- How to Install Modern Billet Retro 6-Speed Shift Knob w/ Tri-Bar Logo - Satin on your Mustang
Hey, guys, Stephanie with AmericanMuscle.com here with the Modern Billet Retro Style 6-Speed Shift Knob for 2011 to 2014 GT and V6 Mustangs. The rally stripe shift knob is a nice shift knob for the MT82 equipped S197s that are looking for a nice round type of shift knob to make a statement with. This obviously isn't a plain shift knob and it's gonna stand out for sure in the interior. A lot of people take advantage of the individualism that a stock shift knob can bring to the interior of a car, and while minor, this shift knob is one of the connecting pieces between the car and the driver so it needs to be comfortable. Now this particular shift knob is black, with a running pony on both sides here that actually has the color of stripes. But there are a few slightly different styles of this particular shift knob. They're all gonna have the six-speed shift pattern, of course, and the running pony on both sides, but there's also a white and chrome version of this as well if this one doesn't suit your taste. While they're all styled differently, they're all inlaid engravings. And the engravings have been polished smooth, which is nice because then you don't have to worry about fading. So there are a ton of different types of material to choose from when you're looking for a shift knob, and material and finish are definitely something to consider because different types of materials have a different type of feel. And you also have to consider how the material will react to temperature changes like the heat of summertime or the cool of wintertime. This group of shift knobs are all made from a resin compound for strength and durability, and they're not as sensitive to heat or cold as other materials. The only outlier is the chrome option since that one is billet aluminum and not resin. The shift knobs also have a one and three-fourths diameter so they're a smaller shift knob. As far as price you can expect to spend right about $50 for one of these. The chrome option does cost a little bit more since it's not a resin compound but billet aluminum instead. There are a handful of different shift knob options that are available on the site if this one isn't doing it for you, and there are different colors, materials, and price points. So the install here is really pretty easy. The new knob will come with a retainer for the shift boot so you don't have to worry about that. If we want to get technical here, the shift knob is very easy to access. So you access your shift knob and remove it. The factory shift knob just comes off easily by using that normal righty, tighty, lefty, loosey rule. You'll want to install your retainer first, so thread that on there until it's touching the shift boot, and then it's just a matter of taking your shift knob and threading it down into place until it gets tight. Now it's probably not going to be sitting straight, so what I would do is turn it backwards about and eighth of a turn. Thread the retainer upwards and then turn the retainer end knob until they're tight. The retainer will act as a jam nut here so the knob won't move, but you can always Loctite it if you want to. Overall this is a one wrench install on our scale here and should take just about five minutes to complete. Wrapping things up here, the Modern Billet Retro Style Shift Knob is a classic cue ball style shift knob with a six-speed shift pattern for the MT82 equipped Mustang. There are a few different designs, they're made from a resin compound, and they're very easy to install. You can check these out more online along with all of the other shift knob options. And for all things Mustang, keep it right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Love the size and feel. Great look out of the box. Nice heavy piece feels good to throw into gear. I really like this product, but there are a couple drawbacks. 1) It's metal. So cover it with a cloth if you are parking in the sun on a hot day, or else a skin graft will be needed. 2) The paint has started to come off from the logo, not a big deal, I like the monochromatic look, just thought the paint should have lasted longer. 3) It's a bit difficult to get everything to line up perfectly on the threads, but that just may be my OCD. Overall I am happy with it!Helpful (0)

Nice shifter knob....a few scratches....
Solid satin finish knob. Easy to install and looks and feels great. Lots of weight to it and comfortable in your hand. No real issues with heat retention when the top is down either. The only negative is that it had a few scratches/nicks on it that ultimately lined up facing away from your view. They nicks were obvious and should ave been picked up by the AM shipping team. Since they are not visible when installed, I didn’t bother exchanging the item. Overall, I highly recommend this knob and it was good value for the money, If not for the nicks, I would have rated it 5 stars,Helpful (0)

Literally a 30 second install. The feel and look of the ball is so good. Actual metal and the silver satin finish stands out in the car. Very nice especially since I got it when it was on sale. Only negative is that since it is actual metal, itll get hot during the summer. But it isn't too bad to be honest for the great look and feel.Helpful (0)
