A Life of Abuse. The distributor drive gear is nothing to leave untouched when rebuilding that classic 5.0. Its relationship with the camshafts that have gone through that engine over the years is sure to accumulate war scars — the kind of scars you don't want chewing up that fresh, new cam. It's a simple component, but it's the security measure that keeps you from unexpected headaches down the road.

Keep that Fire On Time. The distributor drive gear has a simple function. Its job is to keep the distributor in time with the camshaft. While the connection between the two is essentially locked in once the distributor is involved, you certainly don't want a junk joint. Again, it can cause irreversible damage to the cam, but it can also create deviations in the firing sequence that just might destroy the consistency that's necessary for optimal performance.

Protection From Mishaps. This particular piece of gear comes from MSD. That alone is security enough because of MSD's extensive history of helping countless hotrodders maximize the performance of their ignition systems.
