Review & Install Video

Hey guys, Stephanie with AmericanMuscle.com. Here with my review of the Ford Racing Strut Tower Brace for 2015 and up GT Mustangs. The Ford Racing Strut Tower Brace is going to be for the non-performance pack S550 GT owners out there that are looking to tighten up the front end. A Strut Tower Brace is going to help stiffen the front suspension of the Mustang by providing added support to the strut towers and preventing flex during the cornering. This is going to make the chassis more rigid which will result in better handling because it'll be eliminating the flex from the strut tower so it will maintain a flat tire on the ground at all times giving you as full of a contact patch as possible. So the Strut Tower Brace's job is to keep the strut towers parallel at all times so there's no under steer. The main difference between this Ford Racing Strut Tower Brace and the other options that are currently out there for the GT is the fact that this is a triangular strut tower while the other options are a regular two point brace. The triangular brace ties in the firewall with both strut towers to give added stiffness here. This brace has a parallel beam design and a stainless steal construction. This is powder coated black, and even though a mod like this is performance based it's something that you're going to definitely notice whenever you pop the hood. So I think that it helps that it actually looks good under the hood and the powder will always keep it looking fresh. The Ford Racing logo isn't over the top either or too flashy so it works with the overall looks of the brace and that's stainless steel too so it won't be deteriorating either. And just a little something to keep in mind since this is stainless steel and already powder coated, you know that you can change the color of the powder coat if you want to make it pop or go with the looks of your car if you've got a show car. Keep in mind that like a lot of other suspension parts a Strut Tower Brace is going to make a noticeable improvement by itself even on a completely stock car. But as usual remember that this is only one component of the suspension, and the improvements of the brace can be even more considerable when you start pairing it with other suspension mods. Once you start making other suspension upgrades the Strut Tower Brace will work to keep everything tied together and feeling tight and more stable. This means overall more consistent suspension no matter what you're doing with your car. As far as price you're looking at spending between $150 and $200 for this Strut Tower Brace. Now there are some other options on the site for the GT, but I will say that this brace is on the more affordable side when we look at the current offering and prices. Both Steeda and Ford have a brace, and Ford's does look similar to the Ford Racing brace here, but that's no surprise. Steeda's version on the other hand is a tubular design, and you're looking at spending over $200 for both of these other options. If we move on to the install this is an easy install that anyone's able to tackle by themselves in the driveway or the garage, and should take less than an hour to complete. And I'm going to call it a one out of three wrenches on the scale. You won't need any tools out of the ordinary, but a torque wrench is something that you'll need for this, as well as a 15 mm socket and a ratchet, and possibly a two arm puller if you wish to do it by the book. But as we'll show you we managed to get around needing that tool. The instructions are going to tell you to remove the windshield wiper arms and cowl panel grill, but a few customers have noted that this is not necessary to complete the install. And you can see how we got around it. We pulled the plastic pins out of the cover and managed to sneak a wrench under the panel without having to remove it. This allowed us to avoid pulling off the wiper arms. The battery terminal will be in the way here so disconnecting that will make the install go easier. There are two strut bolts for each shot of the brace. The parallel part of the brace is going to sit over top the firewall part of the brace. You might happen to already have this firewall brace. It's up to you as whether you're going to pull the factory one and install the new one under the parallel brace or keep the factory one in place. If you're going to replace the cowl extension that will be installed first, and the new Strut Tower Brace will be placed over top of it. The bolts should be tightened to 41 foot pounds and the battery can be reconnected, and that's all that it's going to take. Wrapping things up here the Ford Racing Strut Tower Brace is a two piece Strut Tower Brace that creates a triangular design to really stiffen up the front end of the S550 Mustang and keep the strut towers as parallel as possible. It is the most budget friendly option that's currently available on the market, and it's a full stainless steel that's powder coated black so it has a nice appearance under the hood. It's very easy to install, and you can check it out more online right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Improves Handling, Reduces Flex. Reduce unwanted chassis flex and improve the handling of your S550 GT and EcoBoost Mustang by installing a Ford Racing Strut Tower Brace. The parallel beam design of this Strut Tower Brace adds additional strength to make your Mustang handle like it is on rails. This Ford Racing Strut Tower Brace is the same exact one that came as standard equipment on Performance Pack equipped Mustangs.

Ford Racing Quality. Manufactured from steel in a parallel beam design to keep your front end from flexing under the torque of your 2.3L EcoBoost or 5.0L V8 motor, this Ford Racing Strut Tower Brace is completed in a classic black powdercoat finish for durability, and features a stainless steel "Ford Racing" emblem for impressive under hood styling.

