Hey, guys, Stephanie with AmericanMuscle.com here with the Modern Billet Retro Style 6-Speed Shift Knob for 2011 to 2014 GT and V6 Mustangs. The rally stripe shift knob is a nice shift knob for the MT82 equipped S197s that are looking for a nice round type of shift knob to make a statement with. This obviously isn't a plain shift knob and it's gonna stand out for sure in the interior. A lot of people take advantage of the individualism that a stock shift knob can bring to the interior of a car, and while minor, this shift knob is one of the connecting pieces between the car and the driver so it needs to be comfortable. Now this particular shift knob is black, with a running pony on both sides here that actually has the color of stripes. But there are a few slightly different styles of this particular shift knob. They're all gonna have the six-speed shift pattern, of course, and the running pony on both sides, but there's also a white and chrome version of this as well if this one doesn't suit your taste. While they're all styled differently, they're all inlaid engravings. And the engravings have been polished smooth, which is nice because then you don't have to worry about fading. So there are a ton of different types of material to choose from when you're looking for a shift knob, and material and finish are definitely something to consider because different types of materials have a different type of feel. And you also have to consider how the material will react to temperature changes like the heat of summertime or the cool of wintertime. This group of shift knobs are all made from a resin compound for strength and durability, and they're not as sensitive to heat or cold as other materials. The only outlier is the chrome option since that one is billet aluminum and not resin. The shift knobs also have a one and three-fourths diameter so they're a smaller shift knob. As far as price you can expect to spend right about $50 for one of these. The chrome option does cost a little bit more since it's not a resin compound but billet aluminum instead. There are a handful of different shift knob options that are available on the site if this one isn't doing it for you, and there are different colors, materials, and price points. So the install here is really pretty easy. The new knob will come with a retainer for the shift boot so you don't have to worry about that. If we want to get technical here, the shift knob is very easy to access. So you access your shift knob and remove it. The factory shift knob just comes off easily by using that normal righty, tighty, lefty, loosey rule. You'll want to install your retainer first, so thread that on there until it's touching the shift boot, and then it's just a matter of taking your shift knob and threading it down into place until it gets tight. Now it's probably not going to be sitting straight, so what I would do is turn it backwards about and eighth of a turn. Thread the retainer upwards and then turn the retainer end knob until they're tight. The retainer will act as a jam nut here so the knob won't move, but you can always Loctite it if you want to. Overall this is a one wrench install on our scale here and should take just about five minutes to complete. Wrapping things up here, the Modern Billet Retro Style Shift Knob is a classic cue ball style shift knob with a six-speed shift pattern for the MT82 equipped Mustang. There are a few different designs, they're made from a resin compound, and they're very easy to install. You can check these out more online along with all of the other shift knob options. And for all things Mustang, keep it right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

      30 Days of Use

As far as a shift knob goes, it has a nice feel and does a good job. However after 30 days of use and roughly 200 miles of shifting, the black paint inside the number 6 is starting to wear off. This is something I would expect after years of use but it happened for me after only 1 month. One other thing: Take a look at some of the uploaded pictures. The running pony emblem looks good on the driver's side of the knob but on the passenger's side the pony is running backwards. Really? What's up with that?

      Awesome Looking Part!

I purchased the Modern Billet 6-speed shift knob, I love the way it looks and feels rather than the stock knob, the only thing I recommend you look out for before buying Is whether or not you live in a cold area, it is metal so It can be cold to the touch early in the morning but other wise its just amazing.

      Fits and looks nice

I had a problem with the product after I got it. Seems like the knob was right but the retainer that was with the package was wrong. I contacted American Muscle immediately via the helpful online chat. They were nice to talk to and sent me a replacement retainer straight away. The knob looks great!

freezing in the cold, and hot in the heat

This shift knob looks gorgeous, and has a very high quality build. However in freezing or hot temperatures the knob gets very uncomfortable to touch. it can also get slippery when trying to bang gears. But overall it matches the interior beautifully and is worth the cost!

Review from Modern Billet Retro 6-Speed Shift Knob w/ Tri-Bar Logo - Chrome (11-14 GT, V6)

      Retro shift knob

Makes the interior of your car look really cool. It makes shifting easier compared to the leather shift knob that comes from factory. It does takes some getting used to because it feels like your shifting with a metal ball so it gets kinda hot in summer and cool in the winter but nothing too harsh. 5/5 Better shifts and cooler look worth the money imo.

      First addition to my Mustang

I just purchased a 2012 Mustang GT. The first order of business was getting rid of the stock shifter. I love everything about this shift knob - I even like it’s coldness on the am drive. The satin finish is a nice touch.

Review from Modern Billet Retro 6-Speed Shift Knob w/ Tri-Bar Logo - Chrome (11-14 GT, V6)

      Love It!!!

Really debated which Shift Knob to get, but wow I am very impressed with the Polished Chrome look. The logo's on the side are very well done! The chrome matches with the trim in the interior and it feels very solid and well built. Feel awesome holding cold steel while shifting. Highly Recommend!

Awesome look and fixed a shifter rattle

I have a Hurst shifter along with the blowfish racing bracket and experienced a rattling noise under heavy acceleration between 3k rpm and 4500 rpm. Tried everything....the fact the billet knob has recessed threading and not an insert and there is no jam nut cleared up the rattle! Highly recommend even if don't have rattle issue as the knob is awesome looking.

      Hot Cold

The aluminum gets really hot (can't hold it) in the summer, and really cold in the winter. Keep an oven mitt in your car. Looks cool though.

      Not worth it...

Not worth it, the weight is not good for a short shifter and the black paint rubs off of the knobs 1st through 6th gear markings.

      Perfect!

Upon purchasing my Mustang, the stock knob was loose because the brass insert was pulling out of the resin knob itself. So I decided to upgrade to something that looked better! Matched the aluminum interior panels perfectly and feels great in the hand. Made the interior look a lot classier with one small purchase! I do have to say that on some of these really sunny, hot Georgia days, that this knob gets REALLY hot. But that's to be expected of Aluminum in direct sun...its not the product's fault. So I can't take away a star for that, because its still great looking! I just put a sock over it :D
