Review & Install Video

Hey guys, Stephanie with AmericanMuscle.com. Here with my review of the Ford Racing Strut Tower Brace for 2015 and up GT Mustangs. The Ford Racing Strut Tower Brace is going to be for the non-performance pack S550 GT owners out there that are looking to tighten up the front end. A Strut Tower Brace is going to help stiffen the front suspension of the Mustang by providing added support to the strut towers and preventing flex during the cornering. This is going to make the chassis more rigid which will result in better handling because it'll be eliminating the flex from the strut tower so it will maintain a flat tire on the ground at all times giving you as full of a contact patch as possible. So the Strut Tower Brace's job is to keep the strut towers parallel at all times so there's no under steer. The main difference between this Ford Racing Strut Tower Brace and the other options that are currently out there for the GT is the fact that this is a triangular strut tower while the other options are a regular two point brace. The triangular brace ties in the firewall with both strut towers to give added stiffness here. This brace has a parallel beam design and a stainless steal construction. This is powder coated black, and even though a mod like this is performance based it's something that you're going to definitely notice whenever you pop the hood. So I think that it helps that it actually looks good under the hood and the powder will always keep it looking fresh. The Ford Racing logo isn't over the top either or too flashy so it works with the overall looks of the brace and that's stainless steel too so it won't be deteriorating either. And just a little something to keep in mind since this is stainless steel and already powder coated, you know that you can change the color of the powder coat if you want to make it pop or go with the looks of your car if you've got a show car. Keep in mind that like a lot of other suspension parts a Strut Tower Brace is going to make a noticeable improvement by itself even on a completely stock car. But as usual remember that this is only one component of the suspension, and the improvements of the brace can be even more considerable when you start pairing it with other suspension mods. Once you start making other suspension upgrades the Strut Tower Brace will work to keep everything tied together and feeling tight and more stable. This means overall more consistent suspension no matter what you're doing with your car. As far as price you're looking at spending between $150 and $200 for this Strut Tower Brace. Now there are some other options on the site for the GT, but I will say that this brace is on the more affordable side when we look at the current offering and prices. Both Steeda and Ford have a brace, and Ford's does look similar to the Ford Racing brace here, but that's no surprise. Steeda's version on the other hand is a tubular design, and you're looking at spending over $200 for both of these other options. If we move on to the install this is an easy install that anyone's able to tackle by themselves in the driveway or the garage, and should take less than an hour to complete. And I'm going to call it a one out of three wrenches on the scale. You won't need any tools out of the ordinary, but a torque wrench is something that you'll need for this, as well as a 15 mm socket and a ratchet, and possibly a two arm puller if you wish to do it by the book. But as we'll show you we managed to get around needing that tool. The instructions are going to tell you to remove the windshield wiper arms and cowl panel grill, but a few customers have noted that this is not necessary to complete the install. And you can see how we got around it. We pulled the plastic pins out of the cover and managed to sneak a wrench under the panel without having to remove it. This allowed us to avoid pulling off the wiper arms. The battery terminal will be in the way here so disconnecting that will make the install go easier. There are two strut bolts for each shot of the brace. The parallel part of the brace is going to sit over top the firewall part of the brace. You might happen to already have this firewall brace. It's up to you as whether you're going to pull the factory one and install the new one under the parallel brace or keep the factory one in place. If you're going to replace the cowl extension that will be installed first, and the new Strut Tower Brace will be placed over top of it. The bolts should be tightened to 41 foot pounds and the battery can be reconnected, and that's all that it's going to take. Wrapping things up here the Ford Racing Strut Tower Brace is a two piece Strut Tower Brace that creates a triangular design to really stiffen up the front end of the S550 Mustang and keep the strut towers as parallel as possible. It is the most budget friendly option that's currently available on the market, and it's a full stainless steel that's powder coated black so it has a nice appearance under the hood. It's very easy to install, and you can check it out more online right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Improves Handling, Reduces Flex. Reduce unwanted chassis flex and improve the handling of your S550 GT and EcoBoost Mustang by installing a Ford Racing Strut Tower Brace. The parallel beam design of this Strut Tower Brace adds additional strength to make your Mustang handle like it is on rails. This Ford Racing Strut Tower Brace is the same exact one that came as standard equipment on Performance Pack equipped Mustangs.

Ford Racing Quality. Manufactured from steel in a parallel beam design to keep your front end from flexing under the torque of your 2.3L EcoBoost or 5.0L V8 motor, this Ford Racing Strut Tower Brace is completed in a classic black powdercoat finish for durability, and features a stainless steel "Ford Racing" emblem for impressive under hood styling.

Application. This Ford Racing Strut Tower Brace is designed to fit the 2015-2017 GT and EcoBoost Mustangs. Not intended for use on V6 or supercharged models.

