    Review & Install Video

Hey I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com and this is my breakdown of JLT’s Next Generation cold air intake, fitting the 4.8L V8 found in all 96-04 Mustang GTs. At first glance, the next gen from JLT is a no nonsense intake, and what I mean by that is, there’s no flashy finishes or big brand names stamped all over it, this thing is all business. Taking a closer look at the intake itself you’ll first notice this massive 4 ¼ “ molded plastic intake tube, that is one piece from the throttle body all the way down to the reusable high flow air filter. In addition you receive the MAF adaptor and also all the hardware and couplers to complete the package. This cold air from JLT places the high flow filter right in the inner fender well to try to take advantage of that cooler, denser air that will ultimately result in more horsepower, how much power exactly? Well, we’ll find out in a minute but first we’ve got to grab a quick baseline run on our automatic 2000 GT behind me. Installing any cold air intake is a task easy enough for the backyard to tackle, all you need is a set of basic hand tools and about an hour’s time to get everything bolted up properly. You should know that running a performance tune with the JLT is not required, but in order to see the biggest gains using this intake, we’re going to upload one of our custom Bama tunes. This tune is going to do a few things for us, it’s going to optimize our spark timings, get our air/fuel ratios right in the sweet spot, and really firm up the shifts on our automatic. Now that we have the kit installed and our tune uploaded here on our JLT, let’s turn the rollers one more time and see what the numbers are. For our baseline run on our automatic 2000 GT, gave us 222 horsepower, and 259 ft/lbs of torque. With our JLT installed and our tune uploaded, we were able to make 235 horsepower and 275 ft/lbs of torque, giving us a peak gain of 13 horsepower over our baseline numbers, and gains of 28 horsepower and 17 ft/lbs of torque throughout the curve. The Next Gen cold air from JLT is a simple and effective no tune intake, that yielded some nice results here on our GT, as well as making a visual improvement under the hood as well. Be sure to check it out right here at AmericanMuscle.com

More Usable Horsepower. With a JLT Performance "Next Generation" Cold Air Intake installed under the hood of your Mustang GT you can expect to see gains of up to 8-12 more horsepower at the rear wheels across the entire RPM range. In addition to an increase in horsepower you will also see an impressive improvement in throttle response.

Fender Well Induction. This JLT Cold Air Intake is designed to draw in cold air from the fender well, rather than the hot engine compartment. Which reduces the incoming airs temperature for better combustion resulting in more horsepower.

Money Saving Reusable Filter. JLT cold air intake kits come complete with a 4x6 high flow reusable S&B brand air filter. So that means there is no need to go out and buy a new filter every few thousand miles. Now you can just clean the filter, re-oil it, save money, and go!

Easy Installation. The JLT Performance "Next Generation" Cold Air Intake kit was designed to install with just basic hand tools. No extra modifications or special tools are required for an easy 1 hour installation.

CARB Certified. Best of all this Mustang JLT Performance Cold Air Intake Kit is 50-state smog legal under Carb EO# D-671.

Application. This JLT Performance "Next Generation" Cold Air Intake System is specifically designed for use on the 1996 to 2004 GT Mustangs equipped with the SOHC 4.6L V8 engine and does

not require re-tuning the vehicles computer for operation. Compatible with both 80mm and 90mm MAF's.

Ok, Just starting on my 2004 Gt 4.6 build. I guess this is a very basic, simple question, but exactly how hard is it, and what all is involved in cleaning and re-oiling the filter once this CAI is installed?

        • Cleaning and re-oiling the filter for the JLT Performance Next Generation Cold Air Intake is a very simple and straight forward task. This can easily be done with a recharge kit that can be purchased at any local auto parts store.

Just wanted to ask if this cold air intake would fit a larger maf housing or would I need an adaptor? I’m trying to get the most power I can with Bolt ons and I’ll be getting a jet maf sensor also if it all fits!

        • Yes you would indeed need an adapter if you are trying to install a larger MAF housing.

I just wanted to ask if this cold air intake would fit up with a larger maf housing? I was planning to buy this along with a larger maf and jet maf sensor and I have a superchips tuner

        • This can be used with a larger MAF housing yes.

The S B air filter for this kit. Do you sell this separately or can you advise on how to clean it?

        • We don't have the S&B air filter separately but to clean it, you will want to look into an Air Filter Cleaner and Re-Oil Kit such as https://www.americanmuscle.com/bbk-air-filter-cleaner-re-oil-kit-79117.html You remove the filter from your cold air intake and apply the cleaning solution. Then you need to rinse it off thoroughly. After you allow it to it to air dry you apply the oil to the filter and reinstall in the intake housing.

            Amazing product

Jlt is definitely a company that is all about quality and performance. Had this paired with a BAMA tuner and there is quite the difference in power and torque. Car breathes so much better. Only thing is the instructions aren’t all that clear as for installing the inlet air temp sensor cause didn’t say anything about drilling a hose or how big of a hole but other then that really good product.

            Throttle response <3

The throttle response was instantly noticed. My friend and I were giggling like little kids blipping the throttle like a harley rider just to feel it throw our heads back. Only downside of this true CAI is that it is VERY close to inside wall of that front bumper, I'm certain it makes contact when I'm driving it hard

            Very very very nice !

This kit is nice , unlike the Matel pipe, this kit will suck all the air in to your engine with out the heat , you better off paying a little more and get this kit , it's a JLT after all, so quality is not an issue, I feel the power , I had it install with OEM throttle body , and it just scream power, and not to mention a good fuel mileage , get them if you want that OEM look as well

            JLT CAI

I recently purchased the JLT next generation cold air intake. I was a little concerned at first, as the box it came in was pretty beat up. When I opened it, everything was in perfect shape!! Installation was a breeze, the only issue I had was trying to stretch fit the coupler onto the 78 mm BBK throttle body. I installed during winter, so I put the coupler into the dryer for a couple minutes , otherwise set the coupler in the sun before you start the tear down process. I believe it was made for the factory throttle body. Have clamp and nut driver ready to go, once installed and tightened up, it is an absolutely perfect fit. Noticeable difference in throttle response and HP!! Great product!!

            its ok, but whistles

For me, i found the install awkward. the tube should be in two pieces because attaching the filter is almost impossible. it was REALLY hard. I get a definite whistle that sounds like a loose belt which i wish didn't happen. My exhaust is loud but the whistle is apparent at stop lights

            Great product

It's a great CAI the kinda hard to put everything together since it goes into the front bumper but still easy to get it right, the cupler to the tb was almost to small for a 78mm but you can make it work, other then that Its great!

Put on my 96 GT. looks good if you aren't going for the flashy look. Some would mistake for stock but the massive size makes it look awesome. Can hear it too. Not anymore since loud exhaust tho. :(. Couldn't really tell performance gain

A little pricey, yet worth it..

When I first received the intake, I was very impressed. The quality felt very good and it seemed to be a sturdy, well built part. The installation was a little awkward whenever trying to install it into the panel portion, but it wasn't too difficult. Whenever installed it performs well. The only thing I ever worry about is driving the car near deep puddles. With this style air intake, the air filter could possibly become partially submerged in the water and therefore suck up water into the engine. Other than that, it will take in cold air and allow the engine to breath a little better than before. Whenever I'm listening I can hear a slight whistle of the air intake sucking in air, but it's hard to hear over the roar of my exhausts. The only complaint I have is that it's a little pricey. Although the price is worth it because you're buying a very high quality product. Thanks AM, you've provided another happy customer with another quality product.
