Review & Install Video
Modern Billet's Black Retro Style 5-Speed Shift Knob we've got here today is gonna be a good option for any '79 through '04 owners out there looking to replace the worn out factory shift knob, get away from that boring old look, and get into something that's a little bit more classic and retro with its eight ball styling and original '60s tourney logo. Now install time, even if we can call it that here, guys, is gonna call for an incredibly easy one outta three wrenches on our difficulty meter here, about a five minute job. I'll show you how comin' up soon.
Shift knobs are great ways for owners to put a little bit more personality into their Mustang, as the stock one is just a little bit on the plain side. They're fairly inexpensive and are often overlooked parts that make a world of difference inside, along with just feeling that much better when you're rowin' through the gears. So why bother swapping? Well, no matter how well your car's been kept over the years, your factory knob might be comin' apart, might have some signs of wear and tear, or maybe just looking to change things up. So rather than hunt for a new old stock knob, or try to source one through your dealer and pay the price, why not get into something that's gonna feel different, but more importantly gonna look the part?
This shift knob has a great execution to it, and put simply, guys, it just looks right at home in the Mustang, so if you're after a retro throwback look in a shift knob, and you want a quick to install part, you're in the right place. This isn't a basic knob with a sticker on it that'll peel off in an hour. This is manufactured from a solid gloss black resin compound, it's got a diameter of about two and a quarter inches, and it feels perfect between shifts. Now I like this a lot because it just feel more natural compared to the factory shift knob, which I always felt was just a little bit irregular looking and feeling, but that's just my personal opinion. Now additionally the-five speed shift pattern is engraved, and it's not painted on or it's a sticker. It's got the indentation or groove that you can actually feel, as well as having that pony logo which can be found on both sides. Now a great thing about this is that it was designed to be used with the stock arm, but if you're looking to throw this onto something else, just keep in the back of your head that it's a 12 by 1.75 pattern.
But in terms of the price in here, guys, expect to be spending just around 50 bucks to get this onto your car. And if black's not your thing, not to worry, we've got a wide variety of colors and finishes back on the website, so make sure to check 'em out.
But switching gears to the installation here, you're looking at a no-brainer, no-frills 1 outta 3 wrenches on our difficulty meter here, maybe less than 5 minutes, probably closer to 30 seconds, because it's honestly a matter of removing your factory shift knob by turning it counterclockwise, put the new one on, and you're good to go.
So that'll wrap up my quick review and breakdown on Modern Billet's Retro Style 5-Speed Shift Knob with the running pony logo in black, fitting the 1979 through '04 Mustang, excluding the '03 and '04 Cobra, that can be found right here at americanmuscle.com.
