    Reduce Transmission Temperatures. Do you beat your 6-speed manual Mustang like a rented mule on track days? All that shifting and excessive heat build up can really take a toll on your Pony's transmission. One way to reduce transmission temperatures is with a Ford Racing Manual Transmission Air Scoop Cooler. A Ford Racing Air Scoop is designed to direct cooler air over your Mustang's MT-82 transmission pan to help dissipate heat quickly.

    Simple Bolt-On Installation. Installation of the Ford Racing Transmission Air Scoop Cooler can be completed in less then an hour with just basic hand tools. This Transmission Air Scoop utilizes existing factory bolt holes found in the front sub frame, so no cutting, welding or extra modifications are needed for a simple straight forward install.

    Application. The Ford Racing Manual Transmission Cooler Air Scoop is designed as a direct fit performance upgrade for 2015-2017 Mustang equipped with the MT-82 6-speed manual transmission, including the V6, EcoBoost and GT models. Intended for off-road track use only.

    Technical Note. This Ford Racing Manual Transmission Cooler Air Scoop will need to be removed to perform routine engine oil changes.

      Great upgrade for track use

      The scoop only hangs about 1” below K member, so clearance is not a issue. I did need to use a step bit to open up the K member hole and scoop hole for the crush spacer to fit. The scoop also acts as a 2 point K member brace.

      Serves A Double Role!

      Not only is it a trans cooler scoop but the cross bar is quite large in diameter and very stiff/thick so it's kind of a subframe brace too. Happy with the design. No trackdays yet so I can't report on trans shifting when hot. It's gotta help though. I took off a star as I had to enlarge the lower rear holes to get the sleeves in them. Then I had to enlarge them further to get them to line up with the front subframe holes on the car. My car has never been in an accident so I was surprised by that. I have an early production car Oct. 2014 so that could be it. Or the Jig for the trans cooler scoop is off. Because of all this the install took a while. I would still buy it though. Just be sure you have a drill/bits, a rat tail file and maybe a small grinder/dremel tool handy as you may need them.

      Tight Fit

      I bought this because I had a transmission fail right at the end of my warranty and didn't want a second to fail on my dime. I tow a trailer while that was not called out as the reason for the transmission failure, I wanted to be safe. It tucks up nicely under the car. My only complaint is that the long crossbar holes are not spaced exactly in line with those on the chassis. You have to put both in before tightening either at all. This makes it take more time than it should to install but I'm getting better at it (it has to come off for each oil change).

      Essential for road racing

      The fitment is perfect, and the functionality is true. I don't have a means to measure the actual trans temp, but it takes the air, and forces it past the entire heat sink section. At slower autocross speeds this may not be effective, but Auto x really won't heat things up. The runs are too short. Where this part really works is road racing. 20 minutes of flogging your mustang heats it up real hot, and this I would say is necessary before you get into racing. Unlike the rear differential, there is no temp sensor to tell you things are getting too hot. Now if only ford racing would make a cooler kit for the rear diff.
