How to install a Performance Automatic Street/Strip 4R70W Transmission on your 1997-2004 Mustang

1) Before installation, make sure the new transmission is the correct model for your vehicle. Check the overall length, wiring harness connector color (white or black) and tail housing markings V or no "w" located in front of the speedometer hole. If you are not sure, call Performance Automatic at 301-963-8078 or visit www.performanceautomatic.com
2) Make sure the neutral safety switch, speed sensor and bulkhead connector is clean and in good shape. It is always advisable to replace the neutral safety switch and speed sensor at this time. Make sure you fully insert the main wiring harness to the bulkhead connector. It should click into place.
* If the Overdrive (0/D) light was flashing before installation, the code must be read, cleared & corrected. If the 0/D light starts to flash upon starling the vehicle with the new transmission, it is either the wrong unit or a connector is not hooked up.

1. Fluid capacity will run from 11-13 quarts depending on converter and pan,
2. This transmission is computer controlled and must be an exact replacement for your car or it wil/ not work properly. Call Performance Automatic if you are not sure,
3. All electrical connections must be clean and free of any moisture or fluids.
4. If your previous transmission has a set fault code in the computer, this must be cleared or this transmission will not work correctly. Codes can be cleared by any competent general repair shop.
