Does this one work for the acuator that has a gear on the outside instead of an arm? Both parts being sold dis play levers on the outside.

    • The OPR HVAC Blend Door Actuator will work to replace the defrost actuator only, which is located behind the glove box.

which actuator part number goes to which of the three? Assuming the two lower ones are Right Main; Defrost and Left Main; Panel/Floor but take the same motor. Then there is the upper right motor and don't know if it is the Main; Air Inlet or the Main; Automatic Temperature Control (ATC). Or I could be completely wrong on all of them. Helpful to learn which is needed for the lower right, upper right and then the left one beside the instrument cluster.

    • The Defrost door actuator would be located behind the glove box toward the right side. The Panel/Floor actuator will be located behind the instrument cluster. The air inlet actuator will also be located behind the glove box.

Are all three actuators in the 2008 Mustang identical to each other to replace all three?

    • The three actuators are all different. They cannot all be replaced with the same actuator.

      Review/How to for those needing

First off, I would like to thank American muscle. Good price and quick shipping. Second, this part is to fix the clicking behind the dash and/or the cold air blowing only through defrost vents in an 05-09 mustang (not sure what other newer years might share this same setup but I know these years for sure as mine is an 05). Mine started clicking but still worked but eventually went out and all my ac was stuck through the defrost vents. This part is the one that needs replaced. I replaced the air flap actuator, which is the one located slightly below, and still had the same problem. Replaced this part I am reviewing and it was fixed. This is a fairly difficult piece to replace. The actuator is almost at the top of the dash behind a metal bar so it is very hard to get to. My biggest piece of advice is lay on your back upside down in your passenger seat. After you take the console out with the four screws put it in the floor with a shirt or towel over it and use that to rest your head. Of all the awkward positions I tired this was the only one that I was able to actually make any progress. Something that is not addressed anywhere else online is the difficulty to align the arm back in its track. It took some troubleshooting but I found that i had to have my girlfriend turn the car on and off and as the arm went back and forth I had to align it with the track and then shove it into place firmly until the arm was done moving. Then screw in and you are done. Hope this helps, I looked for a long time on forums and such to diagnose and try to fix this problem and I was left confused, so I hope this can help someone out there get the job done quicker and easier. God bless and thanks American muscle!

      Confused

When I took my old one out it was more of a square shape and so the new one didn’t fit.

      Bad Part

This Dorrman actuator lasted only 2 months before the gear broke just like the 12 year old factory one. Go with the OE motorcraft part.

      Fits great

The part doesn’t look exactly the same as the OEM but it works just great.

Cheap solution for a common problem

The product is similar to the OEM and does the job. But keep in mind that it is buried deep in the dashboard (access from the glove box) and would take a lot of gymnastic skills to fit it correctly.

      Clicking stopped

Got my AC back. It would only click when switch was toggled and only came out through the window vents. This part fixed it.

      Fits

What can I say, it does its job. A bit lighter than the original so I guess I go incrementally faster as a result? At least I stay cool (or warm, depending) doing it. (Had to put 80 characters in this box to have it quit nagging me for a review every time I logged in.)

      Installation Tip

This is what I did, and everything works like a champ! As several have mentioned, limited space makes this install difficult. You can only get one hand at a time behind the dash... I used my right-hand to position the new part under the dash (feeling the actuator arm with my fingers to make sure it was engaging vent-slot properly). Once it's in position (make sure the small vertical tab is inserted in the slot just to the right of the bottom mounting hole). There's an area you can poke a medium-length screwdriver through, using your left hand, to hold the actuator. As you press with the screwdriver, relese your right hand and get the bottom screw started. It's all down hill from there! Snug the two mounting screws and plug in the unit. Now calibrate the systen by pulling the two fuses (10 and 12) and wait a minute (key off); make sure HVAC unit is off and turn key on for 30 seconds. Turn key off again and put the fuses back in, turn key on again for another 30 seconds. Test unit. If all good, put everything back together and enjoy the silent operation of your Mustang's HVAC system.

      Second replacement

This is the second replacement I've had to do to the same actuator over 1 year time. Its cheap and only takes two screws to install so can't complain.

Fixed that annoying tick, tick, tick noise.

This part is hard to install, especially for big people. I recommend taking the passenger seat out to make it easier to reach behind the dash. Follow the instructions and you will be fine.

      Air out the defrost!

Living in AZ it's a must to have all your AC directly in your face. This is the correct door actuator that is needed to fix this issue.

      Couldn't get this to work

The actual product is a good sturdy replacement, but couldn't get it to go after installing. It's the center one and is very hard to get in the right place

      Works good as new!

The product does exactly what it is suppose to do! Not hard to install if you have 1 inch wide hands lol. It's not really technical but hard to get to. The part is good quality and works well once installed!

      Saved me $400

When my AC started to act up it wouldn't stop making a loud noise for the first 5 secs after starting up. So I went to see how much it would cost to get it fixed and they were all charging me ridiculous amounts of money just to see what was wrong with it. They also said the part cost 60 dollars. Turns out it was 20 on here and the noise stopped once I figured it out myself. It was the exact part and fit perfectly.

Fixed that sound, alot harder or maybe just me

The item fixed my problem, cool awesome yay but overall for me not being super car savvy took forever to install. Honestly though this will fix your problem if you do it right, just took me forever. Mine was the far left on the passenger side *hardest one i think but if i can do it you can too!