Application. This Ford Racing Strut Tower Brace is designed to fit the 2015-2017 GT and EcoBoost Mustangs. Not intended for use on V6 or supercharged models.

Technical Note. The Strut Tower Brace is not compatible with Right Hand Drive (RHD) Mustangs.

If you like black this is equal quality and strength to the shiny versions for a lot less money. You get the cowl brace as an added bonus, with new nuts. My 2015 GT with 20" factory rims already came with the metal cowl brace. I took it out anyway and compared. THEY ARE IDENTICAL: FOMOCO stamps, thickness, etc. You do not need to swap. If A.M. would sell an option of this without the cowl brace for around $100 this would fly off the shelves!

    finally something for the v6

There isn't a brace for the v6 model that I know of yet so I decided to give this one a try after trying the Mishimoto brace. And I'm glad that I did cuz it definitely fits my v6. The firewall brace fit perfectly; and that alone made a difference in handling...dont understand why ford just didn't make it standard in all models. After the installation of the tower strut brace though, the handling, the driving just got a lot more fun. Of course to make this mod work, I had to add spacers to clear the engine; not a problem just be sure to torque to specs and maybe use some locktite. BUT YES IT WILL FIT THE V6 MUSTANG.

    Worth it.

I usually take reviews with a grain of salt. But don't do that here. This is a 10 minute install. Because of your gt is like mine it already has the firewall brace so you just need the tower brace. Unfortunately you can't just buy that. So I have an extra brace for the firewall I don't need. But that's how they make money. So installation is so easy. Only thing you need to do is remvoe the battery cable. Max 10 minute install. For a novice. The 2015 ford has an accelerormater so idk why people don't just quote that for handling. My bloated gt premium pre install pulled .94 g's in the corner. Now I've done .99 still trying to hit 1.00. So 10 minutes makes a difference. The mustang after installation changes personality though. It use to be a fun , laughing , yet mean car. Now it's a no joke, serious businessman. Like it wants to go around a corner not fish tail around a corner. So if you want an improvement in sticking to the road this is for you. Really really like this. Could be $100 but still worth it.

    Ford Racing Strut Tower Brace

Easy to put on. Took about 1 hour but no problems at all. I know that the benefit is suppose to be tighter corners, and in fact that happens, but the major benefit that I have found is just driving on our rough roads. It smooths out the bumps and reduces the giggle in the front end to about zero, unless you hit a really deep pothole. Makes it much more fun to drive.

    Sure handleing

I had a strut tower brace in my 2010 v6 mustang convertible . I did wonders stiffening up the chassis on that and improved the handling by quite a bit . So it only made sense to me to get it for my 2015 convertible . I have the turbo 4 premium package convertible and it had that K brace part already from the factory so I only needed to install the strut tower brace . Took like 15 to 20 minutes . Got a nice improvement in handling just not quite as noticeable as my 2010 mustang . I'm thinking because the K brace was already taking care of some of the body shake over bumps and such . All in all well worth the money spent .

    Absolutely awesome!

Love it!!! Installation was easy just follwo instructions. Be careful when taking out the plastic pins from the cowl vent. One slipped from my fingers into the engine bay somewhere, never to be seen again. After installation it drastically magnified the LCF (Look Cool Factor). It added 10 horspower on looks alone!

Super easy install, instructions were right on. Worst part of the whole job was the little plastic plugs from Ford, they didn't want to go back in, ended up trashing them and buying new ones.what a difference, car handles like its on rails, very pleased.

Firms up my 'stang on the corners

Stock my car was a non-PP Premium model Ecoboost. Though the description of these parts state it's for a GT only, the Ford Performance page states that they fit ecoboost models as well, so I gave it a shot. It took a bit longer to install than I thought, but that's because I took my time. It was a bit under two hours to get it all done, and that dumb piece of plastic is now out from under the battery side, replace with a nice stiff piece of quality steel. I have a oil catch can on the driver side, and it mounts nicely under the top bar. Unscrewing the catch can to empty the oil may be a bit tricky, but it should be doable. (Though the top brace can easily be removed.) Note that you'll need a tool to remove the wiper blade arms for one of the braces. I rented one from my local auto store.

Buy this for your non PP trim

This strut tower brace kit includes both the strut tower brace and the cowl reinforcement bracket (and x4 strut nuts). If you bought a GT without the PP you will not have the cowl bracket. The bracket that is there is plastic and used to support the battery cover only. Get this combo kit over the other options out there unless you want to buy the Ford OEM cowl reinforcement bracket separately (part number FR3Z-16K038-A and msrp $177.82). The installation was a breeze and the strut tower brace looks awesome under the hood!
