How To Install Prothane Front Sway Bar End Links on Your 1979-1993 Mustang

Installation Time

1 hours

Tools Required
  • Ratchet
  • 14mm Socket
  • 14mm Wrench
  • 9/16 inch Socket
  • Vise Grips
  • Floor Jack
  • (2) Jack Stands
  • Socket for Your Lug Nuts
  • I happen to have 6 spline lugs so the 6 spline lug tool was needed

Removal Procedure:

Step 1: Using a floor jack lift the front end of the car until the front tires are off the ground.

Step 2: Place jack stands under the sub frame and lower the front end until the jack stands are supporting the weight of the car.

Step 3: Remove the lug nuts and pull both front wheels off the hub.

Step 4: With the 9/16 socket remove the top nut on the old end link.

Step 5: After the nut is removed pull the bushing off the stud and repeat for the other side.

Step 6: With both nuts and bushings removed off the end link stud lift the sway bar up and off of the stud.

Step 7: Take a pair of vise grips and clamp it on the end link and use the 9/16 socket to remove the last nut underneath the control. Repeat for both sides.

Installation Procedure:

Step 1: Take your new end link bolt and slide one washer and bushing on.

Step 2: Feed the new end link up through the hole from under the control arm.

Step 3: Next slide another bushing on the new end link bolt followed by a washer, the spacer sleeve, another washer, and another bushing.

Step 4: Lift the sway bar onto the new end link bolt and repeat for other side.

Step 5: Slide another bushing followed by a washer and nut onto the new end link bolt. Thread the nut onto the bolt as far as possible by hand. Repeat for both sides.

Step 6: Take the floor jack, slide it under the control arm and jack it up until it starts to lift the car from the jack stands.

Step 7: Using a 14mm wrench hold the end link bolt head under the control arm, with another 14mm socket tighten the end link nut until it starts to compress the bushings. Repeat step 6 and 7 for both sides.

Step 8: Put the front wheels back onto the hub and torque the lug nuts to 100ft lbs

Step 9: take the floor jack and lift the front of the car to remove the jack stands then lower back to the ground.
