great product. The Ford Racing Speedometer Recalibration Tool works exactly as described. I installed mine in the engine bay near the firewall according to the alternate directions. I choose to solder everything and grounded to the shock tower. I have 3.73 gears and an unknown speedometer driven gear. To calibrate the speedometer I set the cruise on the freeway and compared the speedometer to a GPS (Iphone Dashboard App) and came up with a multiplier that way. This unit has very good resolution. You can get your speedometer exactly right. Very important if you have an automatic and want to re-tune your shift points as they are based on speed not RPM. Always confirm your grounds.

      New gears? You need this!

After reading some of these reviews, I was afraid I would waste my time & money on this item. I did some research prior to ordering, then after receiving the unit, I contacted Ford racing tech. The gentleman I spoke with made it a point to tell me to be sure to connect the negative lead straight to the battery! That piece of advice must have made the difference for me, because once everything was connected under the hood, my road test was spot on! I had installed a new 8.8 w/3.73 gears, moving from a 7.5 w/2.73 gears. I did the math, set the unit as instructed. The speedometer resumed it's correct speed readings, odometer was correct, without any oddities exhibited. Thanks AM for carrying this quality product from Ford Racing! Installation took about 1.5 hours to get a clean, unnoticeable addition under the hood. This is the only solution for 94-98 model cars. I like it for my '97!

i read the reviews, everything went like the others said. followed terrible instructions, finally got it to make speedometer to work, but it only sat at 25. driving speedo jumped all over the place o/d light kept blinking and shift points were off. i'm glad i didn't solder things till i tried it. i dislike the vague instructions,i dislike the fact it don't work. i need my speedometer to work. somebody has to get busy and fix the problem this item has with automatic trans.

      Works as designed!

I've read a few unfortunate stories about this product on the web, so I was a little leery of it. I ordered it anyway, as it seemed the best choice in terms of quality and reliability when compared to other similar products. Installation was a breeze in my 1997 GT after the wires were identified. It was installed under the hood near the firewall on the passenger side. Soldered all connections and grounded to the factory hood hinge ground bolt. This tool didn't seem to work during the initial drive. Speed readings were ridiculously high. I tried different calculations and settings, but nothing seemed to help. I began to wonder if my device was defective. After looking at the unit, I wondered why I assumed the unit was right side up in terms of setting the dials. There was no indication of what way was "UP" or "TOP". So I flipped the unit around and reset my dials. BINGO! NOW it was working! This was money well spent for me. Easy install, easy set up, quality product, works as designed!

      great costumer service

I never could get the ford speed cal to work right. American Muscle payed for return shipping and gave me a full refund. Will do businees with them again. Will probably just buy a gps from walmart that show speed and miles for about half the price of a speed cal.

      Speed Cal works

Works just as advertised. Simple installation, but directions don't state that you need to open the black box to access the 3 calibration dials. Beyond that, great product and recal'ed my speedo perfectly after 3.73 gear install in my 96 GT.

      Speedometer Recalibration Tool

Installed the Speedometer Recalibration Tool which corrected the speedometer, but the transmission shift points were not working, the over-drive flashes on the instrument panel. Not recommended to get this product for the automatic transmission 2006 Mustang GT with the 4:10 gear change.

      Too easy!

purchased and installed the calibrator in my '00 Manual GT. I have many extras and as often as i change my setup from street to strip this tool is a savior. I used the under hood method at the 16-pin connector becuase it just didn't seem practical to crawl under the car everytime I needed an adjustment. With simple wiring tools, and a little common sense, very easy. took me about 15 mins from start to test drive. As always, great product, great shipping, great genuine Ford Racing Quality, great purchase.

Worked with a mechanic to make sure that the tool is put in placed correctly. After checking all manuals, calling AM, referring to reviews and doing all the right things according to instructions, calibrations and calculations, the tool, unfortunately did not work on my '01.

Very nice. Have to tinker with it.

The box installs easy enough on the sn95, my only issue was I didnt install my rear end nor do I know what is in it entirely. There is an option to use mile markers and your odometer to calibrate the box, which is great if your sn95 is magic and the odometer works. I ended up starting adjusting the smallest frequency knob until my Speedo was in the ballpark range and then using a gps app to know my exact speed. I kept adjusting the knobs higher until I reached the correct speed. This involves a lot of driving and stopping and adjusting. Took me about 30-45 minutes to calibrate. But I'm dead on now and don't need an extra Gage in the car to know my speed.

      Ford Racing

This product works great I changed the gear ratio to 4.10s in my 2002 and it was off at least 20kph (i am in Canada) the only problem i had with this is that the instructions were for Sn95 (1994-1998) mustangs and because i didn't catch that i ended up wiring to the VSS (-) cable because ford changed the colours but i highly recommend checking out Ford Racing Website for all the instructions for your year of your car other than a mistake that was really my fault this product works great if you follow the right instructions should take no more than an hour great product .

      Very Good For 4.10 Gears

My 1994 Mustang GT came from the factory with 2.73 gears which I replaced with 3.55 gears with the matching speedometer gear shortly after buying the car 20 years ago. After replacing the 3.55 gears with a set of 4.10 gears I noticed that my speedometer was way off and there was no easy or cheap way to correct this problem until I found the Ford Racing Speedometer Recalibration Tool. The device was very easy to install and calibrate on my 1994 Mustang GT with a 5 speed transmission. The directions are very easy to follow and well written. I was able to get my speedometer to read within 4 MPH of being 100% accurate with the device installed. Well worth the money IMO.

      Bang On

After going from 2.73 to 3.73, speedo was way off. After installing this speed dial and calibrating for my gears and different tires height, the speedo is now Bang On. Compared to a GPS, within 1 km/h at highway speeds. A little pricy but worth spending the extra.