Technical Note. The Strut Tower Brace is not compatible with Right Hand Drive (RHD) Mustangs.

To the people w V6 who have installed this using the shim method, does it interfere with the Oil Dip Stick? Have you noticed any intake scrapes from rubber engine mounts letting eng lift into the brace yet? Mark

SPIKER

  • Never got an answer BUT I DID buy this and I DID install it on my V6 with no oil dip stick problem. I also did NOT use any shims, I put it into my Bearing Press and tweeked it some where I needed it. this worked out GREAT and it is bolted down TIGHT. I use some 2x6 braces and a 2x4 across the top to prevent it from kinking. have about 1/2 ~3/4" between eng intake and the bottom of the brace. I have not checked hood clearance other than knows it shuts tight

    easy install

The main reason I put it on is I had 1 on my 06 never had a rattle or squeak in the dash. I don't track my car, just wanted to firm up my front end.

    Feels like new again

I ordered this part after noticing that my car was starting to loosen up. Thought it would help a little, but it blew my expectations away and made it feel like it was fresh out of the factory again! Easy to install as well. Note if you are buying this for your V6 mustang you will need to separately purchase some washers as spacers so that the Strut tower brace can clear the engine without any rubbing.

    Must have

This was the first mod i bought. I wanted to stiffen up the front. This worked perfectly. I was disapointed when i noticed this wasnt stock. Suck an important mod to stiffen up the steering.

Cant tell a major diff in handling since I already had a k brace but it has helped with the cowl shake. Looks real nice in the engine bay too!

Super quick install and looks great

Installed in less than ten minutes. I have the performance package so the rear brace that runs to the firewall was already in place. Would be nice to be able to purchase these two separately. I spent less on buying the pair with the "Ford Racing" log on it than buying the aftermarket cross brace alone so not upset. Only issue I have is that the cross brace now interferes with access to oil separator catch can. As far as improved handling, I have not had a chance to really push it on a twisty road yet, but the Ecoboost with performance package and Pirelli P-0's already stays flat through corners and handles great. I will admit I mostly bought this to help dress up the engine bay some.

Looks good easy install definitely worth the price. I didn't have to disconnect the battery to do the installation I was able to lift the cable high enough to slide the brace underneath it.

    Straight forward install

I painted both braces red to match my theme. I taped off the center of the strut brace to leave black and protect riveted on plaque. You do NOT have to disconnect battery or completely remove plastic cowl cover to install same time and effort. It looks great and defintely stiffined up the front!!

    Great product

Good solid product. You have to sacrifice the small brown one time use nut that holds the positive battery cable (it does nothing cause u cant budge that cable if you wanted to). Other than that install was smooth and easy. Front end is noticeably stiffer. Definitely a good quality and heavier than you think. Two thumbs up!

Looks great but the part that goes back around the engine is already included on the performance package mustangs. I now have that part just sitting around without a home because it seems like a waste to throw away.

Easy install and tightened up the handling

I have an automatic that I drive with the paddle shifters and my wife drives full auto. That meant performance pack was not an option but I autocross the car and I really wanted the strut tower brace to tighten up the handling. This being a Ford Racing part means a lot to a guy like me who wants to stay as stock as possible and not resort to 3rd party sources for parts

    The difference can be felt

The strut tower brace is a significant improvement to the handling of my mustang. After the install took it for a ride to see if the difference, the turns were smoother and also did some cornering around curbs and there is better flow and rigidness to it.

    Of course it's great

20 minutes install, didn't have to undo the battery cable, a little tricky but do-able. Immediately noticed tighter handling and less body vibrations/noise. Looks great, works great. It's a genuine Ford Racing item, it's very high quality. I'm surprised how well the s550 negotiates corners at speed now, almost like my old 88' turbo II RX-7. I also have IRS cradle lock-out, sub-frame brace, and FRS sub-frame braces with the Performance Package as well. This tied everything together up front real nice. What good is a fast car if you can't take a corner? Brakes and suspension win races, going fast is just a by-product. Get this tower brace if you don't get anything else for your s550.

Easy install, K member factory seconds?

The good. Easy install. Instructions were printed, full color, and easy to follow. Fit perfectly, looks amazing. Took the car for a short drive, felt more planted and solid in the front end. Install took about an hour, including time to polish the crossmember and K brace. The bad: The crossbrace was perfectly packaged. The K member was perfectly packaged. However it looks like I got a factory second. The K brace had multiple knicks and chips in it, someone had dabbed black paint (poorly) on the spots. The black paint does not match and looks like it was dabbed on with a Q tip. More than a little disappointed. I applied polish to the brace. I will probably have to remove it at a later date and fix the botched paint, and respray. American muscle shipping was amazing, well done!
