Hey guys, Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, here with my quick review of the MMD bolt on hood strut kit, available in your choice of either black or chrome, fitting your 2015 and newer Mustang. So the bolt on kit from MMD should appeal to just about every S550 owner out there for the simple reason of cleaning up the engine bay by removing that factory hood prop. Now it's a simple product that serves a purpose and does so on the cheap, guys, as the black option's coming in under $100. The chrome option's going to be slightly more, but both options are currently the most affordable hood strut option on the site here at AM.So why would you want to ditch that factory prop rod in the first place? Well, like I just talked about, guys, it does make for a much more clean appearance under the hood. So if you're big into the show scene, this would make a great addition to your ride. But even if you're not, even if you're just a casual enthusiast, occasional drag racer, or if you just like wrenching in the first place, the hood strut kit from MMD will make life a lot easier. As far as the construction goes, well, again, as you can see, there's really not a whole lot to talk about here, guys, a couple of stamped steel brackets and the hood struts themselves, making for a pretty simple package overall. Color-wise, here's what you're going to be looking at. Again, the matte black powder coat, going to offer more of that OE look, it's going to cost you a little less when compared to the chrome or nickel-plated option, going to offer a little bit more flash, cost you a little bit more in the process. Now it is worth pointing out here, guys, that you can use the MMD kit with both your factory and after-market hoods, but just use caution when using them on lighter hoods, as these hood struts are pretty powerful and it might come up on you a little quicker than before. As the name suggests, this is a bolt on hood strut kit, meaning there's no drilling or permanent modification needed whatsoever. So, as a result, an easy one out of three wrenches on my difficulty meter. A socket set and about an hour's worth of your time is really all you're going to need here. I will say it wouldn't be a bad idea to have an extra set of hands on hand before getting started as you do have to unbolt one side of the hood at a time to get this thing installed, but nevertheless, it still can be done on your own if need be.All right, so I think we all can agree that Ford really did drop the ball by not installing these things on the newer Mustangs in the factory. With that said, the MMD option here will be an affordable solution to your prop rod problem, and you can grab your set here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Great concept, fair product, very poor instructions. Took myself, son, (2) grandsons (2) hours to install, disassemble, and reassemble, then another hour to locate and drill new holes for wiring and ww hose and hour to realign hood. We are not mechanics but have restored 4 cars, this should be a 30-45 min job for 2 people. Recommend one of the more expensive units like the ford performance or RoushHelpful (0)

Do not allow hood to close properly
Struts are easy to install, work great, BUT they definitely do not fit the 2015 GT Premium. When the hood is closed it does not sit flush with the fenders. It actually sits about 1/4” ABOVE the fenders. Looks terrible. This is my second attempt so they are going right back for a refund.Helpful (0)

I bolted these on without any issues. It drastically reduced my hood flutter on my 2017 mustang which was an added bonus!Helpful (0)

Great quality and a great price
Make sure to mark your hood at the top, bottom and sides before loosing any bolts. It will make alignment so much easier after you add the struts.Helpful (0)

Great quality for the price!
Easy install with two people, works perfectly, just make sure to keep a hand on the hood and not let it bounce once lifted, the shocks are strong.Helpful (0)

While putting retrainer clip back on strut I dropped it deep into fender well .Where can I. Get a new clip for this # kit item 389145. Thanks William
We apologize for the inconvenience you are experiencing. Modern Muscle Design does not have any clips available separately, however, these clips are very common at most hardware stores and are fairly inexpensive. If you continue to have difficulties, please feel free to contact us via phone or email, and we will do our best to assist you.
I currently have an MMD hood scoop on my factory GT hood, it makes the good quite a bit heavier than stock. Are the hood struts strong enough to hold the hood open with the added weight of the hood scoop?
The MMD Bolt On Hood Strut Kit is capable of supporting the weight of the stock hood and the MMD Hood scoop.
I have a Cervini Stalker hood on my 2015 Mustang, will these fit my hood ?
These hood struts were tested to fit only the original position of the factory hood and support the weight of the factory hood. Installing these hood struts on a different aftermarket hood such as the Cervini Stalker hood has not yet been confirmed at this point in time.
G'day, I read on the MMD chrome unit, that it doesn't fit RH drive. Do you know why it wouldn't work on a RH drive vehicle?
The design of the RHD models sold in Europe and the rest of the world has slightly different mounting points for everything under the hood due to the steering components being on the opposite side. Unfortunately, due to this, the MMD Bolt On Hood Strut Kit would not be good fits for those cars.
The Holiday '18 American Muscle gift guide says this will fit an '18 GT. Your website says it won't. Which is correct?
Unfortunately this kit will not fit a 2018-2019 Mustang GT.
The MMD Bolt on Hood Struts are tested to fit the original position of the factory hood and support the weight. Applying these hood struts on a different aftermarket hood can run in to issues with the mounting positions as well as the weight.
I went though the same process when installing the MMD Bolt On Hood Strut Kit on my 2013 Mustang. Unfortunately this is the most difficult part of the installation. I usually recommend keeping all the bolts slightly loose and positioning the hood exactly where it needs to be and carefully lifting it just enough to tighten down the rest of the bolts.
MMD does not offer a warranty for their products.
Specs differ between US and European models that do not allow proper fitment.
Occasionally flipping the orientation of the brackets for the struts can do the trick, however if you continue to have fitment issues please contact our customer service department so they can assist you properly.
If, during the install of the MMD Bolt On Hood Strut Kit, one of the bolts isn't tightening, we recommend checking the threads in both the hole and on the bolt to ensure no thread damage has occurred. Bolt length should not be effected by the brackets.
Unfortunately, we do not have the strut clips available stand alone from this kit here as of this time.
These hood struts would not be a guaranteed fit on a 1951 Chevrolet skyline.
